  I don't think you can convert a picture to a Word document, but you could place the JPEG format in a Word document by using the Insert > object command in Word.

  You should definitely be able to convert PDF files to Word using Acrobat format. What happens when you choose file > save as other > Microsoft Word > Word Document?

  I have a file saved on a USB microsoft word. Today, I tried to open it and a message pops up saying "the file... cannot be opened because there are problems with the content".   WordPad is built into Windows, it cannot be uninstalled.

  Looks like you just need to have the Word set as your default program.

  Default program to open files of Type with the value

  1. right click on the file, select "open with...". »

  2. click on the program that you want (if not in the menu, you will need to search for it).

  3. make sure the "always use the selected program" is checked on the bottom of the window.

  4. click on OK.

  This type of file should always be opened in this program.

  As said by ZZ .tif files are images so do not contain not text that identifies the computer. The software that would be possibly extract any text that is in an image is called software OCR or optical character recognition.

  Although not always the case nowadays most all-in-one came with OCR software. Mainly designed for shooting a document scanner that a lot would also select a file to load as well.

  It will analyze the image to identify the text and try to work on what is actually the text, and then save the text or export it directly in Word.
