  Items sent / Outbox folders are likely corrupt.  Move all messages in the folder sent to another user created the folder items.  Then close OE and delete the file sent items.dbx and outbox.dbx (hidden - see here for background: www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx).  OE will then create new ones.  In the long term, you might be better save things and then clicking file | Identities and establishing a new identity.  This will give you a base of fresh messages and you can add your accounts, and then use the file | Import | Messages to import from the corrupt identity.
