  This thing with 4GB-> / 3GB is not uncommon. The chipset is just to take a portion of system memory and turns to shared kept. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of the chipset does not tools release or someone set up a function to decrease/increase the shared video memory.

  So, in the case of 4 GB of RAM you have then 1 GB shared video memory.

  And what about dual channel: Yes it will still work on two channels.

  It is always risky to use a few improvisations for these issues. In my opinion, you need to use no broken parts to be sure, everything will be OK and you use the keyboard without some connectivity issues in the future.

  Can someone tell me where I could find simple instructions telling me how to take apart my old 430CDT to mount a hard drive more? I think replace drive 1.25 GB - with a 4 or 6 GB hard drive assuming the disks that I may need to adapt.

  Replacing the HARD drive is not difficult.
  The HARD drive Bay is placed at the bottom of the unit and you can easily access the HARD disk.

  To remove the HARD disk drive, follow the steps below.

  1. turn off the power the computer. Unplug the power cord and all external cables connected to the computer.
  2. remove the two screws that fix the backup of HARD drive to the computer chassis.
  3 pull the chassis forward by its handle to disconnect the HARD drive.
  4. remove the frame and the brace with the HARD drive.
  5. remove the four screws that anchor the frame on the HARD drive and separate the frame HARD drive.

  That s it

  From my experience, that is not possible you can not manually change the memory of graphics card everything is controlled by the software (graphics driver).
  This means that this driver assigns a certain amount of RAM main memory graphics so it s needed. If a higher graphics card memory is not required while the graphics driver will not assign memory to s shared graphics memory

  Yesterday, the same thing happened to me. Windows has received all MS patches and updates and the laptop everything was not more usable.
  It was amazing, slow but after several hours, I managed to install all the updates and now everything works fine.

  Laptop you can be upgraded up to 2GB. This is possible. If you want to use max 1 GB I recommend using 2 x 512 MB modules.
  You use PC2100 200 pin memory (266 MHz) DDR SODIMM!

  You will find the detailed description in your user manual I hope ;)

  But I'll post here a small instruction:
  The modules are hidden under the keyboard!

  -Disconnect all cables and remove the battery
  -Slide the latch of the screen at the front of the computer to the right and open the display panel
  -Insert a thin object under the edge of the brace of keyboard and lift them from the orthosis
  -remove the 2 screws of the keyboard and a screws of the metal structure and raise the metal structure
  -Remove the keyboard carefully (the keyboard is connected to the card cable in water. Make sure you do not apply a voltage of this cable and do not attempt to unplug this cable!)
  -lift in the sheet of insulation left on the memory module
  -Insert a new module into the slot and gently push it downwards so that it lies flat and is fixed by two locks on each side.

  As far as I know, this unit has certainly no overflow keyboard and this option have laptops in the series of cases like Portege (well newer models).

  It seems that you need to replace the keyboard. Please be careful because if later the unit includes damage and service partner can see the device is open, they can refuse to do anything. Keyboard replacement arrived within 15 minutes and can is not expensive. I recommend you make it by the service partner.

  Joey is right. You can't switch from one to another language. If you want to use the operating system on different languages you need Vista DVD facilities for that language. With other words: you must obtain the Microsoft DVD installations on the English language.
