  I have a desktop Mac, a laptop and an iPhone. I'm confused on the e-mail options.

  I use Apple Mail on my desktop and portable Macs. The accounts aren't POP, IMAP. This means that all of my incoming emails and outgoing is stored locally on each machine, what I want.  My iPhone does not have my main email account because there is too much traffic spam.

  Inconveniently run POP because I have to manually check email on both machines. If I had to run IMAP, I have the same email on both machines, without having to manually check email on each. That would be nice, and I could change in IMAP - except - it is essential for me to have my locally stored email so I don't have to depend on net access look at historical E-mail. My understanding of IMAP is that e-mail is stored on the server, and if I have no access to this server, my historical email is not available. Is not acceptable.

  A second problem is that my iPhone has no memory to keep my archive full electronics. It is not a problem on the desktop, but the phone can't. So if I set up my email on my iPhone, I have to delete email from time to time - that would eliminate these emails on the server, and so my desktop and laptop machines as well. It would be great if my phone could display the same spam email filtered on my Mac, but not to touch these files when I delete something on the phone.

  Is there a solution that would allow me to use the IMAP protocol for e-mail independent device viewing with local storage of all my email (sent and received) on my desktop and laptop computers, allowing me to remove the need on my phone without touching the email on Macs? Or I have trouble understanding the differences between POP and IMAP accounts? Whatever it is, I would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

  Mail keeps a local copy of all of your email. Other e-mail clients can or cannot do the same thing, and can offer the ability to store only the headers locally.

  The iPhone does not store all e-mail as its storage space is limited.

  (a) open Windows Explorer by clicking on the 'my computer' icon in the menu 'Start'. If you want to add a folder to the Quick Launch bar, navigate to the folder.

  (b) double click C: local drive to open it. Double-click the "programs" folder

  (c) double-click the folder that contains the program you want to add. Click and drag the program to the Quick Launch bar. To add a folder, click and drag the folder instead.

  The problem is that Windows 7 comes with no e-mail program installed.  You can use Windows Mail, but you will need to hack (see http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic137494.html).  Pushes Microsoft Windows Live Mail as the alternative, but many can't find any favourable and it is full of annoying bugs, then you might want to explore other possibilities of e-mail.  Outlook is another alternative.  Regardless of the e-mail client, you need go to tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Advanced (or the equivalent in another program) and set it to keep a copy of messages on the server on both computers so that each can receive the same messages and then on one set to delete messages after a number of days (so they don't accumulate).
