How can I set up to dual boot Windows 7 and XP on 2 separate drives?

I have a new hard drive and a new DVD Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit upgrade. I want to keep my old hard drive with the ability to work under XP. Can I just install my new drive in any open slot, and then start from my DVD? I'll be able to start on the player of my choice? How does with the marking of the readers? And it defaults to Windows 7 whenever I start my computer? How I will be when you start the disk with XP?

Hi ohyanet:

Since you are using a version of 'Upgrade' of Win7 it will assume the license of the prior XP operating system and the Microsoft EULA says that you can no longer use your XP operating system on any computer.  To dual boot with XP'd you need to buy a version "full" of Win7, not an upgrade.  When you install Win7 it will make a copy of XP called Windows.old in your drive (C :) and you can copy the files from it to your new O.S. of Win7, but you will need to re - install all the applications from the original media.)

    Hello Tevans95,

    You cannot install two different operating systems on two different disks. For a dual-boot environment, you must install both XP and Vista on the same drive with different partitions.

    In addition, you must install Windows XP first and then Windows Vista.

    You can check the items below which will give you information on Dual boot.

    Install multiple operating systems (multiboot)

    Set up a dual-boot system

    Change the default operating system for startup (multiboot)

    There is no software that can help you to install XP and Vista on different drives.

    Not longer than the partitioning of the HARD drive and install XP - actually quite a bit more fast I should think and gives you the ability to move from one OS to the other without having to reboot the machine. • How much better the partition of the HARD drive for dual boot: Windows 8 and Linux

    Hello

    I am a newbie in Windows 8, linux, Partition...

    I want to use my new laptop with windows 8 pre-installed on the following:

    Create a Dual Boot Windows 8 / Ubuntu
    Create on my drive C (single disk on my laptop):

    * a partition for the system
    * one for Windows 8
    * one for data and
    least for Ubuntu OS

    My goal is:

    -to install VmWare on Windows 8 and run Splat Checkpoint with virtual machines to make the FCTC laboratories.

    to install GNS3 on Ubuntu for CCNP Labs but with GNS3 to access the files in the data partition

    I have a Toshiba Satellite with 750 GB and 8 GB of RAM.

    According to you, what is the best size for my scores?
    Is there a better way to partition my C drive on my goal?

    Best regards

    I don't know if this is the right section, sorry for that. Feel free to move this thread in the appropriate section *.

    I think the size of partitions depends of the you want to use and install other software.
    So if you have a lot of software which runs under the Windows System I recommend to choose a larger size to win 8 partition.

    However, given that you have a 750 GB HARD drive, you could take 200GB for Win 8, 100 GB to Linux and the rest of the HARD drive size, that you can use for data.

    recovery media provided by Toshiba to create a dual boot Windows 7/Windows XP rather than go back to XP?

    Hi dualboot.

    As far as I know it of not possible to create a dual boot with XP and Windows 7 Toshiba Recovery disk. The problem is that the recovery disk erases the entire HARD disk, so there is no option to create a dual boot with another operating system.

    If you want XP too you need to a normal XP installation disk Microsoft or you use virtualization of Windows 7 XP mode, if some n t applications run on Windows 7. ;)

  • Dual boot Windows Vista and Windows 8

    Hello world

    I'm having the following problem: I had Windows 7 as primary OS (C drive) and then installed Windows 8 (on drive D) that is of dual boot. Everything was working fine until I decided to remove Windows 7 from the drive C. I have formatted the drive using Acronis Disk Director 11. After the reboot, the computer was not bootable. I had a reistallation DVD of Vista and installed. Now, I have Windows Vista on C and Windows 8 for D drive that is not bootable. My question is how to get rid of Windows 8 without having my computer starts plu?

    Thanks in advance,

    Peter

    Hello

    try to start your computer in safe mode on Vista and remove windows 8 in d ' training of formatting it and check if the problem is resolved.

    Start your computer in safe mode

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    If you still have the sam e problem then see below

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    See you soon.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If the above does not work, try to make a Bootable ERD to do a Startup Repair:
    As is the case with most computers/laptops these days, they do not come with good Vista disc to repair only the recovery disks.
    As your grave in the category above, download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.
    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.
    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

    Download the Vista software from the link above.

    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1 in the boot order.

    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

    can vista and windows be installed on the same computer at the same time if I uninstall windows 7 will run my vista back system

    http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_vista_and_windows_7_vista_installed_first.htm

    Your question is confusing.

    If you double start, delete thye Partition of Windows 7, then probably having to do a Vista startup repair.

    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

  • After dual boot Windows 7 and Windows 8, get error 0xC004E003 and Windows are not authentic

    Hi, can someone help me with this problem?

    I bought a new laptop without an operating system installed. Then, I asked for a computer shop install Windows 7. In the properties of the computer system, he showed his & OEM Windows 7 has been activated. I could install Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Live Essentials, which indicates that Windows is authentic. But after that I installed Windows 8 dual-boot with Windows 7, Windows 7 not genuine. Office Tournai black screen and it says: "Windows is not genuine". I tried to download Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and installed. Windows transformed in real dos, but they gave me 30 days to activate Windows 7. The computer shop didn't give me a product key. I tried to find a product key with the product key finder applications. After you enter the product key, it said: "The Software Licensing Service reported that license assessment has failed." - error 0xC004E003.
    How should I do?

    You use an Acer OEM slp key on a HP computer.that will not work.

    You will need to purchase an authentic ultimate license and change your key or return to windows, your computer comes with that.
    OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates

  • How can I move a good copy of Windows XP Edition family of my G drive to a bad copy of Windows XP Pro onDrive C (startup disk) without destroying all the data and programs I have on these two discs?

    I have a computer that I needed an extra hard drive with a lot more memory that I had on this subject.  I had Windows XP Home Edition on it and was very satisfied with the system.  I came back from the computer repair store and my old hard drive was drive G, with all the old data still on it and a (used) and more C drive was in the unit and it's now my boot drive and I not paid no attention to it, he soiled by Windows XP Professional with service pack two.  I really did not notice the difference and I started to put several other new programs that I need on this computer and I went to work.  After over a long period, I now had a notice that it wasn't a valid Windows product.  I wondered of course that with Microsoft, because I had all my documents, my records, (now lost) and the key that was on the side of my computer.

    As I continued to find out what was going on, while doing a search for information on the drives, I found the original Windows program, I had, now my question is, how can I move on my C drive, while MY ORIGINAL Windows XP Home Edition causes my computer to start?  Most of the programs that I run is not compatible with Windows 7 or Vista even, and it cost me a fortune to buy all of these programs again.

    What can I do?

    Thank you!
