  The write cache and virtual memory are different. Virtual memory is an extension of the physical memory residing on the HARD disk where Windows is installed. Normally, the virtual memory is about twice the size of the current physical memory. Write cache is an exclusive setting for external hard drives only and has no effect in internal hard drives.

  In your case, please note that full 24GO of RAM will not be allocated to the program. At least 1 GB will be reserved for windows, so the rest of the programs are moved to virtual memory, which means that the HARD drive. It is not recommended to disable virtual memory because it can cause stability problems. In addition, the files are not copied directly in memory, even if they are big. Instead, the parts of the file are available and this area, including the incremental values and material, are stored in the memory. So if all of a sudden, you access an area of the file which is very far away from the previous location, it takes time as the new area, as well as differentials and material value of a few bytes is also copied to the memory.   The HARD drive slot is not repairable. It s a HARD disk controller and I guess the HARD disk controller is dead.
  The HARD disk controller is part of the motherboard and if you want to repair it, so the entire motherboard must be replaced.

  New motherboard would cost a small fortune he of not good about market 350Euros
  That's why I put t think it is s to replace the mobo only to get the HARD drive in the first location of work

  Once more, I'll have to the fantastic MS Answers community to learn more. My PC (custom, build Windows 8 Pro x 64) has decided that it won't start after downgrading my system BIOS (it should be called whenever the system loses power, which is not good). In short, here's what happened and what I did to try to resolve the problem:
  • Hard reset the BIOS and set it up again - no change.
  • Re-flashing the BIOS with a floppy to start BACK - no change.
  • Restore defaults (in BIOS) - no change.
  • Try to start disk repair Windows 8 - Windows logo appears for a minute or two, and then a small message will appear in the upper left corner. The system reboots too quickly after the message shows to know what he says.
  • Start on a custom bootable CD and run chkdsk /f /r on the OS disk - TONS of errors appear and the program says that they are all fixed after finishing.
  • Try to start it from the OS disk - BIOS recognize drive bootable but system restarts before Windows logo is visible (it's the same problem I had before attempting to solve the problem).
  • Try to start on the ERD in Windows 8 - same mistake as last time.
  • Try to start installation of Windows 8 DVD - the same error as the ERD in Windows 8.

  As usual, I am lost on how to solve this problem, which is quite annoying because I work part-time as a helpdesk technician. Any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

  I assume that your bios is corrupted somehow...

  I know that you had mentioned, you were a problem and having to do a hard reset each time that the machine loses power... It's happened just ask me if you tried to replace the battery on the motherboard that handles the bios...

  I also think that if the bios is damaged you have to re-flash either with the same version or a newer version...

  I don't know how this could suddenly be a problem on two machines if... Unless it's a bios setting that has been changed, or maybe that they BOTH may need a new battery?...

  Could be either the card mother, CPU or ram. The processor when it goes bad or is not locked in place (have had this before, install the CPU but forgot to turn the lock, so he cannot move) the computer will act as its startup, don't give any error and stay on a black screen. Verify that the processor is locked in place. Then remove the ram and try a stick of RAM that runs on another computer.   If the CD/DVD drive in the works of PC Gateway, you can (at least temporarily) remove it and install it in the HP, you can run your recovery disc and reinstall Vista.  Once everything is running on the HP, you can always remove the CD/DVD drive and reinstall it in the gateway PC if you wish.

  I ordered on eBay a second hand replacement (1133 Mhz) CPU SL5CK. (same number of pins, the same processor family: RH80530)
  When I go in, the laptop starts, but there is nothing on the screen and no HARD disk activity.

  So I asked the seller if he had tested the CPU, it sent, he said no and sent me 2 CPUs of replacement, another SL5CG and a SL64Z (which does not appear on the Intel site for some strange reason, but which is of the same characteristics as the SL5CG..)

  Some laptops in the series 3000 Satellite (e.g. 3000-601), are delivered with a 1133 Mhz CPU (SL5CK) and also share the same bios exactly like my 3000-214. (upgrades to the bios on Toshiba website for my 214 & 601 are the same exact links and MD5 are equal). Also the 3000-601 & 3000-214 share the same chipset: Intel 830MP.
  But for some reason, it does not.

  My warranty is looooong Sub anyway, so if a Toshiba employee could check in the basis of how fast max CPU can be used on the Sat 3000-214, I would be very grateful.
