How downgrade from Vista to Windows XP
Hi, recently buy recon HP pc, works well but has Vista installed. I compose music and found that the thing does not like Midi puts and on-site. I want to downgrade to good old windows XP, as it does not, please what is the process to achieve this? IM no PC illiterate, so please don't advise me to change the registry, etc. Thanks John
If you don't have your own copy of Windows XP that you do not use on another machine, you will need to find someone who will sell you a. This must be a full retail do not copy the recovery disc that distribute computer with preinstalled Windows systems manufacturers. This will be limited to a particular machine. You will also need to go to drivers and downloads from the HP Web site and check if HP provide XP drivers for your model. If they are not, you will have problems of implementation.
I wonder if someone has already tried to downgrade from Windows Vista to Windows XP. I have a Satellite P200-16 b.
I was check in the support Web site and I found most of the pilots it but I think not all.
Please post your comments here.
I used the search option and found many threads on the downgrade from Vista to XP on Satellite P200 PSPB0E
All Toshiba drivers are published on the European driver Toshiba page.
Of course, you won't find additional software and programs like WinDVD, etc. insofar as these software are only a part of the Toshiba recovery image and as I guess are not to free them.
An important note; you need to install XP drivers as mentioned in the installation instructions txt file. This doc is also found on the Toshiba driver page!
Then you should not get any trouble of installation.
Best regards and happy new year 2008 :D
I recently bought the Satellite L355-S7907 and do not like Vista I want to run Windows XP Service Pack 2 on it. Now I tried several methods, first start XP from CD, it loads for a few minutes then I get the blue screen of death, by saying that I should run ' CHKDISK F.
I ran check disk and my my hard drive is fine.
The other method I've tried is partition my hard drive then when Vista is on trying to install XP on the new partition. Vista allows me to install on a partition, because "Windows on your computer is newer than the version on CD.
What should I do here? I don't like Vista and I'd love to have XP working on this laptop.
Any help much appreciated
Downgrade from Vista to XP isn t possible. Therefore, you must make a clean and new Windows XP installation. You wrote that you get a BSOD if you start from XP disc, what code BSOD is it exactly?
I guess you only need drivers SATA to install XP. Have you installed them?
In addition I recommend read the discussions here in the forum about it. You'll have hundreds of them! ;)

* original title - I have Windows XP but when I had another computer it was Windows Vista. Should is it difficult to switch from Windows Vista to Windows XP If Yes, how I do to make it.*
You will need to reformat. Boot from the XP cd (you must change the boot on the CD drive in the BIOS).
This will remove everything in Vista. So, if you decide to reinstall XP, copy / save (you can not copy programs, you will need to reinstall them), what you want first. Because you will not get it back after
I got my * _Satellite A200-1M4_ * from Vista to XP pro.
Do I have to downgrade the Bios too and please help me with the necessary drivers for * key to _FN_.
I would like to add that the Satellite A200 - 1 M 4 belongs to the * PSAE0E * series.
This series needs a BIOS update after installing XP.
The European driver Toshiba page provides a special version of Win XP BIOS.
In addition, you can find the + Installation Instructions on the page of the driver.
This document provides the proper installation order which is very important to get all the drivers and tools work properly.
can you switch from Windows vista to windows xp
Install Windows XP to the usual. To activate it, you will need to use the phone-in method and explain that you use your right of demotion. The person will guide you through the activation process. You may not use the Vista operating system whose key you use for the XP install on any computer.
I suspect it's a typo, but just for clarity: Windows 98 and Windows XP are different operating systems.
I had Satellite Pro A200GE with Windows Vista Business Edition preinstalled in it.
Am not really satisfied with Windows Vista and I would like to downgrade to Windows XP Professional.
I don't have a CD to install Windows XP Professional, but don't know how to install it on a Vista machine.
I tried to boot my Vista laptop on this XP disc but no joy...
Is there another way to install XP on the computer before installing vista?
or I have to buy any disc retailer downgrade?
Any help appreciated
You can install XP on this laptop. As you say you have to boot from the XP CD to install it on the HARD drive.
But maybe your OS doesn't see the HARD internal disk? In this case, you need to install the SATA driver first. The Manager of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager includes the SATA driver. Intel Matrix Storage manager can be downloaded from the Intel Web site.
During the installation of Win XP, it must use the F5 key to include the SATA driver from an external FDD drive (floppy).
If you don t have an external USB FDD then you can use the program called nLite.
For more information, I recommend goggling for nLite software.
Check it out ;)
I bought laptop Toshiba Satellite U400/03 s with pre-installed Vista Business and I want to downgrade to Windows XP Professional. My laptop comes with a professional the product for Windows XP Recovery disk, but I don't know how to use this drive as it did not come with serial number.
Where can I get the serial number? I have to ring Microsoft or Toshiba?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.
AFAIK the downgrade is fairly easy: just boot from the disk of XP downgrade that was shipped with your laptop and follow the instructions on the screen and that s all you have to do! :)
You n t need a serial number, if you install the operating system on a disk from Toshiba. It s already configured.
Join Satellite A300 disc to downgrade to windows XP. However, information for it is almost impossible to follow because it implies that I am a computer Wizard.
I bak up to Vista as asked and then rebooted computer all holding the key F12. Put in the #1 lower upgrade disc and then it confuses me what to do. This machine is brand new and I have no files to backup, but want to use XP because I'm more familiar with this OS.
So can someone guide me through this... as I am in Australia and most of you people are probably asleep or just waking up, please put all the instructions I am about to go to sleep because it gives me a headache. If someone had told me that it was not a simple exercise, I would never had bought the laptop in the first place.
Thanks for any help
Yes, this can be a bit difficult. Here are some easy instructions on how to use XP disks. :)
1. Insert the xp disk into the disk drive.
2 hold down the power button on the computer for 10 seconds to turn it off completely.
3 turn on the computer and start typing on the F12 key. Keep pressing it until it gives you your Start menu. (Don't hold the power button, type only just turn on the machine.)
4. Select CD/DVD using the arrows on your keyboard, and then press ENTER. Should say 'Loading RAM disk image' or something similar.
5. Select Yes on the warning screen (make sure you computer is connected to the main power, no battery).
6. Select following three times.
After that, it will say Partition initialization... This means that the recovery has begun. :)
Hope this helps!
I recently downgraded my Portege R500 of Vista installed at the factory for WinXP.

If anyone can help, please help!
Have you installed the XP drivers all available from the European pilot of Toshiba page?
Please take the look in installation instructions txt file. You will find a list of all the necessary drivers that must be installed. The order of installation is important.
Please install all drivers as mentioned in the installation instructions.
PS: On the page there is also an application of Infineon Trusted Platform Module.
Hello to everyone!
I am the owner of a Satellite A300-17N with windows vista
Can someone tell me if I can downgrade my laptop to use win xp?
In my view, what posed more questions this month. Before you wait here for a verification of the response by Satellite a category and you will find sufficient number of threads with the same question.
I get blue screen after Installation finished.
How do I get help please
What BSOD you get exactly?
Satellite L300, you need SATA drivers to install Windows on a drive of Microsoft because it s equipped to a SATA HDD. The driver you need you can find in the Intel Storage Manager package on the Toshiba site.
If you don t have an external floppy drive you can use nLIte to create your own with these drivers installation disk.
In addition, I can recommend hundreds of discussions on this question here in the forum.
