But when I go to change PC settings, I see not being UP-TO-DATE and RECOVERY. I do not see the UPDATE of WINDOWS, but there is no button to VIEW the HISTORY of YOUR UPDATE. It has only one button to CHECK YOUR UPDATES NOW and nothing to SEE MY STORY UDPATE.

Historical Windows Update says my IE8 installation failed, but he did not. All updates installed after IE8 and Windows Update Custom says IE8 security there that more nothing to install. How can I fix the update history? The error code is 0x800706BE. I ran the tool FixIt from Microsoft Powershell and repaired Windows Update, but still false historical error. Windows XP SP3. I had rather not unintall/reinstall IE8.

  • How to stop Windows Update by creating temporary files on my external drives?

Any ideas on how to tell Windows Update to stay away from my external drives?

I have several external drives I use for backup projects, archives and collections of major media. They are connected to my laptop very irregularly and rarely more than a few hours. In recent years they have been inundated with folders with long as names d84fa74b9585277339 as the seams related to Windows Update. I think it has already started on the laptop with XP I had before this one. Sometimes I see these files on the internal hard disk, but there are theyalways disappear after some time. On external drives, I have to delete manually. On an NTFS disk partition I use for backup, it's not easy, sometimes I have to take ownership of the folder. Drives FAT32 / exFAT is easy.

I guess people who have developed Windows Update realized that you can not trust USB or eSATA connected drives to be there when the cleaning is executed (BTW when cleanup runs it?). So I must have screwed up a setting somewhere. And I have to be very consistent in this because the same thing happens with friends and relatives, I contributed to the installation of Windows 7...

    Cheers, Willem

    Hi EPLER, MICHAELC

    (1) do you use the computer as an administrator?

    (2) since when are you facing this problem?

    (3) remember to make changes?

    (4) are you referring to the following Microsoft article?
You receive an error message 'Administrators' only when you try to visit the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site

It is sufficient to indicate the complete error message you receive.

You can follow all the steps mentioned in the article (KB316524) above that solves this problem.

Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • How to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted win7 upgrade to win 10

Can someone tell me how to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted Win 7 upgrade to win 10.

Currently, I have 50 + 'important' updates pending and 3 updates "optional" (which one is ranked 10 Windows), but even with 10 Windows Update is not selected and the value "hide this update" the only option shown in Windows Update is upgrading to Windows 10.

Any attempt to install ONE of the other Win 7 or MS Office updates translates into Windows Update, saying that it is downloading Windows 10.

I would like to install updates Windows 7 (and MS Office), but given the way that Microsoft has put on several occasions customers for a forced update to win 10, I'd really rather not count on leave install Win 10 and just hope that the 'Roll Back' option really works without leaving me right where I am now.

I have put in some way my windows7 desktop computer so that only updates are displayed via the Control Panel & View Update History. It started quite recently & as far as I can tell there were no problem, but if a problem any occurred, it might be useful to review the history of update. My Vista laptop displays up to date all the way back to 2009.

Online search, gave information about the deletion of the history log (without removing the updates, of course).  This is not what I want, but a couple I looked on says that the story would begin again accumulate.

I would like to restore the full history, including all recent updates log, if possible. If this is not possible, I would like to at least repeat history acummulating.

Is this possible? If so, how?

  • Check Windows Update has disappeared

I disabled the box in Windows Update settingsso as to not give me updates for Microsoft products and not to check the new optional Microsoft software when I update Windows.

After that, the box has disappeared in the settings window, and I can't go back on my decision. I read somewhere that it could be corrected using the policy editor. I attemppted to do, but it did not work satisfactorily.

Is there an effective way to restore this box which has disappeared from the settings window?

    [Running Windwos 7 Pro 64-bit]

I found that I could try to clear the history in Windows Update as follows:

Paste this command to search for Windows.
    %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\

Go to the datastore folder, and delete the content. Reboot and re-scan updated them.

I did the above, after following the instructions of MowGreen wuauserv and bits.

After restarting the PC, the Windows Update page includes all the options and now shows the box who had disappeared.

The only thing I lost was the history of Windows Update.
