You can make My Documents private in XP Home. Since you don't mention what version of XP you are using, your end goal is, if it is a home or work computer, etc. I can only give you the following background information. If you are in need of more detail, thanks for posting back with missing details about your situation.

XP does not use passwords to protect resources. NT operating systems use the permissions. Here's the information to help you with that:

How to configure file sharing in Windows XP (includes information about permissions):

By default in XP Home you can only files and folders under My Documents "private". Otherwise, to display the Security tab in Windows XP Home, restart in safe mode and log on with an account that has administrator privileges. Go in Safe Mode, press the F8 key as the computer starts. That you will get the menu where you can choose Safe Mode.

Note that the file system must be NTFS, FAT32 not.

Passwording of folders is not possible unless you their zip. When you do (right click on a folder, then "send to > compressed folder") and then open the zip file, you will find an option under file > "add a password." Otherwise, use a third-party software. Google "password protect folders".

  • How to make a picture folder private?

I would like to make a few photos on my private computer, like putting some sort of password or something. is this possible? How can I do?

    Hi jessamy,.

You cannot use a password to protect the files and folders in Windows. However, some programs that run on Windows allow you to protect individual files with a password. For more information, see the help for the program you are using.

There are other ways to protect your files and folders in Windows. You can encrypt your files, manually specify who can access the folders or files, or hide. Choose your method based on how to secure the folders or files must be. EFS is the more sure, hiding the folders is the least secure.

You can use your favorite search engine to download some third-party tools that provide a password for your folders and files.

Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  • How to make Vista Explorer/folder look like XP Explorer/folder

I love my XP machines. I tried a Vista machine a few times, but could not stand his fanciness. I just bought a new laptop. Vista is the only option for the new laptops at Best Buy and Dell. So now I'm stuck with Vista. I changed the interface classic Windows, removed the sidebar, added all the icons on the desktop, like XP. However, I can't find a way to change the Explorer and folder in the XP-like Explorer and folder.

For everything that Vista offers that I am not fancy, style Vista Explorer and folder structure are the only thing I absolutely can't stand. It makes me dizzy, it moves with the mouse - to above, there is no button to the TOP, the look of crowded folders (not clear from who's who a subfolders). Please, help me find a way to restore the folder from Vista to XP structure. Otherwise, I have to rebuild a new laptop to use XP, and I don't want to do if I have an easier choice.

    Thank you!!

    Hello XP user,.

Thank you for posting.  There is no way to get Explorer from Vista to have the folder structure of the Explorer in XP that you are interested in using the features and tools in Vista.  You maybe able to do it with the 3rd party tools and/or applications.

  • How to make files in the private folder Accessible again

I use Windows XP Media Edition and made a private folder.  I saved the file at a certain point and then later made the public folder again.  Then, I moved the folder to the shared folder.  I then deleted the user who had originally the private folder that are associated with.  The computer recently crashed and I had to reformat the HD & restore the OEM System.  When I restored the backup files I can access the folder, but the files say access denied. If I try to change the security for Encriptación attributes I get an error Code 5.  Is it possible to recover these files?

  • How to make a model for a quarter fold card

How to make a model for a quarter fold card - horizontal and vertical format

    HI Mickey,

Check the file > new file selector model to see if your version of Pages offers card models. This began as a two "single fold" card on US letter in landscape orientation.

The model included three pages. Page 1 Page 2 inside, outside, and the third was a blank page. Only Page 1 was included in the original document.

I started by the insertion of a page inside, containing two of the big text box below.

Back to Page 1, I chose an image returned vertically then horizontally, then repeated this procedure with the text box that contains "Thank You".

I traced the two objects, then moved inside page, placing the pair in the upper left corner.

Inside page, I removed the text in the box on the left and replaced by "left inside,"a label to mark the position of this section in the final map. "

I added a text box, entered 'Back' returned vertically then horizontally and dragged to the position shown.

Save the result as a model.

Using the same document, I went to file > layout and changed the landscape to Portrait orientation.

Do drag the blue guides to the indicated positions, then reshape the elements to fit the new space.

Save the result as a model (with a different name of the above registered version).

    Kind regards

    Barry
