How can I get rid of a pop-up again warning "your CODEC is obsolete?

Hello

1. when exactly you get this error message?

2. don't you make changes to the computer until the problem occurred?

3. have you installed any third-party codec on your computer? If so, try to update the code.

If you get this error message when starting your computer then I would you put your computer in a clean boot state, and check to see if the same problem happens.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.

Follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

(a) click on start toreduce this top that i, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.

(b) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

(c) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart.

Hope this information is useful.

  • How can I get rid of a pop-up - found Sttray.Exe-entry point

When I start my computer, I get the following pop up: Sttray.Exe entry point not found. The procedure entry point locate string could not be located in the dynamic link library stlang.dll. Please how can I get rid of this pop up, and what it means? Thank you. PS my computer is a Dell Inspiron 9400, and I run Windows XP.

    Hi Lewisday,

I do not think it is a virus problem or infection - this is a notice of failed to start, not a type of infection of popup.  I think you have a problem with loading the Sigmatel Audio driver.  Go to Device Manager and check to see if it shows problems with the driver.  Go to control panel / sound and make sure you can configure everything you should be able to do it - if it is not charging I expect you have some type of audio issue.

Here is the info on sttray.exe: http://www.what-is-exe.com/filenames/sttray-exe.html.

I also have the chance to have a Dell 9400/E1705 laptop and this applies to the Sigmatel Audio driver.  You should check your Dell Service tag number, but will probably end up here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=NN9X1&FileId=2940571307&productCode=inspiron-9400&urlProductCode=False.

It runs at startup for me.  It seems that you are having problems with the driver.  I recommend that you download and update the driver on the system and restart and who may well solve your problem.  You would therefore, by using Device Manager.

Without it, you can have problems with your sound (maybe not completely - but maybe in terms of getting the best quality).  I've never tried without it and I have mine set to update for Vista now.

If you do not want to see what happens if you don't just run this application at startup (which will remove the popup as well) and since it is more likely is not already running anyway and yet you don't mention sound problems (maybe you do not just use anything but computers audio base that maybe does not need - I'm not sure) , you can go to start / run and type msconfig.exe, and then enter.  Go to the faucet of startup and uncheck the box next to Sigmatel or sttray.exe, save the changes and reboot.  I bet that the notice has disappeared-, but did you notice changes to your audio files?  If this is not the case, then perhaps you can live without it if the above has not resolved things.

In any event it is not a virus, removing startup thing will remove the popup and update the driver may solve the problem and allow the feature to stay (if you notice or care).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • How can I get rid of a pop-up blocking my emails

Whenever I try to open my email, I get a tree ready advertising which I can't get rid of.
How can I get rid of him.

It is possible that it is a new feature of your site by email.

Another possibility is a bad add-on. Here's my method hunt and cleaning of unwanted modules. I know it seems long, but it's really not that bad.

    (A) open the Control Panel, uninstall a program. After the loading of the list, click on the column heading "installed on" to group infections, I mean additions by date. This can help the undisclosed items bundle smoker who snuck out with some software, you have agreed to install. Beware of everything that you don't recognize / remember, since malware often uses sounding names important or innocent to discourage you remove. Out as much garbage as possible here.

B open Firefox page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
    • in the Windows "Run" dialog box, type or paste
      firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click on Plugins. Set essential and unrecognized plugins 'never enable '.

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, in case of doubt, disable (or delete, if possible) not recognized and unwanted extensions. Remember that all extensions are optional, none come with Firefox.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

    Any improvement?

    If you have extra time:

    (C) you can search the rest of problems with scanning/cleaning tools listed in our technical support article: Troubleshooting Firefox problems caused by malware. These scanners on request are free and take a long time to run. If they end quickly, especially if they require the payment you have a serious infection. I suggest the specialty forums listed in the article in this case.

  • How can I get rid of the pop ups telling me to update my Media Player

    Hello

I can't seem to open all the links on Facebook or other websites without getting a pop up saying, «I need to update my HD media player» How can I stop this from happening? I tried to uninstall MacKeeper, Niceplayer and MacPlayer without success. I guess there are still a few hidden files somewhere on my computer that I have no idea how to get rid of. I also googled one forum mac how to get rid of the problem and within 5 seconds, I am immediately directed to a site that tells me I have to update my player. Help!

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac has been developed by Thomas Reed, who is an expert of confidence on these forums.

    https://www.Malwarebytes.org/antimalware/Mac/

It does not work in the background - when you launch it, it will detect and offer to delete the malicious files, then exit. You can run it again in the future if you suspect another infection.

  • How can I get rid of adds popping up whenever I click?

I think my macbook air has got a virus, all in a few clicks that a new tab opens and a pop ad on the one I've been, always on Paris or Web sites to get rid of the virus. This happened 6 months and I tried everything. Ive tried locking pop up adds and various ways. This occurred when I downloaded some kind of Downloader application, I've finally managed to get rid of it but do not add it brought with it. Clear all my Mac would help? I hope someone can help because it makes me so frustrated

You do not have a virus, because there is no virus for OS X.  You have malware/adware is installed on your computer when you have installed some "Downloader application" was that you'd previously put on your hard drive.  You have two options to remove it-

    • Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware for Mac.  It was developed by an employee trust and respected here.  It's a simple, non - intrusive program that removes malware known/adware from your hard drive.  That's all that.  It does nothing and is not take anything else.
    • Follow the instructions provided in this Apple support article to manually remove-> http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203987

In the future, do not download anything from the Mac App Store or from the Web site and absolutely no matter what download a torrent or a comprehensive download site.  Often, installers are bundled with malware, and you end up right where you are now.

  • How can I get rid of this pop up?

Another user has posted a similar empty dialogue in this thread: installation, firefox, I find myself with a sign and a checkbox control that blocks everything. Could you try from the Safe Mode to see if your question may also be caused by a Firefox extension?

Does not work if Firefox: Hold down the SHIFT key when launching Firefox.

If Firefox is running and you can access the menu: Either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

and give Firefox the OK to restart.

Two scenarios: A small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

  • How can I get rid of a pop-up telling me I have TO update Firefox when I don't want?

I get this update of Firefox saying me that I NEED to update to the latest version. I don't want to because it will affect my Norton Antivirus program. But the pop-up does not allow me an option to choose out of it and keeps coming back every time.

Norton has updated their toolbar for Firefox 31.0 since the eve of its release. Unlike with most of the extensions, the application like Norton toolbars must be updated for each new major release of Firefox .exe.

    http://community.Norton.com/T5/product-update-announcements/Norton-toolbar-update-2014-7-6/BA-p/1163834
    http://community.Norton.com/T5/product-update-announcements/Firefox-31-support-for-Norton-toolbar/BA-p/1155994

However, if you use the version of Comcast supplied then the update is still delayed. http://community.Norton.com/T5/Norton-toolbar-Norton-identity/Firefox-31-and-the-Comcast-Norton-toolbar/TD-p/1159906

Either way, updates of Firefox have no impact on your application separated from Norton that the message simply indicates the version of the Norton toolbar extension you have is not compatible.

  • How can I get rid of a pop-up that always tells me to upgrade my storage space?

I have a windows laptop with two ipad3 computer on my icloud. These pop ups reappear whenever I use my iPad. I would really appreciate the help. Thank you.

I guess that's storage iCloud. Looks like you want to back up more than 5 GB and iCloud asking you to buy more space so that you can back up your data. If this is the case, you have 2 options, stop the backup on iCloud or start excluding a few things from your iCloud backup, until your backup data are less 5 GB. Of course, another option is buying more storage iCloud.
