  There is no uninstall for Mac Reader program. You can directly delete the application from the Applications folder, which is just trash/Applications/Adobe Reader.app. Also, this can cause a break in the features of Safari to read PDF files using Adobe Reader plugin. To resolve this problem, go into/Library/Internet Plug - Ins / and remove AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin

  Assuming you have Reader 9.3.4 already installed on your machine, you can try the following to make demand opening of default PDF Reader 9.3.4:

  1. right click on any PDF on your system, and then click the option 'Open with' from the context menu that appears. In case you get another submenu, click on program selected in this menu. (Where you don't see 'Open with' option, then hold down the SHIFT key and right-click on the file)

  2. click on the Browse button in the dialog box that appears, select Reader 9. Make sure you check the box "always use the selected program to open this type of file"

  3. click on OK.

  This will make Adobe Reader 9 as the default viewer for all PDF files on your system.

  I am running windows 7 and can't download adobe reader. The download stops about 75% of the way in which the process, and a message states that Windows install does not update of managed advertised products.   I am answering my own question. I learned that if you right-click while trying to open a PDF file, you will be asked which application you want to use to open the file. If you click read the information, instead of choosing an application, you get this great information box that gives you the ability to set Adobe Reader in your default application for PDF files. It lets you change all the pdf files, you already have the Adobe files. Yay.
