  After several calls to the technical support of HP (which is also the warranty service for my Vista installed factory), the problem of update is finally resolved by reinstalling the operating system Vista.  Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.

  I am running a 32 bit Windows Vista and my automatic updates recently installed "major updates", but there must be one which is mess up my computer. Fortunately, I was able to do a restore of the system on my computer right before when the updates are installed, my computer is working again and the error code that was spotted in the restoration of the system was that there was a bad patch.   2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

  I suggest that you disable the security software installed on the computer and then install the updates, one after the other and check.

  You have a Setup for this computer disk. Sometimes when you get something second hand / for you etc., it is best to wipe and start over.

  To replace important files would require an installation diskettes. Reinstall, SFC, repair installation etc.

  1. Click Start
  2. Select Control Panel

  According to the description you posted in your message seems that you can not install updates, this problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are met:

  1. The Windows Update database is damaged.
  2. Antivirus software is configured to scan the folder % Windir%\SoftwareDistribution.
  3. Service (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not receive a content link header.
  4. A required system file is incorrectly registered.
