How can I stop yahoo for re-creation as my default home page?

I am operating OSX 10.8.5 and Firefox 26

Recently (without installing new software or extensions) my layout in firefox by default to yahoo homepage. Yahoo has shown also as one of my search engines without having installed me. I removed it and everything was going well for a while. But now instead of show my windows and tabs from last time, it shows just yahoo instead.

It is very annoying, because I keep losing all my pinned tabs. None of the above solution are useful and the problem persists even in safe mode.

This is the troubleshooting info of "Firefox about: support.

There are chances that you have installed a customized version of Firefox optimized for Yahoo? See http://downloads.yahoo.com/firefox/

Yahoo-able versions of Firefox are mentioned in the article remove a toolbar which took in charge your Firefox or the home page search. If you have a (available for Windows and Mac), you need to replace the 'official' version of Mozilla Firefox.

In all cases, you could trash Firefox (remove it from your folder/Applications/dock desktop) and then reinstall Mozilla Firefox by downloading a new copy of mozilla.org - see How to download and install Firefox on Mac. Your Firefox user profile is stored in a separate location - see the profiles article - so your bookmarks, passwords and other user data expected to be retained.

You can also try a Reset Firefox - see Firefox Refresh - reset the parameters and modules

  • How can I stop yahoo as my default home page?

Over the weekend, Yahoo has somehow my default homepage. When I go to preferences and change to my desired home page, it only works for the next launch - then it returns to Yahoo. So I uninstalled Firefox and download a new copy. Same thing, so, apparently, it's a moderation that you have made to your browser.

I don't like this. If you don't tell me how definitively remove Yahoo as my default page and let me decide DEFINITIVELY what's my default homepage, I will stop using Firefox anyway, even if so far it my browser favorite.

I'm on an iMac with OS X 10.6.8

It is a side effect of the extension of SearchMe, which apparently comes with a popular torrent software.

You can disable this extension then restart Firefox and choose your homepage favorite again. You can do it here:

Tools menu > Modules > in the left column, click on Extensions

It would also be possible to follow this extension on your computer and remove it physically, but as a Windows user, I don't know the ins and outs of how to do this on a Mac.

  • How can I stop autologin for email

When I click on send, it is automatically connected and I don't want to.

There are two possible explanations for this:

    (1) the website set a cookie last time you connected and that you open a session on the site.

If you disconnect, the site should invalidate your session and can also delete the cookie so that you do not find you or someone else on your account.

    (2) Firefox may have registered your username and filled automatically.

To check for it and remove it, you can use the security of the page Options panel:

"3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Options > Security

Click the "saved passwords" button to check if Firefox has saved the connection for the site.

  • How can I stop: 1) scrolling ads/info that remains on the page, even while I scroll down to the bottom. (2) new side tabs that appear at the end of the articles to tease the next articles?

I have two questions. In the past months, some sites there are ads or facebook/twitter links that scroll and remain on the same page that I scroll down. I find distracting moving images and want to stop them. How? I saw another development that I get close to the end of an article, two tabs appear on the left and right of the screen who tease article previous and next. These tabs appear often on the top of the text of the article I'm currently reading, making it difficult to finish the current article. How to stop these tabs?

    for 1)
Try using an extension "ad block", as a first step.
Click on > > AMO search for "ad block"

    I use this one - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

    for 2)
You can try to use this extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/umatrix/ - too complicated for me, I rarely see these stupid teases 'previous' and 'next' and my screen is wide enough so that they do not cover any text I read.
