How to determine if a USB device is plugged into a Windows system?

I want to determine when a USB device (either external HD or USB key) was pluggeed into a windows system. Currently some systems will appear in the system log when they are connected, but the majority are not. Is there a way to check whenever one is plugged?

I need information to view audit logs (System, Application, security)

Original title: USB audit

Thanks, CT

There is a video on how to do it here:

Note that it uses 'gpedit', so it will apply to XP Pro and not XP Home machine.

I recently updated my Windows 7 install to Windows 8 Pro computer with a clean ("custom").

My computer is originally shipped with USB 2.0 ports. Later, I added a PCIe adapter with USB 3.0 ports.
In Windows 7, if I plugged in a USB 3.0 on a USB 2.0 flash drive, I would get a message from Windows saying "this device can run faster. However, Windows 8 gives me no this message.
The core team USB wrote an excellent blog: How to determine if a USB 3.0 device works at SuperSpeed? According to the blog, my ports must operate at the speed of USB 3.0. So why I don't see the message 'could run faster' when I plug a USB 3.0 device in my USB 2.0 ports?

    Hello

In Windows 8 If you plug a 3.0 device into a 2.0 port will operate at 2.0 speed. If you plug
It is in a port 3.0 it must operate at 3.0 speed. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed

  • Problem installing drive USB Flash to use as RAM in Windows Vista, the device is plugged into an unsupported interface"

Im trying to use a new 4G Verbatim USB flash as RAM drive. The USB 2.0 flash drive, micro size so I can leave it plugged dedicated solely to that purpose.  When I go to 'Properties' and I open the reading push tab I get "the device is plugged into an unsupported interface ' it is plugged into the USB 2.0 port I used before.»   When I plug the USB in an another store bought (more long and 8 GB) I click on the Ready Boost tab and I get the options use as RAM. This one is too long to use.

    Hello

You can view the information of the link.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/using-memory-in-your-storage-device-to-speed-up-your-computer

Note: a flash drive may seem meet these requirements, but Windows Vista can still detect it not as compatible ReadyBoost if its rated speed measures sequential and random performance and performance is not always quick on the set of the flash player.

    Hope the information is useful.

I have a small problem that should be pretty easy to answer. A quick response would be nice. I'm new on Windows 8, and when you plug a device into the audio jack, a box used for poster asking which device is connected. Now that the box appears when I plug in a device. How do I get it to appear again? I have Windows 8, with player realtek HD audio. More info can be provided.

    Hello

This problem can occur because of incorrect audio settings. Let's try a few steps to solve this problem.

    Method 1:
As you use Realtek HD Audio, I would suggest trying the following steps and check if it helps.

    Enable auto-popup
    a. press the Windows key + X, choose Control Panel, select hardware and audio.
    b. scroll and select Realtek HD Audio Manager.
    c. click the icon for folder just above and to the right where it says analog panel back and just below the device's advanced settings.
    d. click Activate dialog popup automatically when the unit is plugged in.
    e. click OK twice.

    f. now, restart the computer and check the issue.

    Method 2:
If the problem persists, I suggest you to set the headphone or speaker that you connect as a default value, and check if it helps.

    (a) right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click on "recording devices".

    (b) right click on the space empty in the window pop up and then select "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices".

    (c) right click on the headset and then click on 'Activate'.

    (d) (d) mettre put out the microphone, then choose "set as default device".

    (e) click apply and Ok.

Hope this information helps. Answer the post with an up-to-date issue report to help you further.

  • VN7 - 791G: Wifi slow and unreliable when a USB drive is plugged into the USB ports on the right.

WiFi becomes quick and reliable whne the memory stick is disconnected. Always reproducible. Does not occur when the memory stick is plugged into the USB port on the left. Also has anyone seen this behavior?

Wireless network adapter Qualcom Atheros QCA61x4 with the version of the driver 12.0.0.230 dated 03-2016-21.

    Thank you

    Chris

    Hello

The explanation is simple. I'm sure that the memory stick is a USB 3.0, a plugged in a USB 3.0 port. The problem is that all USB 3.0 devices generate a 2.4 Ghz interference, as it generates interference on the frequency working on wireless. The solution is to connect the player to another port or to spend the 5 GHz wifi if your router supports. The wifi antenna is probably very close to the port and to the USB key.

This is known for a long time, and has nothing to do with the laptop.

There is an article on the Web page of intel who described the problem more technically. You can search if you wish.

This causes a problem also with a wireless mouse, if the receiver is connected next to a USB 3.0 stick or any other device.
