  • How to copy the recovery on the new HARD drive partition, HARD drive failed?

    Hallo,

I have a Compaq Mini netbook with Windows 7 Starter.

The HARD drive has failed and it is not repairable. However, it seems that the recovery partition is OK.

I want to buy a new HARD drive, install the driver on the netbook, and then use the tools/recovery partition to install windows 7 on a new PC.

So, the question is simple: how to copy the recovery for the new HARD drive partition?

    Hello s91066.

If your hard drive of your laptop doesn't have? If this is the case, what do you mean by the "recovery partition is ok? I doubt that this laptop has two hard disks, so if you are able to see this partition of your hard drive may still work.

You will need a set of recovery disks to restore the partitions on the new drive. If you can start Windows, which you can probably not with a dead hard drive, you can follow these steps if you can get into Windows.

If you are unable to boot into Windows, you need a set of disks. You can order it directly from HP. The number of the United States / Canada is 1-800-474-6836. If you are in another domain, you must visit HP's Support around the world to find contact information for your region.

I hope that is useful; have a great weekend!

  • I can't find my external hard drive under 'Computer' but it appears in "Devices and printers" How can I access files on my external hard drive?

I can't find my external hard drive in "computer".

It does not appear in 'Computer' under 'devices with removable storage ".

I just want to get to my files so I can copy them to my new computer.  How to access my files on the external hard drive?  Why isn't he appear in 'computer '?

    Hello ShamedMonkey,

Thank you for your message.  The problem you are having is because of differences in formatting between PC and Mac.  You can, however, transfer your files between the two.  I will set out what must be done under and limitations of each.
First, you will need to format the drive on your PC.  When you format the PC, you can format it in FAT32 or NTFS.
(You mentioned that you do not see the drive in the computer) To format drive:
Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
    Click on "disk management".
In the right pane, you should see your drive > you can then do a right click and 'format '.
    FAT32:
This format will allow you to easily transfer files between the two.  This format becomes problematic when you transfer files more than 4 G.  There is a limit of 4 GB in FAT32, etc. of many movies are bigger than that and cannot be transferred using this format.
    NTFS
This format has no size limitation, however, in its normal state it will be 'Read only' on Mac.  If you will not be able to transfer all the data itself.  While doing some research on the web, it seems that you can use a program called MacFuse on your Mac to change to NTFS files.  I have not confirmed this, but you can give it a try.  If this program works as planned, it would be the way to go.
Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.

  • In iMovie 9.0.4 How can I move events to an external hard drive?

Note: I am writing this issue on behalf of my daughter, who is an old iMac running 10.6.8.   His version of iMovie is 9.0.4.

She has about 50 GB, events which occupies about one-third of its HD.  There is an external hard drive with lots of available storage.

How to pass these events to the external hard drive?

    Thank you

    Owen

For a long time I used iMovie 9 but this link to the help info gives instructions: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6d42c

Its probably safer to copy rather than move events (unless you already have a backup) just in case something goes wrong.

  • Unable to create/delete/change on all external hard drives only shortcuts

My problem is one I haven't seen and can't find an answer through research.

    Observations of the problem:

    • I tried to copy files to my external hard drive for backup.  All files copy very well, with the exception of shortcuts (.lnk) files.  They give the error "Destination folder access denied" that says: "You must be authorized to perform this action."
    • The error above then we observe when I tried to create a shortcut on the external hard drive.
    • When I tried to delete a shortcut I get the error "File Access Denied", "you must be authorized to perform this action. You need permission from the administrator of the computer to make changes to this file. »
    • When I found the Security tab, under properties of a shortcut, I get the message "You are not allowed to view or change the permissions of the object settings."
    • When I click on the button Advanced on this window, the owner tab says "Unable to display current owner." When I try to take ownership, it tells me to close and reopen the properties of the object until I can view or change permissions.  When I do this, it always says "Unable to display the owner current." and nothing has materially changed since before my attempt to take ownership of.
    • I tried several other external hard drives, and all of the above problems are the same.
    • All other files besides the .lnk file are perfectly accessible, modifiable and suppressible.  All .lnk files are the only files that have this problem.

I already tried without success the following:

    • Appropriate shortcuts.
    • Taking possession of the entire hard drive.
    • Ensure that I am a member of the Administrators group and connected as well.
    • Reset .lnk files default file associations.
    • Affecting the control settings to "Always notify me" "never notify" user account and vice versa.
    • To ensure that my connection is defined as administrator.

    All solutions?

The problem persists there then in Safe Mode? If it works then please this simple test. He starts from the principle that your external drive uses the E: drive letter.

    1. Open a command prompt (cmd.exe).
    2. Type these commands exactly and press ENTER after each:
      dir > E:\Test.txt
      dir > E:\Test.lnk
      copy '% UserProfile%\Desktop\*.lnk' E:\
    3. Make a report.
  • How to transfer data from laptop to external hard drive?

How to transfer data from laptop to external hard drive?

    my model is vgn-cr323.

    Thanks in advance

Let me provide you with General information on how you can transfer data from your computer to an external drive.

To transfer the data, plug the USB cable into the correct port. Usually, your computer will know that he has a new disc attached and a pop box up will warn you. It will scan to determine what to do with the new connection and your computer will assign a drive letter (for example, drive G: and so on.) This will allow you to transfer data to the external hard drive just like you would move files on your internal hard drive.

Once you have the USB cable plugged into your computers port (and the other end plugs into the external drive) you can now start to save files you want on the external hard drive.

Open the item (s) or folder (s) you want to transfer or save on your external hard drive. There are two ways to save external hard disk 1). If you have only one or two things to save, you can open each item, click on file / record under... and choose the letter/drive (for example, drive G corresponding to that of your external hard drive, click Save.) This he recorded on the external hard drive.

  • Satellite Pro A300: How to create the recovery disk

    Hello
I just bought a Satellite Pro A300 with Windows XP.
I want to know how I can or if I need to create a recovery disk that will reset the machine to its original state.
The information gives instuctions on how to proceed for the Vista machines, but not for XP.

I know that I can recover from the hidden partition, but where this is not possible, I wish I could get CD or DVD.
There is a recovery CD included product that says only: "MS Windows XP" so I guess that it does not include drivers or Toshiba Software?

    Any help appreciated,

    Hello

You have preinstalled software Toshiba TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator?

    Please check this box.
Using the TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator you can create the recovery disk.

But if your laptop was already pre-installed with Windows XP and then a Recovery CD or DVD must be included.

Have you checked all of the items in the box?

  • How to create the recovery disk

    Hello

can someone help me create a recovery for my laptop Hp Pavilion G6 disc - 2330 m

    Windows 7, 64 bit.

After inserting a dvd, I went to all the programs/maintenance/create a system repair disc

but it gives the following error:

The system repair disc could not be created

    The parameter is incorrect. (0 x 80070057)

I posted earlier on my laptop freezing and respondent very late in command. I decided to create a recovery disk but have resulted in this issue.

    Help, please.

    Concerning

    Maury

I suspect that the operating system on your laptop is probably not an OEM copy because of which the Recovery Manager is not available

FYI, if the Recovery Manager was available, you can restore (restore your laptop back to the factory State) without the need to create recovery discs. The D:\ disc that is the recovery partition that would help you to do on your laptop.

Try these steps and see if it works.

    1. click on Start button and type "devmgmt.msc" without the quotes and press ENTER key

    2. right click on the drive D:\ - HP Recovery partition and select Mark Partition Active.

    3. what would give you an alert/prompt, where you must choose Yes brings you to the Recovery Manager screen and restart your computer. You can follow the link that I provided above to start the process of recovery on your laptop.

    Note:

Please backup your files before recovering on the laptop that it would result in the loss of data.

  • My used external hard drive appears now as (g), it appears as (h). How to switch this back?

I plugged my Ipod without my connected external and now the Ipod 'stolen' label (g). No matter if its connected or not it (g) Ipod and external shows like (h). How to pass the external back to (g)?

    Hello

Step 1: Connect an external hard drive (before iPod conneting or any other external device) and then check if the G drive letter is assigned. If the G drive letter is already used by any other device, then it cannot be attributed to other devices.

Step 2: If none of the devices are using the G drive letter and then try to change the drive letter.

  • Creating the new folder to external hard drive

I've searched the forums and found many discussions on this, but I'm in a quandary.  I have an external hard drive Seagate 4 TB with about 2 TB of data backed up to it.  I was obviously saving data on this external drive without any problems.

Today, I tried to move my MacBookPro some data on the external drive and was unable to create a folder.  Reading the forums, I checked my permissions and it shows now that I have "Read only" permissions  In addition, it displays the disk formatted in NTFS.

How is that possible?  Everything was going well, 8 weeks ago.  How can I fix?

Reformat the drive for use on a Mac, NTFS for Windows machines, the drive to Mac OS extended (journaled) format

  • Re: Partition Recovery DVD or external hard drive

    Hi all

I need to create a recovery disk, but I only have one chance to do it.

The instructions indicate that I should do that on DVDs or USB key.

The question is: I wonder if I can do that on an external hard drive AND I can do it on a partition rather than use the whole 500 gb external HD is it possible? I can't spoil because as I said I have only one chance.

    Thank you

Follow the instructions of the DVD using DVD + R media.

  • How to backup my bookmarks on an external hard drive?

Original title: hot to save my favorites on an external hard drive

probably one simple question to others, but I would like to save my favorites on my external hard drive. How do I do that?

Assuming you are asking about Favorites in Internet Explorer, the following comes from Internet Explorer Help (and then search for "Export Favorites").  It describes how to export your Favorites to a file:

Import or export favorites in Internet Explorer

Favorites, also known as bookmarks, are a convenient way to organize and find webpages that you visit frequently. If you use Internet Explorer on several computers, you can save your Favorites from one computer, and then import that list to another computer.

    To export favorites
Follow these steps on the computer on which you export your Favorites from.

    Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Favorites button, click the arrow next to the add to Favorites button, and then click Import and export.

In the import/export settings dialog box, click Export to a file, and then click Next.

Select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.

Select the folder that you want to export your Favorites to and then click Next.

By default, Internet Explorer creates a file called bookmark.htm in your Documents folder. If you want to use a name other than bookmark.htm file or store the Favorites exported in a different folder, specify the new file and the name of the folder.

Click Export. If you already have a file of the same name, Internet Explorer will ask you to replace it. If you want to replace the file, or click on no and enter a new file name, click Yes.

    Click Finish.

    Note
If the folder you select cannot be written, as the Documents of another user folder, the export will fail. Repeat the export with another folder.

    To import favorites
Follow these steps on the computer that you want to import your Favorites to.

    Click to open Internet Explorer.

Click the Favorites button, click the arrow next to the add to Favorites button, and then click Import and export.

In the import/export settings dialog box, click Import from a file, and then click Next.

Select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.

By default, Internet Explorer is important from a file called bookmark.htm in your Documents folder, but you can tell it to import favorites that are saved under another name. Click Browse and select a file, type a location and a file name to import, or click next to accept the default value.

Select the folder where you want to place the imported Favorites, and then click Import.

    Click Finish.

    Notes
To share or transfer Favorites from one computer to another, export or copy the Bookmark.htm file to a disk or flash drive. You can then import your favorites of the disc or the flash drive on the new computer.

Favorites from previous versions of Internet Explorer can be imported in this version.

To print your list of favorites, open Bookmark.htm in Internet Explorer and then click Print.
