How to get a manufactured HARD drive date?

How to decode a serial number of the HARD drive to get the correct manufacturing date?

I found some information, see the attachment below, but the HARD drive in question is SATA and serial number decodes to Feb 1997 which may not be correct.
SN in question is 27MJFxxxx. Instructions below, 7 = 1997 - which would be 2007?

Thanks for any help.

How to encode a Toshiba hard drive serial number?

Toshiba serial number (S/N) includes the date of manufacture. The first digit of the serial number indicates the month of manufacture and the 2nd digit is the year.

Example:
M Y x x x x x x x
M = month
Y = year

Data for the month goes from 1, for January, by 9 in September, then X, Y and Z, for October, November and December.

Examples:
2 8 1 7 0 0 0 1
2 = February
8 = 1998

3 0 5 4 4 3 0 6 T
3 = March
0 = 2000

X 9 7 8 3 3 1 T
X = October
9 = 1999

The remaining digits contain information about the plant and the production line, and some numbers are reserved for a continuously running serial number.

Hello

I googled a bit and there are a lot of people that suggests how to read a serial number, I have no idea if he of right, but for example if you have a serial number: X7TO234534, then the product data would be October 2007 (X 7)
X = 10 = October, Y = November, Z = Dec
The first number is the month and the second digit is one year.

So in your case, the serial number 27MJFxxxx should mean Feb 2007

However, these are only some gossip on the internet and who knows if it of good or bad

  • External hard drive & data backup, files, etc...

    Hello

    I have following questions.

    I have laptop Toshiba 32-bit system with Windows 7 Ultimate, inauthentic operating system installed on it.

    (1) my internal hard drive (built-in) has problems, I wonder if I get an external hard drive and install a genuine operating system on this subject and back up my files of residency on external hard drive disk and leave the player internal State, I would be able to use the computer correctly? Or should I get an internal hard drive attached, for the proper functioning of the computer?

    (2) since then, existing on the internal disk operating system has problems, if I decide to re - install a new operating system genuine on my internal drive, what is the best and safest to back up my files, folders, and data before installation?

    Any input in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    You can not install Windows 7 on an external drive. Windows 7 requires that install you it on an attached storage device internally. What you can do is to back up your current installation of Windows 7 on a hard drive external. Install a new hard drive, then restore the backup of this drive. To learn more:

  • Satellite Pro L50 - a: how to replace the memory, HARD drive and battery

    I just uploaded 2 new video from Youtube on the L50 - A. Satellite Pro

    The first is a tear down showing how to replace the memory, hard drive and battery (you can also clean the fan if it detects overheating).

    http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=IG0lW7t92bI

    BTW why they made it so difficult to get just to the battery in this model?

    WARNING - proceed at your own risk and don't forget static precautions!

    Hope they help and if you have any questions let me know.

    Thanks for these videos. It may be useful to replace the memory, but I think that the owners of the laptop should not open the case. This may void the warranty.
    Be careful about this.

  • Get the old hard drive to work on the new processor

    I am a PC Tech company with problems on PC at home.

    My Win 7 Home Premium Dell Studio T435/9000 dead.  It was a motherboard problem, I chose not to replace the CPU/Mo with a duplicate.  The hard disk MBR is good, I could read it and when I installed in an Optiplex 990 at work, it is initialized.

    I had the chance to receive a new Dell T5610 with 2 CPUs of a parent.  It came with professional Win7 preinstalled on an SSD, UEFI boot on a GPT disk.  But all my apps are absent and even a rat-pack obsessives like me do not have all the CD and install the files for the various applications on the old hard drive.

    I want to use my old hard drive on the new PC, then after that it's stable, migrate the old hard drive to the SS disc supplied with the PC.

    First problem was to learn the differences between MBR and GPT.  After this was learning that Home Premium does not work on a PC with two separate processors.  I use Win7 professional for that.  With the help of this forum, I was able to do this by using the Optiplex 990.  I run Win7 Professional on the Optiplex 990.

    I take the former home of hard disk go BIOS to legacy.  Old hard drive that boots on 990, does not start on T5610.

    I try various advanced options, safe mode, low-resolution video, nothing works.  I get a BSOD is a hard drive error, STOP 040000007 B.

    I try Startup Repair tool and get the following:

    Problem event name

    Offline Startup Repair

    1 6.1.7600.16385

    2 6.1.7600.16385

    5 Autofailover

    6 1

    7. bad driver

    6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 OS version

    Locale 1033

    How can I get my old hard drive to work with the new processor.  Is it a question of Dell, a Win7 Office.  As the hard drive starts up successfully on another CPU, I believe that the hard drive is good.

    Thank you very much for your help!

    Thanks to you all.  But the solution was completely different.

    Dell said the motherboard on the accuracy was so different from my old PC that unless I reinstalled Win7 Professional from scratch on the old hard drive, motherboard would not work with the old hard drive.

    They have guaranteed that the old hard drive would work on a 8700 XPS.  After some problems, I managed to do the work.  Problem solved.

  • DELL Precision T7500 eSata connector on the rear of the machine - how to get power to the drive?

    Howdy,

    I have a DELL Precision T7500 with an eSata connector on the rear of the machine - all my existing SAS and SATA ports on the motherboard are taken and I want to connect an external SATA drive.  How to get power to the drive?

    Is there a map that I can buy.  I have PCI, PCI - X, 2 slots available on the motherboard PCI Express.

    Should I consider that meanders on a power cable 4 wires from inside the machine?

    Thanks in advance.  :)

    Greetings MakesOwnWeather,

    Thank you for your question.

    You need to use what we call a 'hard drive enclosure. What is the physical size of the hard drive external that you want to use? 2.5 inches? 3.5 inches?

    The device draws power eSATA or USB below don't ports so no need of an additional power cable. He receives only 2.5-inch disks.

  • Portege Z830 - where can I get the new HARD drive

    Hello

    I have problem with my toshiba portege z830 ultrabook.
    My HARD drive died, and I don't know where I can get the new HARD drive.

    I've got guaranteed but I am forgotten registered my cell phone before when I went for repairs not authorized, because my first problem was with the motherboard.

    This motherboard has been replaced for new ones.
    If my warranty is maybe cancelled.

    Well, that's my problem to another.

    What should I do?
    Please help me. I am available to do anything.

    Hello

    I think that you should first check if your warranty is still valid.
    This can be checked on Toshiba Unitdetails page:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails/

    Where the warranty is valid, get in touch with maintainer authorized Toshiba in your country for replacement.

    But as far as I know the Portege Z830 was equipped with an mSATA SSD drive.
    This means that the laptop doesn't support HDD 2.5 common but requires special mSATA SSD drive module.

    In case your warranty is not valid, you will pay for a new mSATA module.
    Replacement should do a service provider authorized Toshiba as well because this replacement is a little tricky on this model of laptop.

  • How to get to the C: drive when Xp does not boot?

    Hello

    After a few months of excellent performance of my laptop Satellite M40X I started having "blue screens of death" that eventually led to complite crash - all I get is a message (new on blue screen ;)) which):
    ---------------------------------------
    #STOP: c0000218 {Registry file failure}
    The registry cannot load the hive \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or another.
    It is damaged, missing, or not accessible in writing.

    Dumping physical memory to disk: ____ %
    ---------------------------------------

    I've read about this problem and I know I can do nothing to do only the OEM of Windows XP copy (recovery disk bootable, which, once entered gives me no access to C: don't drive command line). My question is thuoght, if it is possible to somehow get in my hard drive and safe some files before you format it? I have a desktop with Xp and network cable. Is it possible to install the memory stick or USB flash memory stick to BACK so I could copy the files on their?

    Thanks in advance for any advice
