How to prevent the installation of software administrator account in Windows XP Pro?

sing - Windows XP Professional SP3

The PC is for home use, is a standalone PC, not a part of any domain, workgroup or network or LAN. There is only one administrator account. I want to restrict all softare installation from this admin only account.

How can I do using all possible ways using gpedit or any tool of microsoft or any third-party tool.

Hi Lisa,

I suggest you make a new standard and set up of the restrictions in the same way user account and are logged as an administrator, you have all the rights on this computer.

For more information, see this link: How to create and configure the user accounts in Windows XP

Why use a standard account instead of an administrator account?

Hope the helps of information.

Please post back and we do know.

  • How to prevent the installation of software and IE extensions / toolbars, etc.

I try to help a small business at home with a Windows 7 PC with IE 9. The PC is used for normal business purposes: Microsoft Office documents, e-mail (AOL app), video editing and burn them on DVD or download YouTube and Vimeo, and research in Internet Explorer for commercial use normal and legitimate

    My questions are (explained later):

All the PCs here have parental control of Microsoft and Microsoft Security Essentials installed. None of the PC should be able to be used for something ELSE (not only internet) between midnight and 08:00.
    1. How can I get Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 automatically restore the State by default when it is closed? As if it were a PC in an internet café, library or school? This allows to avoid the (intentional or accidental) installation of toolbars, extensions, etc. in IE 9, if possible, I'd like to keep Google as the default search provider and homepage; In addition, the extensions 'regular' such as Flash Player, Real Player and Acrobat Reader must remain in place and JavaScript should work.
    2. the son managed to resume using his own PC (and perhaps the PC business) at limited hours. I guess he got Windows 7 SysInternals disk to remove the administrative password. Is there a way I can stop that then reapply restrictions? Maybe he simply restored the system from the recovery partition or reinstalled Windows, so I need a way to prevent these things from happening as well. A firmware password would do the trick?

This probably wouldn't have happened if there was a way to allow installation of the software on a Standard account. On the own PC of the son, it's okay if it installs the software, browser toolbars and so on--even if it is malware. It is only the PC that should be free of this professional. It is also possible that it has installed this junk on the Professional PC as a form of punishment.
It is not possible to force users to use Firefox or Chrome instead of IE. And IE suffered from some bad extensions that were installed in Chrome.
    Explanation:
The owner of the company adult son uses this PC occasionally working for the company, but mostly for its own use. The son, who can be a little mentally ill and lives with his father in the House where the business is, continued installation providers extensions, toolbars and search for malware, unwanted, unsafe in Internet Explorer and change the homepage. Office workers may have also unintentionally installed some malicious software search engines.
Occasionally, the son works for the company, so must have the PC of the company. However, he often uses the PC for its own purposes, which includes things like trying to download protected content (movies, television and music) without having to pay for it. It seems that he sometimes spend time free looking for games. (Before I put on the parental control, it had installed several of them. There still frequently installed toolbars, extensions and search providers in Internet Explorer to facilitate this [protected media download] and [probably] some of them gets simply by visiting the types of malicious websites that claim to offer free stuff. The son has four pieces of his own, which are almost unusable due to multiple malware infections.
Owner of the company I was install the parental control on the PC of the son in addition to the PC business to prevent the use of any computer between midnight and 08:00 when the son is supposed to sleep or study and not play games or use the computer for something ELSE. According to the owner of the company, the son psychiatrist said that the son must sleep during those hours every day.
Currently, it is not possible for me to question the son - it is of course very unhappy about not being able to install software on PCs own hie. Not that I was all happy that all this, but he isn't one to pay me.
Sorry, this has been so long. The situation is a little stressful.

A knowledgeable user can bypass/get around any account login admin password, by using any method found in a search on the internet.

You can try to set up separate for normal use restricted user accounts.

You can also configure another admin account, with the reset/recovery disk of password for your own use. (In which case a user causes problems in their attempt to circumvent restrictions)

Assuming that PCs are networked / connected via a routor, a decent has the ability to restrict the sites accessible both to prevent net access between certain hours, on a per PC basis.

There is software of third parties, such as used on some PCs consulted by the public in the scenario you mentioned, although how it would affect normal business type useage I could say.

Certain third-party Internet security applications also have the ability to restrict access/use their own parental controls

  • How to remove an old password protected administrator account on Windows 7?

I inherited a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium on which someone has left the protected by password administrator account they created.  There is a notion of past protected standard user account that I can play with, but I don't have the ability to change the type of account, etc.  Can I get around this without spending money on software or technician?

Your best bet is to perform a destructive factory restore. You do not know what is hidden on this machine (perhaps unknown to the former owner) and you might be in for a few surprises. Consult the manufacturer's web page for detailed instructions. This will also solve the problem of password.

You use a Microsoft (with Microsoft electronic mail connection) or a local account?

If you use a Microsoft account, you will need to enter your email password to log into your account. If you have a local account, you can remove the password by following these steps:

    (a) press the Windows key + C, select settings
    (b) click change PC settings, select users
    (c) click on change password under sign in options
    (d) when you are prompted, type your current password and leave the password empty.

  • How solve 'cannot log in to my administrator account on Windows vista?

I try to change my password in safe mode. but seems still does not...

You can change your password to something that you remember another administrative user account. If you had only an administrative user account and you have forgotten the password, all is not lost. You can then follow the general recommendations for implementing user accounts in Vista that I will give you at the end of this post.

All this requires a certain level of computer skills. You know better and that take the machine to a competent local computer tech (not a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad place) is the best solution for you.

If you have an installation of Vista DVD (not a recovery DVDs), you can start the system with it. Select the default language, then select "repair your computer". Then select "Command Prompt". At the command prompt, type:

NET user administrator / Active: Yes [press Enter]
NET user [insert here the name of your user account] [insert the new password of user as 1234 here] [press Enter]

[Note: do not enter the brackets!]

Remove the installation DVD and restart the computer. Now, you will be able to connect to your user account by using the password that you set; for example, 1234.

If you do not have a Vista installation DVD (only have a recovery disk), the computer mftr. may have given you the option to repair Vista (not a system recovery!) system in the diagnostic menu. This menu of diagnosis is the same one where you can choose Safe Mode. Get to this menu by repeatedly pressing the F8 key as the computer starts. If you do not have this option, you can make a bootable Vista file repair DVD in this link:

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

Note: All the Neosmart recovery disk downloads are torrent files. There is a good explanation of the torrent on the site Web of Neosmart files. You will need a torrent as muTorrent client to get the files. Torrent client will download the .iso file with which to create the bootable DVD. You will need to use third-party burning software such as Nero, Roxio or the free ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com ) to burn the image .iso image file, not in the form of data.

Once you have fixed things, log on to the additional administrative account you will be made by the suggestions below and disable the administrator account integrated yet for security reasons:

Start Orb > Search box > type: cmd
When cmd appears in the above results, right-click and choose "Run as Administrator" [OK]. Now, you will get the command prompt. At the command prompt, type:

NET user administrator / active: No. [Enter]

    Exit the command prompt.

General recommendations for creating users in Vista:

You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all the other modern operating systems, Vista is a multi-user system with integrated system of accounts as default Administrator and comments. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

In particular, you do not want one account user with administrative privileges on Vista because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult.  It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but there may be more that you want to do. Better not to put you in a bad situation at first.

The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. As a user Standard is recommended for security reasons and will help protect your computer against infections. After you have created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null). MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • How to prevent the installation of the Logitech software

    Hello

As I installed Windows 8 it keeps listening me to install the drivers for a mouse that does not connect: mouse M600. I have a MX Anywhere mouse connected. How can I stop this thing to try to install the software of the evil mouse?

    Hi nuccii

    I don't see the HID-compliant mouse.

No, it wasn't. He never came close to this new facility. :-) it was connected to the receiver in my laptop at the time, but it was never connected to the receiver in my PC. It was almost paranormal how he discovered that he had a different mouse in the room... (brrr).

I ended up using the unifying software to reconnect the MX to the receiver, and I thought that stopped the message. Installation without mouse BTW it's not really possible more these days.

A few days now, Logitech continues silent.

  • How to prevent the tabs to open in a new window?

Given that I have updated to the latest version of Firefox, I am plagued with a problem, and I can't seem to stop. When I go back to Firefox and click on any tab, it almost always causes this tab open in a new window. It is a feature - drag a tab in the screen and it will cause this tab open as a window, but I'm not meaning to drag these tabs, I understand! I use Firefox EXACTLY as I've used it for years, but for some reason, it seems to be interpreting my clicks differently - either I'm dragging the tab a * little * bit, or it simply registers that I dragged the tab when I did not. Is there a way to disable this feature? Or a way to decrease the sensitivity of the thing, so that you really need to let slide the tab into the input window opens in a new window? It's really making me batty. I'm about to move permanently to the Chrome.

To be completely clear: what happens when I'm just trying to switch from one tab to another.

You have no need to move your cursor a lot when you press the mouse button causes the tear-off/detachable tab in a new tab. No 'sensibility' that I know. The tab in the new window can be moved to the original window.

To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

  • Prevent the creation of new user accounts in Vista

Is there a way to prevent the creation of new user accounts in Windows Vista? What about restricting internet access to all new account that is created? Help! :)

    Hello

If your contact is logged on as administrator, then he or she can create a new user account. If you don't want someone else to create a new user account, you can then create a standard account for them, in this way, they will not have the privilege to create a new user account.

    Create a user account

If you don't want to give them access to the internet, then you can use the parental control.

    Set up Parental controls (Vista)

    Hope that helps.

  • Strategies for system administrator prevents the installation of spell check software

I am installing a French (antidote) spelling checker and the message I get is: the system administrator policies preventing the installation of this software. I am the only person who uses this computer and I need to change the settings to control my computer.

    Hi Michel,.

    1. you are trying to install the French spelling checker software first?

If you had already installed the software in the past, then we recommend to uninstall the components available in the software and then try to install the software. To do this, try the following steps:

    Step 1: Removing software
see How to change or remove a program in Windows XP .
    b. Once you have deleted the software, restart the computer.

    Step 2: Install the software
    a. right click on the file to install software, click Run as.
    b. Select administrator, and then click ok to continue the installation.
    c. Once you have installed the software, restart the computer.

Here is the procedure to change the default path for the installation of software on Vista:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/03/23/how-to-change-default-windows-installation-path-to-your-desired-path/.  In this case, you would choose a location on the C: drive (maybe C:\Program Files if it is still there - or create this folder if it is not).  Make a new folder in the directory root - don't bury it in another folder or even deeper.
