  • How can I stop Windows Messenger from starting automatically

I have never used Windows Messenger.  I recently bought / implement a system refurbished with XP Home - after about a month of use, the Herald began popping up automatically whenever I start the machine, or when I open Outlook Express (and immediately requires a screen name access code (whenever it starts, even if I gave him once to satisfy) (, so I have two things to cancel).

As I say, he began to do this by himself without conscious action on my part, a few weeks after the introduction of the machine. I had an older XP machine for 6 years and never seen it happen.

Two questions: 1) is this a normal behavior to require a name to screen EACH time it starts? I would have thought that it would save one associated with the connection.

    (2) how can I do to stop the automatic aperture? I don't necessarily want to kill-I can actually try to use it someday. I just that it quietly hide in the system tray, as it has always done before.

To stop the Messenger to start with Windows:

    (1) right-click on the Windows Messenger icon in the system tray.
    2) click Open.
    (3) in Windows Messenger, click on tools, then click Options.
    4) click the Preferences tab.
    (5) in the preferences, uncheck the "run Windows Messenger when Windows starts" and "Allow Windows Messenger to run in the background", and then click Ok.

To prevent Outlook Express from loading Messenger

  • How can I prevent windows 7 from auto-detect my monitors?

I have a multi-screen with two computers and two monitors Setup. My main screen is shared between 2 computers on a KVM switch and my secondary display is connected directly to my win7 box. When I switch the KVM away from the area of win7, windows detects that there is more connected to my main screen and flies all my windows open to the secondary display, hide the Windows I wanted to see. How to disable this behavior?

I've seen messages on the deactivation of TMM in vista, but TMM does not appear in the Task Scheduler in windows 7.

What makes this even worse, is that when I flip the switch KVM back (so my first is now connected to win7 box once again), about 10% of the time windows does not automatically detect the screen and I have to open the screen resolution settings and click on the button find.

  • start-up: how to stop my yahoo messenger and windows messenger from starting when signing

want to know how to stop my yahoo messenger and windows messenger from starting when signing.

It is always better to stop programs from starting with Windows from the programs themselves, so look in their choices first. There may be an entry in your start > programs > startup folder which can simply be removed. If a program does not offer a way to control the start-up of its preferences, use msconfig to clear the check box next to its name, apply and OK on. Also take a look in your programs > startup folder to see if there is an entry for the application it.

Start Orb > Search box > type: msconfig and when it appears in the results area above, right-click and choose 'run as administrator '.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue. Then see what is on the Startup tab. You don't need to restart immediately, but next time you do, you will get a dialog box saying that you have used the utility. Usually, it will be blocked by Windows Defender, and you need to allow it to run so that you can then check the box that says in effect, "don't mind to this subject again".

Important - do not use the System Configuration utility to stop the process. Use Services and stop all services, unless you really, really know what you're doing.

If I have correctly start a backup from the console and leave the room, when I return from the computer is in standby.  When I wake up the computer, the backup will fail eventually.

I know that it is possible for an application to inhibit sleep system; iTunes seems to do that when I'm streaming internet radio.  I looked at the controls associated with the backup and I don't see anything wrong.

  • Where can I get a list and a description of the programs that load when I turn on my computer?

I recently bought a Pavilion p7-1010 PC with operating system Windows 7. On my previous HP, I got a list of programs that started when I turned on my computer and those to whom I could remove to start which were really not essential to have running.

Is there a place I can find a similar list for this computer and possibly a recommendation for those who I can disable.

    Thank you

rmh56 wrote: thank you for your response Hanspuppa, I am interested in more information on the programs that appear when I start up so that I can determine which are needed and which are not. I want to stop at the start of all programs that are not essential to the functioning of my computer. On my last computer someone gave me a list or a link to a list of programs that allowed me to learn more about the various programs, which were important. Thank you, rmh

Hello rmh56, what would be a little difficult to determine, given that every computer comes with different programs.

I have no way of knowing how to determine which programs can be prevented from leaving on a particular computer.

You can try unchecking each of those entries one at a time and restart the system, or log and see if the programs perform normally, but this could be a very long process.

Unless you are certain that a program is not necessary, I would leave checked.

I just checked my startup programs and I shows that I have 15 startup programs.

This doesn't seem to affect my system performance at all. I check all out them.

  • How can I prevent Windows 8.1 update message?

I use a computer of Windows 8 for the most part of the year. I got the message to update for windows 8.1 download free most of the time. Mid-July, I downloaded it, which resulted in the corruption of my computer systems. I have since registered with recovery media, but still Windows 8.1 update messages. Starting from 04/09/12, have a new message asking me to update it, and specifically her option "remind me later" gives me 2 days according to the message. I have no intend to download Windows 8.1, afraid of the risk of it happening again. I own a Windows 8.1 all-in-one pc, it is not necessary. What must I do to prevent these messages from appearing? I repeat, I did not intend to download Windows 8.1 on my computer Windows 8.

    You can't, sorry.

I'm sorry you've had experience trying to install, but I recommend trying again.  That's all I can offer.
