How have the guest OS disk cleaning disc space come on for the host operating system hard drive?

People,

Hello. I use VM Player 3. The OS is Windows 7. Guset OS is Windows Server 2003.

Because the host OS Windows 7 C drive is nearly full, I need disk cleanup for drive space in Guset OS Windows Server 2003.

Guest OS Windows Server 2003 VM hard drive parameters:

Size current 92.5 GB,

Maximum size of 150 GB.

I use Disk Cleanup tool to clean C:\Document and Settings\Temp\ and temporary Internet Files\ administrator to get 32 GB of disk space. Now my computer in Windows Server 2003:

Used space: 59.2 GB

86.2 GB of free space

145GB total space

But when I check again Windows Server 2003 VM hard drive settings, its current size is 92.5 GB and is not afraid to 59.2 GB after cleaning. Host operating system Windows 7 disc does not come more disk space after cleaning.

My Player VM VM-> settings is not a function of "Shrink" and the program does not "vmware - vdiskmanager.exe" file to run the function of 'shrink '.

My question is:

How to get the approximately 32 GB (92, 5-59, 2 GB) of disk space happen on Windows Server 2003 VM settings and drive hard host operating system Windows 7?

Thank you.

People,

Hello. VMware Tools has tab Shrink to reduce the virtual disk. But the free disk space hard host should be larger that the size of the virtual disk you are reduced to shrink.

The problem is solved by myself. Thank you.

    People,

Hello. I use 3 Player VM and Guest OS Windows Server 2003. The host OS is Windows 7. I need to increase the size of the VM disk, so who can install several systems in the guest OS. If something bad happens during the expansion of the size of the virtual disk, the guest operating system and its Applications will not work. Thus, before expanding the size of the virtual disk, I need to back up the virtual machine hard disk external.

I have check the disk hard host operating system Windows 7, the path is C:\VirtualMachine\WindowsServer2003\... When I get to the top of the virtual machine on the external hard drive, simply select the 'VirtualMachine' folder and save automatically. I have 3 questions as follows:

First of all, if something bad happens during the expansion of the size of the virtual disk, the guest operating system and its Applications do not work. Can I just delete the folder 'VirtualMachine' in the host operating system?

Secondly, the problem of the first question does not affect files in the physical hard disk to host operating system?

Third, if something wrong happens during expand the size of the virtual disk of OS guest, I simply delete the folder 'VirtualMachine' in the host operating system and load the original 'VirtualMachine' from the external hard drive in the host operating system. Yes.

That's right, as long as you have not added and other virtual disks of different folders on the host of the virtual machine, you can probably did not.

After developing the size of the virtual disk, you must also change the size of the partition in the guest operating system.

I'm on a mac. I have 2 different versions of mac operating systems running on 2 different hard disks, because of needs of customers with software compatibility. If I update a cc adobe programs in a single operating system hard drive system, it will affect older versions of programs cc in the other system of operating system hard drive?

If, as you say, they are completely separate installations on separate hard disks, each with there own version of PS for example, there should be no way that they could interfere with each other! I assume you are using a form any of Boot Manager to load a specific version of Mac OS x?

I did something similar at the start in a similar situation with client compatibility and not had a problem with either interfere with others!

However, you share the programs somehow between different OS, so that would be another matter.

  • 10 comments VM Windows will need to be recreated when moving to El Capitan Yosemite in the host operating system?

I have 8 Fusion installed on Yosemite. I have a guest VM Windows 10 and works well. When I install El Capitan, do I have to recreate the Windows 10 VM guest or it should run with El Capitan as the host operating system? Thank you!

    Hello

Upgrade to El Capitan shouldn't matter to your guest operating system, it must continue to operate as is.

However, DO NOT wipe your drive on the update as then it might erase your VM.

So best thing - as always - is to make a backup of your VM - with the virtual machine closed down and merge not running - before the upgrade to El Capitan.

  • Is it possible I can get the virtual computer connectivity after restart to connect to the local network in the host operating system?

    Hi all

For some reason, I have to disable and then enable the LAN connection in the host operating system. If some virtual machines are running during this time, connectivity all VMs for out-of-world are lost, they cannot connect to the host even more (by running the ping command). I tried a few methods to retrieve the connectivity, but all have failed, for example,

    1. reboot the virtual computer

    2. restart VMware Workstation

    3. restart the corresponding system services in the host operating system

The only way I can retrieve all is to restart the host operating system itself.

Yes, is there short any path, I can retrieve the connectivity of these virtual machines?

    Thanks in advance.

Try installing a newer driver.  According to the site, you should be able to find a driver dated 2008 or 2007 (depending on which exact model of NetLink card you have):

1 came out of safe guard 360

Sometimes out of some firewall programs is not enough (they keep still themselves installed in the network of the host stack, even if they are 'closed').  You may need to uninstall to make sure that it is not interfere.  (Search the forums for support for your firewall software see if anyone else is having problems with vmware and 360 safe guard).

  • Will be hardware drivers installed on a guest OS is running even if they do not work on the host operating system?

    Scenario:

    VMware Workstation:

    Windows 7 SP1 64 bit host

Windows XP SP 32 bit comments

A scanner and a printer are available for Windows XP hardware drivers.  No hardware drivers are available for Windows 7.

If the hardware drivers for these devices are installed on the client Windows XP OS will work?

    Thank you.

Welcome to the community of users.

The answer is (as usual), it depends on...

My experience has been the following:

If your printer/scanner is usb based, there is a reasonable chance that it will work.

I have an old HP Scanjet (USB key) and an old Belkin UPS (USB) that both require drivers and software that only work under XP. I have an XP VM I'm running pilots of each device and software in and everything works.

I also have an old LasetJet HP (parallel port) that is not supported directly by Windows 7 and more. For this I used a USB-parallel converter > and in a VM XP, I am able to access and print. A Linux VM also recognizes the printer via the number of series-parallel adapter > and I can print it as well.

In any case, I only install the drivers for the virtual machine, not on the host computer. In fact, I can't install the drivers on the host computer, even if I wanted to, they can not even the installation of Win 7 and including Win 7-64 bit host.

If your hardware requires a custom Board, plugged into the motherboard (such as SCSI controllers) used in early scanners, the chances are pretty good it won't work that desktop doesn't pass through for PCI device (or other).

I had especially good luck with USB devices. (Not all, but most).

You'll probably just to try it and see...

    Good luck.

  • The guest computer in the host operating system networking

    Hello!

    Hi EG302428,

You can try to use the toolkit VI PowerShell as mentioned in this article. Then create a script scheduled using the example shown in this thread. Otherwise, you can also have a look at the VIX API.

    Good luck.

  • RDP of comments to the host operating system

Using VMware server 1 on a box of Windows XP 32 bit, I have a ubuntu vitual current execution machine. I have ssh open via the vitural ubuntu machine since I know how to secure * nix a lot more than I do windows. But sometimes I have to use a program on my XP machine remotely, in which case I need to remote desktop of Ubuntu to Windows hosted OS virtual machine. Whenever I do that, the RDP Protocol to connect, but then freezes, closes and I get the error 'connection reset by peer '.

I googled for answers to this problem, but have only found people trying to rdp between the host and the guest. This isn't what I do.

Are there any changes I have to do to make this work?

It's a normal bridged interface. Thank you.

You connect virtual machine Ubuntu to XP box... the XP box that hosts the same virtual machine Ubuntu?  So then realize that RDP to XP does NOT allow for the interaction of the console.  If the RDP session has control.  But the RDP session is displayed on the virtual machine, which is displayed on the host XP computer.  If you can not RDP to host any virtual machine running on XP host.  (Try RDPing from another physical machine to your XP box and see what is happening on the screen of your XP box.)   Windows Server operating system can be configured to be the Terminal Server farm, which would allow you to RDP to host because you do not take the console.  But not on XP (Vista or Win7.)

So, you'll have to RDP to another physical or virtual computer that is NOT hosted on the area of XP you are trying to connect to.

  • 6 fusion works with El Capitan in the host operating system?

I saw the thread on the Fusion 7 and El Capitan, but I wonder about the Fusion 6 and El Capitan.  I know that El Capitan works as a guest OS with Yosemite as the host and the latest version of Fusion 6 (I'm under the commercial version of El Capitan in a virtual machine on my Yosemite iMac running), but I have not really improved none of my systems to El Capitan again.

    Thank you.

I use 6 merger with AE Capitan. It seems.

  • connection from the host operating system

I'm running a Ubuntu Vmware image as a guest of Windows 7 computer host computer.  Is there a setting where I can connect to the instance of ubuntu from my Windows host? For example, I have a client sql on my desk that I want to be able to access mysql running on ubuntu. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Of course it is possible, it's not essentially different, so when you do the same thing between two physical machines, so act accordingly!

Assuming that you have correctly configured SQL Server and running, then make sure that the firewall on the host and the guest does not block connectivity.

    Kind regards

This means that you do not have sufficient permissions to turn the virtual computer in question, to ensure that the permissions on vCenter is configured correctly, or if you connect directly to the host ESX (i) you have the required permissions.

  • VM converter to create clone of the host operating system

I have a virtual of W2K3 running a small application - I would use the converter to create a copy of this so that I can uninstall the application and use the machine virtual 'plain' to another application.

My thought was to run the converter and move a copy of the virtual machine in the cluster, ESX, starting the virtual machine, change the host name, IP and then join the domain.

Can anyone confirm that this process would be ok? -Will be the Windows SID change when I rejoing the VM to the field.

I should probably just create a couple of 'builds' and get them ready to be cloned if necessary...

    Any comments/help appreciated.

If you have a VC server you could clone a template, and then use sysprep when you deploy the model.

The method you mentioned should be OK, but you can try the newsid (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897418.aspx) app, remember to keep the 'new' isolated network system before changing the SID

If you run hosts connected to the VC server you should really look into the creation of models for the purposes of deployment.
