How can I transfer my library of Photos to an external HD?
Hello
To free up space on my internal hard drive (macbook air), I want to move my entire library of Photos (about 85 GB) on a hard disk external. When I try to drag the library of Photos from my pictures folder, it says that I can't file in the external hard drive. When I copy, he says that I can not stick it in my external hard drive. The hard drive has a capacity of 1 TB and is empty. Any suggestions would be welcome!
PS - once resolved, I also want to know if there are complications around the pictures if I have my main one on an external hard drive, but still add pictures in Photos on my intern.
Thank you
Annette
The external disk should be in Mac OS extended (journaled) format, a fast FireWire connection, love at first sight or wired USB-related and not used as a backup volume Time Machine - it is best to check ignore permissions in info for the reader window - then just drag the photo library it intact as a single entity , the launch of PHotos while pressing the option key, and then select the new location - this will become the library by default until you change

Put the library on an external drive, where you can set the indicator "Ignore ownership on this volume" for the reader.
Use a disk with the file system 'Mac OS (journaled)' extended. Open the Panel "file > read the information" for this drive.
In the section "Permissions & sharing" Panel Info unlock the padlock and turn the meter of the property to ignore.

How can I fix a library of Photos apparently broken?
I'm trying to help my son getting his Photos mess cleaned up. His Photos Show dates without photos in them. Also, I can't delete photos in Photos.app. When I sync the iPhone with iTunes/Photos, apparently photos get synchronized and imported are deleted, but actually when I look in Photos.app, photos aren't especially there. On his phone, there is a big Photostream My. It does use icloud photo library.
I suspect that the Photos.app library is broken. Can I repair installation somehow without lose the photos he doesn't lose?
to start the backup photo library and press the command and option keys while launching Photos and repair the database - if this didn't help not we need details and a clear description of the issue, including the version of the operating system and pictures and its iCloud on each device settings

Your photos are not 'in' photo gallery... it accesses just
the files where they are stored on your hard drive.Open Photo Gallery Windows and right click on one of the
Photos and the Menu... Choose... 'Open file location '...
This is the folder that the photos are actually archived. The only Photos archived by library are the original

How can I transfer my favorite photos library on my MacBook to another library on an external hard drive without losing metadata and keywords?
If you want to keep the metadata, you must export the images as the current versions, edited. File > export > export... images. Then you can turn on the indicator "Tile, keys, descriptions words":
Choose a high quality for JPEG, not to lose quality. To the RAWs export them under like TIFF picture.
You can export the RAWs as "file > export > export original unmodified" and keep it RAW, but which will not include the metadata. And the Photos will allow you to export an XMP file with metadata, but when I tested, it did not apply the metadata when you import the RAW files again. So the best compromise for the RAW format would be to export as TIFF, another lossless format.

Hi NordundSued,
If you want to store your photo library on an external drive, the process is as simple as (after checking that the photo is not open) copy the existing photo library on the external hard drive, and then at the opening of the Photos with the option key and choosing this library. Once you have verified that the library works correctly from the external hard drive, you can go ahead and delete the original if you want to free up space.
By default, your system library is stored in the folder of images on your Mac, but you can move it to another location on your Mac, or store it on an external storage device. To use iCloud services, however, the external storage device must be formatted using the format Mac OS extended (journaled), also known as HFS +.
Switch between any libraries
If photo is open, choose Photos > Photos of quit smoking.
Hold down the Option key and double click on the Photos icon in the Applications folder (or click on the pictures of the Dock icon) to open the pictures.
In the select Library dialog box, do one of the following:
Click the library that you want to use, then click on choose a library.
If the library you want does not appear in the select Library dialog box, click other library, navigate to the location of the library, select it, then click on choose a library.
Designate a library as the library of the system
You can switch to another library and designate as the photo library of the system. For more information on the considerations to keep in mind when it designates another picture of system library, see Overview of the system of the library.
To designate the current library as the library of the system:
Choose Photos > Preferences, click general, and then click on use as Photo library system.
Important: If you switch to another library, Photos automatically turns off all iCloud services. To use iCloud photo library, iCloud, sharing photos and my photo stream with a library of pictures newly designated system, you must activate them again in the Photos of iCloud preferences pane. When you turn on iCloud library after designation of a new library system, photos stored in iCloud are merged with those of the Photo library new system. Once the new Photo system library content is downloaded to iCloud, libraries cannot be split, so it's a good idea to look carefully before modifying your library system.

This is a typical and very common requirement.
The solution is to store your media library as well as your catalog on an external drive.
You can connect the external drive on both computers alternately. The performance is very good.
One way to make the transfer is to use the backup / restore process:
https://helpx.Adobe.com/Photoshop-elements/KB/backup-restore-move-catalog-Photoshop.html
This is the same process to an external drive or another computer.
Edit:
Make sure that the external drive is recognized by the same drive letter.
