  • How can I get Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus security?

After another year of Norton 360, I got the stupid games of Symantec, tired of the ot, uninstalled and downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials.  I restarted my computer (Dell Dimension 8200 running Windows XP Pro 2002).  After that, I ran services.msc impatiently as my program of service to show that my antivirus security worked and I had nothing to fear.  Imgine my grief when my service center reported that my computer was always subject to viruses, worms, Trojan horses and other forms of malware.  I thought, perhaps, I had reduced the activity of some vital download too quickly and, therefore, have prevented a good download.  So I tried again, this time with a lot more patience...   This time, I received a message that the program was already on my computer, asking if I wanted to replace it with the new download.  Because the first time I acted in a hurry, I replied that I tried the second download try replacing the Lerna, this time with a lot more patience.  There is no apparent change that showed the Security Center: no protection against the virus.  How can I get Microsoft Security Essentials to act as my antivirus program and my Security Center to recognize it as such?

    Hi David,

Glad to hear thiings are better. Do not forget to chek that MSE will automatically update the definitions that every 24-48 hours and regular tests are carried out. Also suggest that you go to settings > default Actions and change to quarantine all. don't forget to 'Save changes'. This is recommended to avoid problems such as potentially unwanted programs and the removal of the odd false positive.

You are definitely not alone in your skepticism about Norton and other paid for antimalware solutions.

Feel free to mark my initial response as response and/or useful.

    Have a day without malware.

    Kind regards

  • How can I prevent Microsoft to install malicious software Compattelrunner.exe on my computer?

This is the fourth time I found this malware running on my computer after deleting updates previous three officials.

So I wrote all Windows products ugly recommendations in every venue possible (e.g. and filed a complaint with the FTC. The bottom line is, in fact, that it is forbidden to install unwanted software on someone's computer, and Microsoft ignores the permission for the Automatic Updates settings. Please tell me if I need to act on this, or if the problem will stop.

Here's the review I posted just for you on Amazon.

Based on my experience with Windows 7.

Installs malware (compattelrunner.exe, an executable file that can be supported more than 70% of your CPU) while not taking into account your update settings ("download updates, but don't ask me which install"). Reinstall this malware after you delete this review was motivated by find it on my computer for the fourth time after that I removed it three times before.
"Malware (for"malicious software") is a program or file that is harmful to a user of the computer." which includes Compattelrunner.exe because of its effect on the performance of the computer, even though it obviously not to damage files, hold the computer for ransom and so on.

There is no problem with the descriptions of KB, but rather to what Windows Update said you; in other words, go to the KB page to check every update (unless it says security or Windows Defender). They actually sent a Windows Defender or other update the next day, I installed another update.

  • How can I prevent the Foxfire loading automatically when I turn on my computer which runs on Windows Vista?

Foxfire load automatically when that I start my computer after all the other essential programs. I would like to know how to disable the start menu link that allows the program to load when the computer first starts because the Foxfire browser is not necessary when I first start the computer. Furthermore, when I first start my computer, it is not necessarily connected to the internet and it's just a little embarrassing to see foxfire charge when it is not necessary. In addition, it takes up valuable memory in RAM when it's running, so slow down my machine. Please, someone show me how to keep this program to start when I start my computer. Moreover, my system is Windows Vista and Foxfire does not appear in the startup folder. Only by going to clicking on Foxfire default program page it does not show that Foxfire has a hidden defect that makes it to launch at startup of the computer. What I'm looking for must not see when I start my computer.

Firefox has no opportunity installation to run at startup, you can check the different methods that Windows uses to launch programs. For details see

  • Removal of Microsoft Security Essentials

How can I remove Microsoft Security Essentials of programs on my XP computer?  It is in conflict with my anti-virus.

    Hello HCG19,

Microsoft Security Essential is "also" an anti virus application. It is not wise to run two applications on the same machine antivirus anti. The result is, as you've found, a conflict.

MSE can be removed by opening the control panel and then clicking Add/Remove Programs icon. Scroll to the element MSE and click it to start the uninstallation.
