  Well, you have to use scripts aside server to pull information from a database. Then store the user name in a session variable or a cookie. And finally use an if/else statement to check if the user is logged on or not to determine whether a user name is visible here or if it shows the links to register.

  Do you need to in the same column? If this isn't the case, you could pull in another column of the alias and use conditional formatting to hide either or depending on the generation.

  The document is checked and the user name is registered. It is the only name available at the moment where the document to enter the workflow, which would be the only user attached to the content so far.

  You don't need to manipulate the credentials yourself in code. MAF will propagate the logon cookie or inject the identification information in the HTTP header if cookies are not supported.
