How to combine two video projects in Windows Movie Maker?

How to combine two projects?

I started a project and I would like to import and more old project to combine.

I guess that you are referring to the project .mswmm files?

The following steps may be worth a try:

Reach... File / open project... Select a project file.
When the project appears on the timeline... go to...
Edition / select all.

Open a different project... to... Editing / paste.

Now the content of the two projects should be on
the chronology.

To add more doing the same thing...

Edition / select all... open a project... Editing / paste

Another method would be to publish (save) each
the project in film WMV format and then re-import
both WMV clips and slide both to the
timeline. Then, you could publish it as a simple video.

  • How to open a new project in Windows Movie Maker?

I click on new project as the instructions say, but nothing happens. The last project that I worked on is still there. I expect a clean slate to appear.  Do I have to remove the old project first?  Does this mean that I can never change this project again without creating again from scratch? Is it possible to change once a project was converted into a movie?

1 save your last project of ALL.
Click FILE > save project under > give it a name of file > select where the project should be saved to. The project will be registered as (file name). MSWMM

    2 RE: New project.
As long as you have an empty window of WMM, you don't have to go file > new project. It's a waste of time.
Straigt go to the IMPORT section.

3 RE: is it possible to change once a project has been "published" (not converted). ?
Yes and no. You can always import the movie file in WMM and do some editing.
But it won't be as easy as having a MSWMM (registered) imported to WMM.

Watch the video file. The last 3 letters represent the file format.

Windows Movie maker only supports the following video file formats:

Video files: .asf, .avi, .dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

If yours is not on the above list, Movie Maker will have probel play.

In this case, you will have to google for a free video converter and change the format of your video file to WMV. WMV format is the most reliable format for Windows. For the benefits of others looking for answers, please mark as answer suggestion if it solves your problem.

    Thank you!

    NancyLouse,

Windows DVD Maker and Movie Maker store files with different file extensions.  This means that if you named the file 'file Movie Maker' and the DVD Maker 'file' file the real file names would actually file. MSWMM and file. MSDVD

To display the extensions on all the files follow these steps:
-Click on the ORB to start and Control Panel
-In Control Panel, click Classic view in the upper left corner
-Click on Folder Options, click view
-Scroll to "Hide Extensions for known Types file" and uncheck this box

The search in the folder now where you saved these files or use the search function, you should see the 2 different files.

What version of Windows are you using?  If the Windows Vista Ultimate and the file has been deleted somehow you can be lucky.

Vista Ultimate is a feature called previous versions.  To restore the file back to it's previous state, you can do a right click on the folder where the document has been stored (if the Documents may start, right-click on Documents) then go to properties

-Click the previous versions and you will see the dates corresponding to previous versions of the file you are looking at.
-Select a date and time that corresponds to when the file in this folder was in operational condition and double-click the file to open it

Find the file in the folder newly open and drag the file to your desktop (be sure not to drag to the exact location where the file was initially as not to overwrite the file).

    I hope this helps
