How to force the shared folders to work?

I have Windows 10 host and guest OS Windows 7. I have Visual Studio is installed on Windows 7 comments, and I'm trying to compile code that is located in the shared folders that I go up as network drive.

When I try to do this with Visual Studio 2013, library file contains all zeros (binary, I see it in hex editor). It's a bug of folder for sure, because otherwise (no folders) compilations is OK.

Is it possible to fix this bug and force the shared folders to do what they promised, i. e. to share files between the host and the guest operating system and do not write all zeros in the output file?

Hello

Not really, these types of problems hit the option files shared for many years.

Workshares of files for simple file sharing, but if you want to use as the project file in Visual Studio, then what you see is not really surprising.

Yes you can troubleshoot it and spent a lot of time trying to make it work. Which may or may not work.

However, the General recommendation is to use industry standard file sharing shares - for example native Windows - instead of construction option of share if you want to use for this type of scenario.

A common alternative is to develop locally within the virtual machine and share it with other computers using source control systems.

  • How to activate the shared folders in the VMware tools

    I'm running a Windows 2003 Server EE guest x 64 OS in a virtual machine hosted by ESXi 3.5 u4 build 199239. • Cannot map the shared folders to the drive letter in WIndows prompt

    I seem to have a problem with the shared folders in a Windows on Fusion 6 client. Turning on shared folders in the VM options creates the "VMWare shared folders" shortcut on my desktop, and I can open and view files shared host, as expected. However, it is not map the shared folders to drive Z: in Windows because I expect, and I can not also go to shared folders using the path "\\vmware-host\Shared records" (for example, only by typing in the address bar in a window of the Explorer). It is a problem, because I need a path that I can put scripts to refer to things in the shared folder.

    Also, if I access network in Explorer, vmware-host is there but trying to open it gives me the error "Windows cannot access \\vmware-host."

    I'm running 6 Fusion on OS X Mavericks, and the guest is Windows 8.1. My .vmx file contains the following lines which I think are related to shared folders:

    insulation. Tools.hgfs.Disable = "FALSE".

    hgfs.mapRootShare = 'TRUE '.

    hgfs.linkRootShare = 'TRUE '.

    sharedFolder0.present = 'TRUE '.

    sharedFolder0.enabled = 'TRUE '.

    sharedFolder0.readAccess = 'TRUE '.

    sharedFolder0.writeAccess = 'TRUE '.

    sharedFolder0.hostPath = ' / users/buck/projects.

    sharedFolder0.guestName = 'projects '.

    sharedFolder0.expiration = "never".

    sharedFolder.maxNum = '1 '.

    For me, the weirdest thing is that I can get for shared folders by using the shortcut on the desktop, but by typing the exact path and the shortcut points to in an Explorer window does not work!

    If anyone has any suggestions on how I could get this works normally, I would be very grateful - thank you!

    I think you should activate windows network discovery if you want to browse vmware host in the network.

    You can enable this by

    Control Panel-> network and Internet-> Network and Sharing Center-> the advanced sharing settings

  • Can't see the shared folders in WIn 8.1 comments.

    I'm using VMware Workstation 10.0.1 and I earn 8.1 as my host OS.

    When I set up a VM 7 Win, shared folders are working as expected, but with a VM 8.1 Win I can't find folders in Explorer.  Also, I tried to access it via \\vmware-host and \\.host without success.

    How can I see the shared folders in a Win 81 guest VM?

    Thank you!

    Hey Psi,

    I had a similar problem. Worked fine on Windows 8.0, but after modernized this VM for Windows 8.1, the shared folder feature has stopped working. Only after the reinstallation of VMware Tools, it worked again.

    Please note that a 'fix' on VMware Tools installation does not provide it, only a complete uninstall/reboot/install/reboot sequence makes this feature back to life for me.

    Hope this helps,

  • Workstation and the sharing folders

    Hello

    I ' trying to prevent users to access the shared folders for security reasons. I tried two things that don't work:

    1. I defining the. VMX file with this option isolation.tools.hgfs.disable = "TRUE" but every time the virtual machine is run, the user can set the option sharing folders.

    2 - I have configured the config.indrop and UNK drop with this same parametter things.

    Is it possible on VMplayer 5 and 6 to restrict the shared folder for him have grayed out?

    Is it possible to do it well that registry (WINDOWS 7)?

    PS: I tried also with VM tools to disable the sharing options during installation but the same thing.

    Help, please

    The only way you can stop a user from changing the shared folders for a given virtual machine settings is to change its parameters of access control by encrypting and turning restrictions.

  • How to load the shared entities

    Hello guys! I did experiments with Chargeback manager for awhile, but I have a question. So far, I have seen that with Chargeback manager, it is very easy to calculate the cost of features in a virtual infrastructure (for example, ESXi, VM etc) based on several cost models.
    But what happens when we talk about shared resources? For example if a (BU) Business Unit uses an ESXi server, it is very easy to load than BU. You have created a cost report that ESXi and you present to the BU.

    But when, on the other hand, you have DRANK using the same things that ESXi (for example a mail server) can become more complicated. You can still find the cost of this ESXI, but how will you allocate this cost on the BU who use this server? For example, divide the cost by the number of BU? Or divide the cost by the number of BU take the consideration of the number of users in each BU... etc...

    So the question is, if Chargeback Manager has additional features that could help this process...

    Bravo!

    Hello

    Yes, but the function is only limited to virtual machines directly added to a folder of chargeback hierarchy. Chargeback has an option to share a VM on records (i.e. from Business units). Please refer to the user guide for "sharing cost of Virtual Machine.

    For now, you need to calculate the percentage of shares according to the criteria (number of email users) for a virtual computer and use this Chargeback percentage manually.

    Kind regards

    Agnes

  • How to force the screen sharing to use Ethernet 2 port?

    Hello

    I have 3 MacPros connected in my studio. MP1 is the master and I use screen apart to see MP2 and MP3. Now, I bought a very quick switch to connect these 3 between them via the Ethernet Port 2 MP1 and at the same time have the MP1 connected to the internet and printers, servers and so on with 1 Port Ethernet. But this is not possible, because the screen sharing will prefer to use the port where the internet/router is connected.

    When ONLY Ethernet Port 2 is active, screen sharing using this port and it works perfectly, but when turn on again once, 1 Port Ethernet 2 remote Mac loses connection.

    Is there a way to force the screen sharing to use Port Ethernet 2?

  • Is it me? Fusion on Snow Leopard, Ubuntu 10.10: no network, none of the shared folders.

    On my Macbook, I use VMWare Fusion course and installed Ubuntu 10.10, which worked pretty well. I'm not an expert in everything, I use Ubuntu only for very limited use and do not plan to make my standard OS, but in this case, I have no choice. For this work, I need to share files, copy and paste text and use the network.

    But from the beginning, I have these problems:

    #1: whenever I send the virtual machine to sleep and wake up more later he acknowledges no more network connection.

    #2: I share a folder on my Mac OS but I can't see them in Ubuntu. To be exact, I can only see the public folders from Mac users, but not those that I added.

    #3: copy / paste between Mac and Ubuntu does not work.

    Then I looked through the menu and found that VMWare Tools are not installed, then I started the installation via the menu. The only result is that a CD of VMWare tools is downloaded and installed - and then nothing happens. There is a text "manifest.txt" file that contains version information and an archive that contains a Setup program. If I double-click on that one I am wondering with what application I want to open it. Very funny... I don't know how to use it.

    Any suggestions for a beginner?

    In the VmWare Fusion menu, I choose the folders that are on Mac and decide if he is reading only or read and write.

    Looks like you use folders shared HGFS and involved getting up from different Windows and Linux handle this. In Linux, look under/mnt/hgfs to find the HGFS folder shared.

    I just changed one in Mac OS shared, everyone is allowed to read and write. Now I can see the content from Ubuntu. But I certainly don't want to share with all the members of my network. This folder is NOT in the list of folders that are common between Mac and Ubuntu, it is shared over the network, but not through VMWare.

    OS X folders behave differently from HGFS shared - folders they use different protocols and transport mechanisms.

  • How to force the sansa to refresh the database

    Hello

    often, when I put a new folder of songs in the folder music to my sansa e250 and unplug it, I find that all the screens of player is the new songs I added, not all.

    I switch to msc mode and try to turn on work to try to get it to update the database, but it will not.

    How can I get rid of this problem?

    You look at the settings/Info/Firmware version. v1 is 1.x. v2 is 3.x

    In v1, the database is DATA within the SYSTEM - folders hidden Windows.

    In v2, the database is mtable.sys in the root directory of Sansa, the drive letter itself.

    Delete the database and it should be updated with what is on the device.

  • How to force the Explorer search to show ONLY the files that match the search target?

    I frequently need to search for files with brackets in the name of the file.    However, a bug in the Search Explorer means that search results will fill up with a lot of waste that does not match my search target.

    Example:

    At a command prompt "dir/s * (abc) *.» ' * ' usually works: the name of each file found will contain "(abc)".   (The only time that a search for the command line fails is when the version 8.3 of the name of the file matches the search target, but the name of the actual file does not work.)

    However, in Solution Explorer, look for "* (abc) *.» "*" returns all files with 'abc' in the name, and provides no way to filter the results so that I only see files with '(abc)' in the name of the file.

    This search bug means that you want "* (de) *.» ' * ' at the command prompt returns 72 hits, while searching with Explorer returns 7381 hits!

    Cancellation: Another inconvenience of Windows is when I work at a command prompt I get often unexpected results because the wildcard matching is done against both the full name of the file or folder and the name of 8.3.   Is there a way to force cmd.exe to restrict the wildcard matches only the complete names of the files and folders?  That is to say, is there a way to force cmd.exe to never, ever, use the 8.3 names?

    Hi Rob,

    In order to quickly provide a solution, please answer this question:

    Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    Follow the steps below to solve the problem:

    Method 1: If you have problems of location of the files, folders, or other items on your computer, try using the search and indexing of troubleshooting to solve the problem. It ensures that the Windows Search service is running and checks if you have the correct permissions to search all the directories on your computer.

    See the article below for additional information and steps.

    Open the troubleshooter for search and indexing

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-search-and-indexing-Troubleshooter

    Method 2: I also suggest you to re - index files, then check. Follow the article below for the procedure.
