How to fix partitions deleted by Windows Update

The last round of updates has wiped four partitions by changing the table to partition under Windows 7 Professional 64 bit!

After being on holiday for three weeks without a net connection, I found a multitude of necessary updates apparently when I arrived to my laptop at home.  Fortunately for me, I downloaded my photos from the laptop to the desktop machine before making updates.  (The laptop is fully protected by McAfee, with no reported problems).

One of them has changed my partition table so that only the C: drive is available.  The rest of the [space previously is now apparently 'Free space' according to the utility disk in Windows 7 Professional 64-bit management.]

Nice!  Now, I don't have my scores of programs, data, images or media.  In addition, the registry is in trouble because she still believes that all the programs installed in the partition programs are present, but can not find them there is no partition!

It seems that I find myself with an installation from scratch to straighten out the mess - unless someone out there knows better?

Thanks a bundle, Microsoft? !! ?? !!

An update on what to fix the mess created by the updates from Microsoft on my laptop Dell Studio under Windows 7 Pro. 64 bit.

Updates rewrites the partition table, as well as four of my five partitions of Windows was "abducted"!

I found a recovery program testdisk - 6.11.3 which seems to come (once again for a VERY useful tool) through the Linux community, but works on multiple platforms.  It took several hours to get the scan of the disc, but it has found all the partitions.  Either way, they were marked as 'deleted' - thanks a bundle, Microsoft!

He tried to restore them, but failed to set the start up correctly.  Who would just have me, but I don't think that I had put the OS partition to make bootable.

In any case, after the restart to supposedly fix the problem I had no machine at all as it lacked a Boot Manager.  So with the OS install disk and try the 'Repair' system provided.  He finds that the start was a problem and promised to fix - but it is a progam of Microsoft Jefferson all the.  Guess what - no solution.  Exactly where I was before the 'fix '.

I failed to panic and run the repair.  Got a totally different interface to this second time, and after a series of checks, he returned with an offer to repair the found errors.  Since he gave a report to check, I did exactly the same thing.  Several tests in the list - the last of them was important.  He had found - guess what... a problem starting.

Because it claims to be able to solve this problem once again I let it do its stuff.  After the restart - Bingo!  All my partitions are back to work.

A huge relief!

PS: If you have the same problem set a side a day to sort, because that's what it took me! ??

PPS: If you buy a computer without a disk OS installation you will not be able to do what I described above. The computer had a "Recovery" partition, but it was no use at all with the mess, that updates of the partitioning of the disk. Lesson: no OS install disc - find another provider!
