How can I install a fresh copy of Windows XP by using my own product key?

I have an old computer with windows xp home edition preinstaled, but do not have the disc to reinstall, I can download the new copy of windows and use my number on this computer?

original title: Windows Xp home edition download

first of all, it is unlikely that you can download a new copy of windows xp, because it is old and not sold more.

and if you can download a new copy of xp from an old site, then would be his "own product key which is coded in the installation files that are required to activate the operating system after the installation...

If you think you might be able to switch on the product keys, then this is not possible because the fresh product key is required to activate the new copy of the os and you would have to buy this cool o.s. to get its product key and activate the operating system.

and if you go to buy the new copy and the new product key, and then try to replace the new product with the old key is not necessary or logical...

Perhaps, because your computer comes pre-installed with xp, you could look for its brand and model number on the internet and see if the factory he built has suggestions on again store the operating system on it.

try searching for 'factory restore' or "getting recovery discs" for you system.

  • Can not install the new copy of windows xp home edition

A friend has built a computer for me and my friend it works for me.  Everything goes ok, then it stops working because the friend has installed a pirated copy of Windows XP Professional on this topic.  OK, I'm a little angry, but I can cope.  I had bought a new copy, never been used before, Windows XP Home Edition a couple of years to my old copy that I ended up not using.  When this happened, I thought it would be great, I could install that.  So, I turn on my new computer and let it boot.  When it comes to the screen, saying that I don't have an authentic copy of Windows installed, I open my CD drive, and then press the button so he can go back into the computer.  I have no mouse or keyboard control so I can't select all and nothing happens after that the disk will inside.  Nothing, I can't even hear anything running.   I would try to solve this problem without having to take Office Depot where they charge me $ 99 for "try" to fix it.  I don't have a job, so fix me it is my only option.  Any help out there in the cyberland?  Thanks for any help.  I'm on my dad's computer if you're wondering how I'm even able to send this way.  Laughing out loud

I do not understand what you're doing or why nothing seems to happen, but the fundamental question that you have, it's that you cannot "upgrade" from XP Pro to XP Home.

Assuming you can still start Windows (even if you get the notice that it is not authentic), copy all your data on some external support (external drive, USB flash, CD, DVD) and then perform a new installation of XP Home.  Once Windows is installed, you need to restore these data and you will need to re - install applications (programs) that you have installed (for example, Microsoft Office), so you'll need to find the installation for the applications media.

Because it is a home-built computer, you must obtain all the necessary drivers on the web sites of various hardware manufacturers.  Most likely you will need are motherboard (chip), display (video), (audio), network (including wireless and modem) and any device (e.g., printers).

Use the computer that you use to post here in order to download drivers and save them to a flash drive or burn them on a CD.

I guess that your boyfriend (ex?) didn't give you all the documents with the computer (e.g., the motherboard manual or manuals for other equipment he installed).  If you can enter in your current Windows installation, click Start > run > msinfo32 > OK.  Click on the 'Components' category and look at the different devices to determine their models and manufacturers.  Motherboard information (you need to get the drivers of chip set) is not indicated in msinfo32.  Use BelArc Advisor (free)

Don't forget - when installing from a Windows XP CD, you'll probably not the current service pack (service pack 3) and you will certainly not have current security patches.  You too have an antivirus.  Get instant access to Windows Update (do not go to other websites) and download critical updates.  Probably, this will take time and may require several reboots and go back to Windows Update.  When all updates have been installed, install an antivirus.

If you are willing to pay for an anti-virus, eSet NOD antivirus (not the "suite").  Otherwise, I suggest Microsoft Security Essentials or Avira AntiVir Personal.  At some point after that things are settled down, you should also get the free versions of MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware.  You don't need the "pro version" that work all the time; You must only update and run these scanners on a periodic basis just to be sure that you have not picked up a malware that is slipped beyond your anti-virus.

    Hello

You can as long that the product key is not a computer that had an operating system preinstalled Vista installed on it by using this product key (Dell, HP, etc.), or has licensed OEM System Builders, you try to move from another computer.

You never tell where you got this product key of.

  • How can I get a clean copy of windows vista Home premium. I've never had a disc, but I have a registration number?

My computer would not start. I never received a boot disk. I used my friends boot drive and now windows think my computer is a Dell. The registration key for my computer does not work. How do you get a clean copy, I am owner of Vista already?

    Hello

as you have discovered the recovery discs are brand and the specific model

Here are the different ways to reinstall vista:

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

  • Can I install my same copy of windows on my new computer build?

So I just build a new custom computer. I have a new 64 GB drive hard solid state that I wish I had ONLY my operating system. I also have my old hard drive in my new build with all my old files and the operating system on it (I also cloned it on an another HARD drive so that if something was wrong, I have a backup of all my files). But anyway, my question is if there is a way to ONLY my my my old HDD SSD new operating system without wear on all programs (because with all the other programs, its not going to adapt). I realize that there is a small chance that it is possible to do that, so my other option would be to just do a fresh install on my SSD with my windows of my old computer disk. I called Microsoft technical support regarding my problem and they said, is that the only way to a successful installation is to buy a new product key, because otherwise it will not work. They said that the only way to get around the purchase of a new key is to uninstall windows on the old disk and then you will be able to use the key on the new SSD. The only problem with this is I have no way to boot the old disk, as this would require completely rebuild me my old computer which I just can't do (I already tried to start on the old drive in the new computer). Anyway, if you guys know anyway which would solve all my problems, that would be great, because I can't afford to buy a new windows product key.

    Thank you

Support for Microsoft people are correct. The only option is to not use or attempt to start the drive on the new computer (of course you can use it as a data drive) this will allow you to use at least the license on the SSD.

  • Have two Copies of Windows XP Home Edition on the computer. How can I remove the original copy of Windows?

Recently, I had to reinstall the operating system on my computer because I became aware of virus and I couldn't afford to take it to a professional, and I thought I could fix it myself. I decided to go ahead, but I discovered when I booted my computer, it shows the first copy of Windows as well as the new copy, which, in fact, turns out to be better than the original. Now, I would like to know how to remove the first one because it takes a lot of memory space and it for lack of place the proformance with the second copy. If it's too complicated and you think I should take it to someone who knows better than me, then so be it. If it is not too much to ask, I would like to have an answer soon enough. Thank you, Christine

  • How can I move a good copy of Windows XP Edition family of my G drive to a bad copy of Windows XP Pro onDrive C (startup disk) without destroying all the data and programs I have on these two discs?

I have a computer that I needed an extra hard drive with a lot more memory that I had on this subject.  I had Windows XP Home Edition on it and was very satisfied with the system.  I came back from the computer repair store and my old hard drive was drive G, with all the old data still on it and a (used) and more C drive was in the unit and it's now my boot drive and I not paid no attention to it, he soiled by Windows XP Professional with service pack two.  I really did not notice the difference and I started to put several other new programs that I need on this computer and I went to work.  After over a long period, I now had a notice that it wasn't a valid Windows product.  I wondered of course that with Microsoft, because I had all my documents, my records, (now lost) and the key that was on the side of my computer.

As I continued to find out what was going on, while doing a search for information on the drives, I found the original Windows program, I had, now my question is, how can I move on my C drive, while MY ORIGINAL Windows XP Home Edition causes my computer to start?  Most of the programs that I run is not compatible with Windows 7 or Vista even, and it cost me a fortune to buy all of these programs again.

    What can I do?

    Hello

A full Windows license or upgrade, is for ONE Installation only.

When you have 32/64-bit, you must choose 32-bit or 64-bit, not use both.

And there is no way to upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit; It must be done with a clean install.
