  Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

  Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
  launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
  reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

  Thank you all for your help and your suggestions. This problem turned out to be be many facet, including my using an old, a version of Thunderbird that requires an update, two bad drives (a whole new out of the box) and a lot of lost files, fortunately I was able to retrieve and use to reset everything. Just finished all functional if there is a few hours.
