How to find files of outlook data on a hard drive removed from a windows xp machine?

My phone no longer works and I was able to get most of the data of my backups that they did not understand my outlook e-mail accounts. I have the removed disk and got a hard drive enclosure. Problem is that I can not locate the outlook.pst file. Do you know which directory it is?

The default location is C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserNameSettings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and the default name is Outlook.pst

You can place Outlook files anywhere that you want so you will have to search for *.pst to find them all [assuming you have created several].

If you want to put them in a place which is included in your backups in Windows 7, then:

1 close Outlook after consuming at least once [the file is created on first use].

2. go in C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook [you must show hidden files to reveal the path to get there, or you can simply paste the path into the address box of Windows Explorer to join directly the]

3 move the Outlook.pst you will find at a convenient location in My Documents.

4. open Outlook.  Will report you that it cannot find Outlook.pst and will give you the ability to browse for it then point to where you put the file.  [When you open Outlook, it will look at the new location without asking any other]

  • Find files on the data store that have been removed from inventory, but not deleted from the disk

I have ESXi 4.1 and with vSphere Client to manage virtual machines.

Some of my users continue to use the 'remove from inventory"rather than the option" remove disc "in vSphere when they want to delete the virtual machine.

This leaves the computer virtual on the data store but not used. I have since removed this privilege among the offending users but I need to do a bit of cleaning.

I have a lot of files on the data store where users have done this in recent years. Probably about 150 records but only 80 VM listed in the inventory.

Is there a way I can output, a report showing the data of each machine store directory in inventory so that I can remove anything not on this list? ID rather not to manually check the parameters of all 80 VM in the inventory.

Out ideal would be something like:

    MyVmNameHere 1, \MyVmDirectoryHere1\ [DataStore1]

    MyVmNameHere2, \MyVmDirectoryHere2\ [DataStore1]

  • How to install a hard drive more on a Windows Server machine?

Disable windows server and install the new hard drive

I installed windows on a hard drive server but now I want to turn off and install on a new larger hard drive. How can I go about it?

    Hello

There are a few options that you can try:

    1. format the hard drive.

    2. replace a new operating system. When media starts, you are presented with the option to format the drive before installation.

    3. If it is a separate partition, and you're dual-boot, you may need to set your boot options after formatting your partition WS2008. Demarrer start on your older operating system drive, and then select the boot option fix for your existing partition from the operating system.

Note: If both the HARD drive is connected to the same machine, start from the media format of the previous installation on the old HDD and install the operating system on the new HARD drive.

  • Satellite L300-110 - how to recover without losing any data on the HARD drive?

    Hi all
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-110

The question is how can I recover my laptop with the recovery DVD without losing all the data located in the hard drive?

I confirm the information published by Luke.
The HARD drive and all other partitions should be formatted using the recovery disk.
Why? The recovery disc sets the laptop to factory settings and to this end, the HARD drive must be formatted first.

That is why it s is strongly recommended to back up the data if you want to use the recovery disk.

Outlook stores this information in various places (not necessarily your profile unless you have programmed to store there).  You should check to see where it is set to store these data (I think it involved several different files).  Please repost your question in the Discussion of the Office group at: http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.outlook.general&lang=en&cr=US where people who specialize in issues of Outlook will be more than happy to help you with your problem.

How can I change lightroom 5 previews smart on the book of mac pro (mbp) when lightroom master image files 5 are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external hard drive the mbp, I get the pop following window: "external hard drive A" disc could not be ejected because it uses 'Lightroom '. Exit this application and try out this disc again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - screen select catalog appears, but does not list my external hard drive A as a choice.

I've been reviewing Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart web page Previews Lightroom 5 and still have not been able to understand what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

    HI Thomas,

Thank you very much for your suggestions! They finally gave me the direction I go solve the problems I had. Basically, the Mac Book Pro based Lightroom irdata files still had thumbnails. Once I removed the and redirected Lightroom external hard disk, smart previews of the external drive work when the player is well off the MBP. Much obliged.

I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to backup all the files content and related data of Lightroom that exists on the external hard drive to another external hard drive as a backup? Ideally, it would be great if I could be able to launch security HD since the Mac Book Pro and do the work of Lightroom with the backup image files and intelligent previews correctly. Thanks again. Your help has been invaluable.

  • Need to retrieve the BONES but do not have the habit of losing data on the HARD drive

    Dear all!

For long time now, I tried to disable a Trojan horse or a worm, on my Windows XP Home (Home!) i.e. get rid of the cftmon_.exe, when I decided to follow the instructions from Symantec and pieces manually deleted from the register, I guess she was part USERINIT (turn off the system before restore and put on after the deletion).

It can be as well as I did not right, something after the fact that I have would be to end the session at the time the logon process has started. This is relatively known issue here, with different options.

-J' need to keep the data on two HARD drives.
    -I have no other partitions.
-I don't know what I've got on one of them, which I could use to free space Recovery Expert mode.

    a. the fact that I want to take the option with Toshiba, which is Expert mode (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2513&tstart=125) as a last recovery, DVDs on

    b. I have trouble with the installation of the Recovery Console (with Windows XP (Professional!) original CD, 'R' for 'fix), but I would get the message "Setup has not found hard disk units installed in your computer"...
I understand that I would need to install the driver RAID (http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=20093&messageID=73758) but I'm afraid that this may delete the data on the disc.

    My questions are the following:

1 install the RAID driver (downloaded from the Toshiba off site web http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/updates/raid-drv/raid-drv-qog20-xp-1380.zip and installed on the floppy drive I guess) so we hope to install the Recovery Console, and do the rest of the work, make data disappear my 2 (remove) HARD drives?

    2. If I use Toshiba Recovery DVD, Expert mode that is finally what is the size of partition should be recorded for the mirror on the half vacuum 1.HDD?, should I partition 2 HDD, after it backup and count data will be lost? Choose any setings special during the process, apart from those mentioned in the link above? What should I do after wards? The registry damaged when you logged in and how can I build? I will be able to use personal and archive data from Microsoft Outlook?

    3. is there a alternative with UBCD4Win and UBCD? What is the best? What is the procedure of after the start of the CD after reboot? How to copy/repair the userinit files?

I'm sorry for the load of information, but I am pretty stuck. All the necessary data for my normal life are buried here!

A big thank you JohnnyS, tw, Quad, Eldorado and many others!

    See you soon!

    Hi friend

I would like to respond on comments like yours, it s a good exercise for my work and my s really cool to have a few topics which will help all the people here.

JohnnyS is a friend of mine who works with me at our office and we talked a bit about your problem.
If his opinion is to use the UBCD4Win and work with this option.

    The advice from him were:

Take a USB - HDD enclosure and put a disk in it and start with UBCD4Win. Copy any important data in a folder on the external HARD drive, then remove the uneeded data on this subject. Only important data!
Make a backup of your data on the external hard drive for two HDD´s I hope that you have enough free space.

Format the drive in your machine and get it back. Install the system as usual on your first HARD drive.
    Then put the data anywhere.

So I don't know if I have it just ask, a little more explanation would be useful. I think that this is a long thread. ;)

    Welcome them

  • Transfer data to external hard drive from XP to Vista

How would I be able to transfer data from a XP hard drive (which is in an external case) on my new laptop with Windows Vista? Please let me know. Thank you very much.

original title: I have a XP hard drive in an external case, and I would like to transfer the data on Windows Vista.

    There are several options:

External drive is already connected via USB?  Your new computer sees the old disk when you open Explorer?  Is the drive external HARD in the format identical to the new machine Vista (probably NtfS)?  If this isn't the case, you must first convert the external hard drive to NTFS.  http://technet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb456984.aspx (although written for XP, it works with Vista as well).

If so, create a new folder on the new disc called 'From Old Computer'. Go to the old drive. Now * COPY * ("hold") the files to the new folder that you created. After getting everything copied on you can turn off the computer and unplugging the old drive to protect its content - where everything is not going according to plan.

Now you can take your time by placing the files copied, where you want that they finally reside on your new computer.

If you have problems with 'Access denied', follow these steps on the external drive of the new computer:

In Explorer, right-click on the drive in question and select Properties

On the Security tab, click Advanced
    On the owner tab
Select you realize if it isn't already and
Check "Replace owner of subcontainers and objects".
Click OK twice (close all dialog boxes)

Defines you as the owner of every folder and file on the disk

In Explorer, right-click on the drive in question and select Properties

On the Security tab, add your account if it is not already there and set full access
    Click on apply
    Click on advanced
Check "Replace permission on the child all the objects with...» »
    Click on apply

If you do not see a Security tab, then turn off Simple file sharing (you may need to do in reconnedcting the count to the old XP machine - I'm not sure that this can be done through the new computer).  To do this, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810881.  The same may be true if the nets and records are password protected (although using a different procedure to remove the password to protenctio similar to what lets you add it iin the first place.)

If you have problems setting up the permissions or ownership on the disk external drive files and folders, some information here that might help:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

If the external hard drive is not USB but IDE instead, here is an article on two methods that work for transfer: http://www.wikihow.com/Transfer-Data-Between-Two-Hard-Drives.

    ==================================================================================================================

I realide what follows is not what you asked, but if it is still possible, it might be a better solution than moving the data to the external hard drive.

If the external hard drive has only the data and you want to transfer settings and data (and perhaps even of programs if they are compatible with Vista) from the old XP machine (if it is always present and contains information on the new computer (which is better because it also transfers your program and other parameters (and maybe your programs) as well as the data (or you can ignore the data if it is the same which is))) already on the external drive))), then use the transfer tool.  Here's how: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Migrating-Vista-using-Windows-Easy-Transfer.html#.  This is how I do the trasfer if I had to do it because it makes the implementation of the new computer much easier and faster.

Here is another article on how to transfer data and settings from an XP machine to a new Vista computer using an external hard drive (although it discusses other methods as well): http://www.digitaltrends.com/how-to/how-to-transfer-your-data-from-xp-to-vista/

Jere het another article on the use of Transsfer easy to pass data or parameters (and perhaps programs) from a XP computer to a Vista computer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial138.html

    =====================================================================================================================

I hope this helps.  If you have questions or problems on the way, do not forget to post back and get help.  It is best to do things right the first time.  And even once, I highly recommend using Easy Transfer (although this is not how you setup at the moment) for the transfer to get the new computer up and running much faster and easier.  The decision is yours.

    Good luck!

  • New installs on Windows 8.1 and file transfer from an external drive, saved from death PC Vista machine

Hi, my old under Vista Home Premium (32 bit) desktop PC is dead and has been replaced by a new machine Windows 8.1 (64-bit).

I took the hard drive from my old PC and put it in an envelope and the files seem to be fine. I need advice on how to do the following things 4:

    (1) how to find and transfer of e-mail, including records and contacts (I used the e-mail program provided Vista on the old machine) on the new machine and I can't actually set up mail on the new machine to my ISP (BT Yahoo) first (I didn't click on the mail app yet).

    (2) how to find and transfer bookmarks/favorites of Chrome and the old disk to ie11 and/or Chrome structure on the new machine.

    (3) how do I transfer files (photos, music, documents, etc.) so that they are available for all users

    (4) I installed iTunes on the new PC, I want to transfer music files and album cover (I don't know how the album covers are found, and some are "home made" to cover the chronological collections of singles) from the old machine in the easiest way possible

Thank you for all the tips and advice.

Hi Tovoyer, I'll try to answer your questions in order.

    1. Transfer old contacts and emails in Windows Vista Mail

      • First of all, you know that Windows Vista was the latest OS to come with a desktop e-mail program.  Windows 7 and 8 do not come with any successor to the Windows Vista Mail program.  Instead, you can get it as a download in the Windows Essentials page option.  Windows 8 has a rudimentary base e-mail app, but it is designed for the Tablet/phones and the lamp.  If you want something that compares to Vista mail program, you'll want to get the free download of the essential elements in this link before you move forward.
      • After you have installed most of Windows, you can open the program (so renamed "Windows Live Mail" and add your ISP e-mail account.)  This will download depending on how your ISP provides email, all or part of your story by e-mail in the new programme, possibly negating the need to transfer anything from your old installation.
      • If you do not need to transfer your old files, navigate to the file / import Messages option in the Windows Live Mail program.  Choose "Windows Mail" in the list, and then navigate to this folder on your external hard drive attached:

        D:\Users\(your user name) \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local records
(replace D with the drive letter for your hard disk enclosure, of course).

      • To transfer your Contacts is even easier. The Vista mail program did not contact directly, it stores everything in this folder

        D:\Users\(your username) \Contacts

The file present in Windows 8, you can simply copy (or drag-and - drop) your contacts from the external drive on your drive of Windows 8 (C:\Users\(your name) \Contacts) and it will be flawless.

    2. Transfer of Chrome Favorites
      1. If you signed in using your Google account chrome, all of your favorites are stored in Google account, ready to be restored without effort.  Just to download Chrome again, go to the Tools menu and connect you and your bookmarks should appear.

If you do not use the Google account or had the sync disabled, you can still find your bookmarks.  After installing Chrome on your new PC, find the old bookmarks on the external hard drive file here:

        D:\Users\(your Name) \appdata\local\google\chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks
(Note the bookmarks is a file, not a folder, but has no file extension).

And put it in the same folder on your installation of Windows 8.

    3. Transfer of Documents and Photos/etc and put at the disposal of all users

Simply drag - move the files in the folder "Public" user on Windows 8.  These files are shared by all users.

    C:\Users\Public (\documents \pictures, \videos \music, etc...)

  • You can simply drag the folder iTunes from the old drive to the same place in the drive of new (music folder of your user account).
  • Access the data on the hard drive

My hard drive on my laptop failed.  I replaced and reinstalled windows vista, but I could not access any data on the old hard drive.  I was able to install it as a backup of my desktop computer hard drive and I can see the directory structure, however, whenever I try to access the data in My Documents, I get an error G:\users\moe\documents\my is music is not accessible access is denied.  Any ideas how I can access this information, assuming that it is not a physical problem with the hard drive.  I have the password of windows I used to access the computer, but I don't know how to use it since this drive is not the one I am running windows from.  The computer that I use to access the data on the hard drive is on windows XP, if that makes a difference.

The computer tries to access the old hard drive and the old hard drive are XP.  It is a forum for Vista.  All the procedures I have on this issue are only for Vista.  You should repost your question in the right place.

Please repost your question in the Forums XP: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsxp where XP experts will be happy to help you to gain access.  I don't know it's just a simple issue of permissions and/or property which can be easily solved with the correct procedures.

I hope this helps.  If you later need help transfer of data to the Vista machine, then come back here and we will help you.

    Good luck!

  • How can I check all the errors on my hard drive?

I was awarded errors on my laptop which is running windows 7 that I might have an idea how to do to check and correct these errors. Thank you

    Hi Grandpa

Thanks for your posting in Microsoft Community

You can help solve some computer problems and improve the performance of your computer by making sure that your hard disk has no errors.

    1. Open the computer by clicking on the button start , and then clicking computer.

    2. Right click on the hard drive you want to check, and then click Properties.

    3. Click on the Tools tab and then, under error-checking, click check now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will simply report a problem, but not to fix them.

To perform a full disk check, select search and attempt to recover bad sectors. This scan is trying to find and repair physical errors on the hard drive itself, and it may take much longer to complete.

To check for errors file and the physical errors, select both automatically fix errors in file system and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    4. Click Start.

Depending on the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, do not use your computer for any other tasks while it checks errors.
