How do I cleaning system files after transfer to the new iMac?

Recently I transferred data from an old iMac (2008 version) to a new iMac (screen Retina 4 k) and know that the old system files, extensions and structure have been transferred.  Is there a software out there program that can scan the system/program files and advise those that is obsolete or are no longer necessary or useful for this new iMac?  It seems that my new iMac is slow, and in addition, there are now transferred extensions system on which I'm sure is that I no longer needed. I went from an iMac 2008 Yosemite running to a 4 K run ElCapitan Retina iMac.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thank you.

This is not a task that you can use the software to accomplish. It is above all a manual effort.

Free space on hard drive

1. see Lion-Lion/mountain/storage of the Mavericks display.

2. you can remove the data from your file except for the folder/Home/Library /.

3. visit The FAQ XLab and read the FAQ on the free space on your hard drive.

4. also see release space on your Mac OS X startup disk.

5 see where my disk space gone?.

6 see the storage view.

You must empty the trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.

You should consider to replace the drive with a larger. Check out OWC of readers, tutorials and boxes tools.

Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are.

Away system files since it is the best way of corrupting your system running. Stick to the deletion of your personal information found in your file.

  • Cannot open my catalog after transfer to the new computer

I use 7 components on the computer that is running Windows XP. At about 5000 photos in my catalogue - all the tag and captioned.

Am in the process of moving to the new computer with Windows 7, 64-bit version. Used original disc to load Elements 7 on the new machine and organizing elements opens OK, but with just a white Notepad - and all tags are missing.

I used Windows Easy Transfer to move all the files and settings to the new machine.

The catalog seems to have been transferred and help items > Information System shows that it is located in the - who he is, according to Windows Explorer.

    C:\ProgrammeData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\My catalog

But I could find no way to do items to connect to that file and open it like "My catalog" on the new machine. Would be catastrophic to see that I have to re tag and caption all of these photos. Probably impossible.

Have tried all the options in the drop down for the catalog file.

Have had different opinions on Elements 7 can be used with Windows 7 64 bit - some say it's OK, others say not. If it is open as it did in XP - just does not detect the catalog.

    Any ideas please?

OK, so you move the catalog.pse7db to the new computer, as well as anything else that seems to be linked to this folder (for example the subfolders).

Put it all on the new computer somewhere (any, any). If your photos are in the exact same on the new computer as they were on the old computer, you are finished. Just double-click on the file catalog.pse7db. If your photos are not in the same EXACT spot on the new computer, they were on the old computer, then use Windows to move them to this location.

    Hello

You can have the creative cloud installed and signed in on two computers as long as you don't use it on one at a time. Download and install as you did on the first computer, sign in to your Adobe account on the Adobe using your Adobe ID website, download the desktop app from clouds, then download the software. Sign on a computer that should not be used: log in and log out of the desktop Adobe Creative Cloud application

You can download the installer for Creative Cloud from here:

  • Acrobat XI Pro serial number invalid after transfer to the new Mac.

I recently got the new MacBook Pro OS X 10.9 and when I started my computer I transferred all my information to my new Mac from my old MacBook (2008 version).

I was glad my Acrobat Pro XI transferred, but he transferred only as a software 'trial' and record-breaking buying my software on my account at Adobe are now gone. I thought that I would be fine because the trial software often reminds me that it is a trial and asks me my serial number. I have my serial number of my previous Acrobat saves and registered this number. When I do, you will see this message,

"This serial number is not valid for Acrobat Pro XI. You can use a valid serial number for Acrobat Pro XI or use this serial number on the appropriate product. »

    What?

Please help, my trial ends soon and I'm running out of options. I can't lose this expensive software!

    Hi alamo of the BNC,

Adobe does not recommend the use of any migration software to transfer the software.

If please remove Acrobat and reinstall it and use the serial number to activate it.

  • Performance issues of Lightroom after updating to the new iMac

I used an iMac 2013 end with 3.5 Ghz i7 and 3 TB Fusion Drive and 32 GB of RAM and had very good performance.

I've recently updated to an iMac of retina with i7 4.0 Ghz and 512 GB SSD and 32 GB of RAM. I also bought an external LaCie Big 1 TB drive which has 1 300 MB/s read/write speeds and put my Lightroom library, photos and ACR cache on this drive.

In view of these changes, I expect an increase in the performance of my previous system. However, I see the opposite. In Lightroom when I apply a preset, I sometimes get a beach ball of rotation for a few seconds before she applies. In Photoshop, using the Google Nik filters, I when I move the sliders effect is not instantaneous as it used to be; Instead, I see chunks of the screen redraw.

All other applications on my system seem to work very well. Photoshop and LR open both faster than they on my previous iMac. But their use seems slower that me perplexed.

    Any ideas?

I guess the beach ball, that you see is the generation of the 1:1 Preview or how long it takes to calculate overall gross instead of a preview of lower res. The display on these new iMacs is so gigantic that the standard preview size is way too small (the max is 2880 pixels long, which is a factor of 2 too small for the retina display). The machine of the retina has 4 x as many pixels as the iMac 27 "older. The difference in speed between 4.0 Ghz and 3.5 GHz is not enough to compensate for this difference in number of pixels that should be calculated from the raw to catch up so you should see a decrease in the speed if you're using Lightroom full screen. Try the Lightroom window about 1/4 of the screen and see if that changes things.

  • Change the location of saved. ITL file after transfer

    Hello

I just finished the rather painful process of migration of my iTunes library from my old PC to a new MacBook Pro.

    In summary:

    1. ITunes media folder. ITL file etc. was in a portable State on a hard drive external. Later transfer to the new Mac, it's still intend to keep the folder iTunes media external hard disk and connect via the USB port because of the size of my library.

    2. After discussion with the Apple today I had to drag the. ITL file on the desktop to open it with iTunes as the external hard drive has locked the file because of a problem in good shape on the external hard drive. Once transferred to the privileges of office has been modified and the file installed. This opens the library that I had saved before transfer to the Mac and when I then entered on the Options tab Advanced preferences and indicated the location of the support on the hard drive folder, iTunes began to organize my files, keeping them on the hard drive where I wanted to.

So far so good, however need to clean things up a bit and I have noticed some problems and I was hoping someone may be able to help?

BC. ITL file is now save on my desktop, and album artwork, iTunes genius media library of the (empty), iTunes folder etc.

Multimedia content is located on the external HARD drive when I want him to stay and it is correctly indicated. I guess it's something to do with the fact that I have loaded the. File ITL of my office through the 'Alt Hold, open iTUnes, select the file".

    B. I want the. ITL file etc to save the standard position on my MAC in the music folder with other files from the library and not be on my desk. The music on the Mac folder already contains an old. ITL file and the files that had been initially tried because of problems of transfer of the library from scratch and I now need to do away with these.

Sorry if it's a bit lengthy but wanted to paint a complete picture.

In summary, what am I therefore seeks to achieve?

    1. the files that are currently save to the desktop. ITL etc. will now save in their suitable location on the MAC, crush the obsolete files that are in the folder music on Mac and are not necessary. I tried to drag these to a new location, however when I boot iTunes again, it creates a new set of files on the desktop.

    2. multimedia content remains on the disk external DRIVE where it is currently pointing, and I guess that no further action is required?

Fortunately no more moves will be necessary during a period of long date, (I hope)

    Appreciate ate your help people

    SImon.

Read all the iTunes files and their standard organization:

On the iTunes library files - https://support.apple.com/HT201610 - does not mention that a complete library of work also includes other files and also files in the iTunes folder.

You can get back in the correct directory, then re - structure start iTunes with the option key method and that it points to the library file in your new organization.  She still needs to use media on the external hard drive. However, this reader concerns me.  If you used with a PC you probably used the disk to NTFS. iTunes will be able to read these files, but will not be able to modify them if you try to change track to a file on that drive information.

How to use transfer windows for xp to xp.  When I plug usb computers are delivered to the top with the same screen and when I try to use the transfer to the new computer, it just said information gathering and sits for hours

    Hello, welcome.

The process is automatic and the maximum transfer rate should be about 20 GB/HR. If the process crashes during that long of a time, it's probably because of something internal rather something you're doing wrong.
For reference purposes, I included this link. It goes into the details of the migration from XP to Vista (and the basic steps you follow). The instructions are for migrating to Vista via the network, but you can easily follow the steps and choose a different option for your specific installation.
For both machines, I recommend you to prepare for the transfer using the following procedure:
    1. click on START > run
2 type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter
    3. go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck all the entries displayed
    4. click on 'Apply' at the bottom right
DO NOT RESTART YOUR COMPUTER AGAIN
    5. click on START > run
    6. Type "cmd" (without the quotes). Right-click on the result at the top of the menu START and select 'run as administrator '.
    7. type chkdsk /r and press enter
8 allow the system to attempt disassembly of the volume
    9. allow the system to plan restarting
    10. restart your computer
11 let checkdisk analyze the file system on your hard drive
    12. Once completed, perform the same steps on the other machine
    13. Once completed, repeat the transfer

    Let us know what happens
    Thank you!
