I have an old computer 2002 I needed to do a reinstall on and now I need to update the little girl, but when I try to use the program to update the window I get a 0x8024400A error. thoughts?

Please can someone help me on how to install service pack 1 for vista. I have tried almost everything, but no matter what I try it givng custody me of error codes. When I tried with automatic updates, it says download 0% done but no matter how long I leave it still says 0% done. Properly installed service pack 1 status has not updated the Windows edition information.
Original title: windows vista 32-bit sp1
just installed the new hard drive on laptop. re-installed windows vista Home premium 32-bit. Traverse and filling all windows updates. service pack 1 is now next in line. 1.9 MB file downloads and "installed". do not reboot several times or take an hour or longer. complete in a few minutes. Windows update said installation was successful, but when I go into the system settings to make sure that the windows edition has changed, it is not sp1 as it should. I just have to wait a little while and try again, or is there some other im in question has not detected? something would be useful. system works great otherwise :-) Thank you.

I downloaded 5 theme packs from the Microsoft web site. It is said that they are all windows XP up to 7 operating systems, but my system does not recognize these files.

Today, I took my laptop and that fixed it. They installed Windows 7 (I have problems with Windows 10). Now I'm adding all of my programs, and was told that I needed "Service Pack 1" installed. It shows that I have Windows 7 when I right click on computer and click Properties. I don't have Service Pack 1. When I go to Windows update, it says "Windows is up-to-date. But if I don't have Service Pack 1, how Windows Update? And how to fix this?

Step 1: Check if Windows update-related services are set to automatic and started.
Click Start, type services.msc in the start search box, right-click to services.msc, and then click Run as administrator.
Check the above services below:
(a) Background Intelligent Transfer Service
(b) cryptographic service
(c) Windows UpdateStep 2: Rename the Catroot2 folder
To rename the Catroot2 folder, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, type cmd in the search box and right-click on cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.
2. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each line:net stop cryptsvc
Ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc
output3 remove all tmp*.cat to the following folder:
% systemroot%\system32\CatRoot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}
If any of the files that begin with tmp exist in this folder, do not remove any other files. Files .cat in this folder are necessary for installing hotfixes and service packs.
Important: Do not rename the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot. The Catroot2 folder is automatically recreated by Windows, but the C:\windows\system32\catroot folder is not recreated if is renamed the folder C:\windows\system32\catroot.
Step 3: Reregister DLL files that are associated with Cryptographic Services
To register .dll files that are associated with Cryptographic Services, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, type cmd in the search box and right-click on cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.
2. at the command prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:

3. reduce the Services (local) window.
4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.Note: By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive: \Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. At this location, the drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed.
5. make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then enlarge the Services (local) window.
6. in the Services (Local) pane, click Automatic updates, and then click Start.

Step 5: Disable the security software
Note: You can enable it later.
Step 6: Scan Run SFC

While not a real problem... have you tried to jump SP2 and just install SP3 after SP1? Your question seems to be quite common, and that is what most people seem to have ended up doing.
