  If I understand correctly, you are unable to open the shortcuts in internet Explorer on the desktop for a maximized window. Please, try the following steps and check if the problem persists.

  1. Right click on the shortcut on the desktop, and then click Properties.
  2. In the shortcut tab, change the option extended in the run section.
  3. Click OK.

  Not sure if I understand the problem. But here's a response to just about anything if you do a RIGHT CLICK you get a MENU list and there you should find "create shortcut". Make a LEFT CLICK and you should see it appear in the folder your in. Then if you RIGHT click ON the shortcut you can 'COPY' or 'CUT' and then do a RIGHT CLICK and 'PASTE' anywhere.

  I'm not sure what you're asking for 100%. You have a Windows Explorer icon on the taskbar? If you drag the "My Documents" folder to the taskbar it going bust in the icon WE.   What kind of shortcut?  FWIW I just click right on my desk, new > shortcut and it gives then the shortcut Wizard:

  cmd.exe /c echo hi & pause

  Then he called Test.

  It seems even easier that I remember XP.   For example do a right click of my new Test shortened reminds the complexity that someone just starting to create a shortcut could face.
