How can I replace Windows XP software?

Windows XP software

I have a laptop model Gateway MX 6027 who had a hard disk crash. I got the replacement of the hard disk and install. The problem is that the gateway backup requires information on the hard disk of re - install. Now, I don't have a valid number of software and product key but no software and gateway and Microsoft want money even to talk to me. All suggestions will be appreciated.

Under the terms of its license from Microsoft, gateway was required to provide a mechanism for the restoration of Windows.  Often, large manufacturers like gateway meet this requirement by installing a hidden partition on the hard drive that can be used to restore the computer to the State that it was when it left the factory.

Unfortunately, if the disk fails, you can not use this hidden partition.

Gateway may (its for a long time I finally bought a Gateway computer) you have the opportunity to create a set of recovery CD.  I guess that no option has been provided... or you ignored.

At this point, your only recourse is to persuade bridge to provide recovery media.  They may or may not do it (they can claim that they have more XP available media since he stopped on sale if long ago) and if they do, it may or may not be free.

Because you have a computer built by an OEM, Microsoft won't help you.  See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246 (although if the front door tells you that there no XP media, maybe you can convince some Microsoft customer service representative friendly to deal with your situation as if "you bought the software from a System Builder who is no longer in business".

If your original hard drive is at all operational (the term "hard drive crash" is often used incorrectly), you may be able to use the cloning software to get the content of the disk set on your new or drive unless the partition to restore on your new drive.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Try this:

    Toshiba Recovery:

To access the recovery partition Toshiba, powering the laptop. Press 0 (zero) key and turn on the laptop. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo, which is where you should start to type the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the device emits a sound signal or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should light up * MODE of RECOVERY of HARD drive * for a fraction of a second, and then load the Toshiba Recovery program directly from the hard drive.

Note that this clears all data and reload all the software factory default. Be sure to back up all your important personal data beforehand!

You can also make recovery disk/s since the Partition of recovery in case of hard drive failure or System Crash, when you are in service again.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • How can I reinstall windows after replacing the hard drive? Laptop did not come with a disc.

My internal hard drive went bad in my laptop, easy to replace and relatively inexpensive. However, the laptop came not with the windows disk. So, how can I reinstall windows once I replaced the hard drive?

Basically, you have two choices. You can communicate with the person who made the computer and see if they can provide either a set of Windows Vista restore disks (I would assume) or an installation for Windows Vista (probably OEM) DVD. If the second choice, determine if you will need to download device drivers or software packages from their web site. OR, you can purchase the operating system of your choice, retail. The wisdom is that, if this is your choice, you see if you will need the device drivers and get those of the web site of the manufacturer.

Once you have the disks, install in the usual way.

    Hi MarkS_02127,

Since you've reinstalled windows, you will need to re - install applications once again, you will be lucky (if you format the drive) data on your computer. You remember that location, it was in my documents? If yes it just open C:\Documents and settings and locate your old username, you will find your old desktop, Favorites and Documents.

  • How can I reinstall windows 7 after replacing the hard drive?

How can I reinstall windows 7 after replacing the hard drive? do I have to call microsoft or I can retrieve it somehow to the old hard drive?

Well, that certainly puts a different point of view on this subject.

There are data recovery services that can recover data from disks that have suffered from various types of failures. However, they are quite expensive. Unless the data is particularly useful, it is generally not useful.

If your Windows 7 is an OEM version, installed on the computer when you bought it, the manufacturer could have a recovery disk on sale. If it was a retail copy and you always have the appropriate product/serial number, you can get a DVD of their team of parts replacement.

Go to the Epson website and find the Epson perfection 1250 for
your version of Windows. I don't know if it exists or not, but if
for this, you will find it here.

Whenever you switch to a new version of Windows, you must install
drivers (software that interfaces between the hardware and)
Windows) for printers, scanners, video cards, etc., which have been
written for this new version of Windows.  And also note that you need
different determinants for a 32-bit version of Windows and a 64-bit
    Version.

It is the manufacturer of the hardware to write and
available to download these drivers. Especially if your hardware is
older, it is quite possible that the manufacturer has decided that it is not
a value of his time and effort to develop drivers for the hardware that it is
    selling more.
Check with the manufacturer or on their web site to see if a pilot
There are. If it, download and install it. If it isn't, you're out
lucky. Also consult their websites in other countries, if there is
None; Sometimes you can find the driver you need in this way.

In the future, before making such an upgrade, make sure you have
done the appropriate research to find out what drivers do not exist,
and so what equipment you need to replace if you upgrade.

    Hello Karol

If your laptop has a built in web cam located on the LCD screen this software will be displayed below the menu START > all programs. Everything is described in the document s user manuals.

When you start your laptop in the taskbar is placed small symbol. If you hover the mouse over this symbol you see Camera Assistant Software dialog. To run this software, you can also move the mouse pointer left display (somewhere in the middle of the left side of the LCD) and small window will be opened. There, you can start the software.

Please let me know whether your A200 built in webcam or not.
