  There are several ways to achieve this effect, which involve cutting out the dress in the background.

  To select the dress, I recommend playing with the quick selection tool (see below), to select the area of the dress.

  

  An alternative is to draw around the edge of the dress with the pen tool. Once you have drawn around the dress, right click and click 'make selection '. The pen tool give you more control over the area of selection than does the quick selection tool.
