  From your description of a term still image, you seem to be looking at the setting still Image default duration in Edit Menu/preferences/general.

  What is the Word document you want to make a copy, or the PDF? In both cases, you can choose file > save as (in the appropriate application) and give the file a new name. For example, if you have a file named "HappyTimes.docx", you can choose file > save as and name the file "HappyTimes2.docx." Then you will have two Word files, and you can change one and leaving the others intact.

  If you want to "text frames", where the text can be changed in the view of the Film Strip, you must insert placeholders on the master slide. You probably insert text captions.
