How to connect the Airport express as an Extender for airport extreme to El Capitan

I have a model extreme A1521 airport and a model express airport A1392 and upgraded my OS to El Capitan. I want to use the express as an Extender for the extreme because my old House is long and has thick walls. My problem is that Airport utility will not 'see' the express, regardless of its proximity to the main router (extreme). I tried to move and reset.

Of course, as soon as I get the utility to see, I need instructions on how to configure the express as a booster for my extreme.

Any ideas?

Unplug the Express and put it in the same room as the AirPort Extreme.

Put power on the Express for a few minutes, then hold down the reset button on the back of the Express for 7 to 8 seconds and release.

Allow a minute for the Express to restart

Click the WiFI icon at the top of the screen of the Mac

Look for an announcement of the new AirPort base station

Click directly on the AirPort Express Terminal

When you click on AirPort Express, the "Wizard" will open and take a few seconds to analyze things, and then see a screen that looks like the figure below, except that you can see your cameras.

Type a short and simple name that you want to call the Express

Click next

The installation wizard will take care of everything for you

When you see the message Setup is complete, unplug the Express and move to halfway between the AirPort Extreme and the area of the House that needs more coverage of wireless signal

Turn on the Express and you're all set

Important note... the Express to expand the quality of the signal it receives. About half of the potential speed on the entire nextwork is lost when you extend using a wireless connection between the airports.

It would be much better if you could connect the Express to the extreme by using wired Ethernet wired, permanent, since there is no loss of signal via the Ethernet cable and there is always a lot of loss of signal through the air, the (thick walls especially) walls, ceilings, etc.

    • Turning off AirPort Extreme for a minute or two
    • In the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme first... and keep taking them for 7 to 8 seconds... while simultaneously you reconnect the power on the AirPort Extreme.  (This step is a bit complicated for most users, because it takes almost 3 hands to do it properly)

  • Connect the Airport Extreme via Powerlink to the cable Modem

I have problems with wifi at home as the location where the my cable modem is far from ideal. I currently connected to an Airport Extreme, which works like the router (the cable modem has the router function disabled). Attached to the AE is also a powerlink and I have an Airport Express connected to the powerlink, which has its own network.

I was wondering if it would make sense to connect the powerlink directly to the cable modem and then put my Airport Extreme, a more central location in my home connected via Powerlink and there accumulate this way, rather than the current configuration.

I'm getting a second Airport Extreme soon as well and I have several express in my house, but the problem is that my wifi is not fast at all.

    Powerlink adapters are Devolo 600 & 1200.

    Thank you

It's always a good idea to place the 'main' AirPort router as close as possible of the area where most of the wireless devices should be used in this sense, your idea is a good thing... and in theory at least. ... .the powerline adapters allow you to do.

However, in practice... you won't really know how well... or even if... this type of installation will work until you try you. The reason for this is there is so many different things that can affect the performance of a type of current line of the installation program.

If you have time, there is certainly no harm in trying this type of configuration.  Post your results if you decide to try it.

  • Cannot set the Airport Extreme to extend the existing network

Network WiFi of my holiday home is provided by the router from my ISP (Time Warner). I have an Airport Extreme, which used to be configured to provide the WiFi network to another well, and I would use it to extend the existing on the TWC router network.

I had a lot of trouble to do a factory reset on the Airport Extreme, but I'm sure I managed (by turning on with the pressed reset button) after several attempts. At least the extreme doesn't show signs of the old network, he has provided.

When I try to set it up in the Airport utility, he wants only to create a new network. If I click on 'Other Options' and select 'Add to an existing network', the next screen is titled "This Airport Extreme will create a network" and prompts to enter a new network name and password. (Specifying the name of the network current generates an error because the network already exists, as I expect for the creation of a new network.)

Any ideas on how to tweak this Airport Extreme by extending a network?

    TIA,

    Doug

P.S. I have reviewed plugging extreme in one of the TWC router EtherNet ports and create its own WiFi network (with the advantage of adding support for 5 GHz), but the last time I tried I lost all connectivity; I'm afraid that the ISP network might protect against too broad network, although the glitch may have been a coincidence. If anyone has experience/ideas on this alternative configuration, I might be willing to try again.

AirPort Extreme would not be able to connect using a wireless connection and to extend the wireless network of the ISP, but if you can connect the AirPort Extreme to the ISP using a permanent router, wired Ethernet cable, then AirPort Extreme could be used to provide broader coverage of wireless in this way signal.

  • Airport Express is no longer connect to Airport Extreme

OK, it's kinda a complicated question.  For starters, I will describe my current setup:

Cable modem Motorola-> Airport Express #1-->(Ethernet over powerline)-> Airport Extreme-> multiple Airport Express for AirPlay

Airport Extreme and Airport Express #1 are put in place to create wireless networks, with different names for 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz frequencies.  I love this configuration because it allows me to play music simultaneously on the four different speakers hooked to my Airport Express units while offering good coverage in my apartment together.  It worked perfectly until two days ago when two of the Airport Express units lost their connection and are now flashing yellow.  I tried to restart the Airport Express and Airport Extreme, but nothing helped.  When I launch iStumbler, it looks like Airport Express #1 and Airport Extreme both create networks of right, but who is the Airport Extreme 802. 11A instead of 802.11n - don't know if it of a problem or not.  I suspect that the Airport Extreme is not working properly because when my wireless connection when you use my iPad near the Airport Extreme, that used to be solid as a rock, is now uneven intermittently.

Any ideas on how I can solve this?  Thank you very much!

It sounds like your extreme is the very old Gen1 or Gen2 model without dual band.

Back to the factory and start over. It's the best way to solve problems... reboot is worth a trial, but in the end, you sometimes just have to redo the installation.

  • Failure of the Airport Extreme and Airport Express

Airport Extreme not to talk to the device POE from the antenna of radio after a thunderstorm (lightning).  Plug the POE ethernet cable directly into Mac works.  Airport Express lights.  Airport Extreme appears, but there is no internet connection.  A port can be fried on the Airport Extreme?

Yes, but unfortunately the port that will blow is that ethernet is plugged.

If it's WAN then you do not have a way to use the airport as a router... only a bridge device.

  • Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

I got a modem Comcast/Xfinity upgrade. Xfinity X 1 modem/router is compatible with the Airport Extreme? How it should be configured to maintain my wireless network?

Whenever you change the modem or modem/router on a network, AirPort Extreme will be reset to the default settings and then set it up again to work properly with the new modem. For this he would be...

Turn on AirPort Extreme for a few minutes... If it is not already turned on

Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort Extreme for 7-8 seconds, then release it.

Allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme restart to a slow, flashing amber light status

Make sure that an Ethernet cable connects to one of the four LAN <-->Ethernet ports on the modem/router on port WAN "O" on AirPort Extreme

To start the Setup program, click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen on your Mac and are looking for a list of the new AirPort base station

Just below that, click directly on the AirPort Extreme and then follow the prompts for configuration "Wizard".

When you configure AirPort Extreme once again, you can use the same wireless network name and the same password that you used with AirPort Extreme with the 'old' modem, if you wish, or use a new wireless network name and password

  • Connect the airport to the hub of sky - sharing wireless problems

I just bought an Airport Extreme and try to connect it to my sky network hub (q) existing.

I had it put in place, with it connected via ethernet to my hub of heaven.

I have 2 external hard drives connected to the Airport Extreme and was a time machine back to one of the attached disks.  That everything worked very well, wait for the back up has been extremely slow (she had only managed 30 GB in 3 hours, and to do a TB).  I realized that the airport had created a wifi network of its own, and I was wondering if it was interfering with my main one sky, so I turned off the wifi at the airport.  Now I can not connect readers to share.  Utility can see them, but on my macbook, when I click on to connect to the server from the airport, it does not connect.

Should it?  I know I shouldn't need to run 2 wifi networks if my Airport Extreme is connected to my router from Sky via ethernet?  With gratitude any help appreciated!

    Catherine

When it is connected to the hub Sky by Ethernet, your AirPort Extreme should be reconfigured as a bridge.

To do this, use the AirPort Utility, as follows:

    • Run the AirPort Utility.
    • Select the extreme and then, select change.
    • Click the network tab.
    • Change the router Mode to: Off (Bridge Mode).
    • Click on update and allow the base station restart.

Airport utility shows green points on the AirPort Extreme and the Internet, but my my Mac mini does not connect to the internet. IPhones and 2 portable Windows connect very well, and see all the devices on the home network. The problem occurred after that PSI has swapped an ancient for a Comtrend CT5072T DSL modem. I tried to stop and things start back up as if the installation of the internet for the first time. No joy.

The airport connects using DHCP in Bridge Mode

    The router address is 192.168.80.1

    Address IPv4 is 192.168.80.2

DNS server is the same as the router, but grayed out

Mac Mini IPv4 Address is 192.168.80.3

    IPv6 automatically configures

Also updated the firmware of the airport; no change.

ISP guy was friendly but puzzled. He started at the top floor level Tech, so I do not know when I hear back.

    Any ideas to fix?

    Thank you.

    Hello

    Network preferences may be damaged.

Open the Finder. In the Finder menu bar, click go > go to folder

Type or copy paste the following text:

    / Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration

Click OK, and then move all files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the trash.

Restart your Mac. See if that makes a difference.

Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.

Then open AirPort Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilitiies

Make sure that both Internet and Extreme are green.

  • The airPort Extreme has green light, but nothing can connect to it.

My 5th generation AirPort Extreme suddenly stopped allowing all devices connect via WiFi or Ethernet. I can't see it in the AirPort Utility, I can not access it via the browser, and I've rebooted several times without success. I'm afraid, it may have just died, but I'll try to revive because while I can buy a new one, I hate the look of the new units. Any suggestions?

Try powering down of the entire network... all devices... in any order you want

    Wait a minute

Start the modem and let it run a few minutes

Start the AirPort Extreme and run a full minute

Keep a minute out one at a time until the entire network is back of boot devices

  • How to connect the cables to an AMD Radeon HD 7450 video card for two monitors individual work?

I have a HP Pavilion p6-2360eo with the video card Radeon 7450 connected to a monitor of 23xi Pavilion.

Now, I want to add a monitor of 23xi more, but I do not understand how to connect the cables to the video card to get two logical screen (different views on each monitor)

Supposedly this monitor can connect to the video card, you have the HDMI connection.  Assuming that the first monitor is connected via DVI, then try a HDMI cable to the second.  I got this from the description of the video card on THIS page.

Support up to two displays at the same time in these configurations: DVI, HDMI and VGA + HDMI (using the included adapter cable)

After the wave was installed yesterday, the only device able to connect is the cell that was active at the time of installation.

Sounds like Installer connected your laptop directly to a modem to put in place the new connection.  If that's what happened, then the modem will recognize your laptop, but it will not recognize the AirPort Extreme, then it will appear as if only your laptop can get a connection.

The modem and AirPort Extreme should probably be reset and then set it up again. We'll know more soon.

Can you provide the number of brand and model of the modem that was shipped with your service?
