How to re - install Windows 7, when I don't have an installation disc

I have a netbook running Windows 7, Sony that gives warnings of imminent drive failure S.M.A.R.T.. My question is, if I replace the hard drive, how to re - install the OS that I only have a repair on the old disk partition? The drive is still readable, is there a way to copy it to the new drive (maybe by copying them to an external USB drive). I have the key to license available for re - activate.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, if the HD is still functional, capable of error free reads and writes, you can attach a new HD in a USB enclosure and clone the drive. Download the appropriate software on the web site of the manufacturer of the car inside. Otherwise, the software is available from 3 parties. E.g. Acronis True Image (not free).

You describe the Sony as a netbook, so I guess it doesn't have a CD or DVD drive. To use suggestions from Andre Da Costa, you may have to use a plug-in DVD USB drive.  If you do, you can place the original HD in a USB enclosure to copy files from the user to the new drive. You will have to reinstall applications from whatever media you have.

  • How can I reinstall windows vista, when I don't have the disc to ony my license on the side of the computer key

I need to make an own reformatting and installing windows Vista on my Dell Inspiron C521 pc.  Restore dell to original factory option does not work.  Windows has no option to create a recovery disc - am unble to locate the recdisc.exe and possess no original discs as windows came pre-installed, when I brought the machine license key only 25 digits

You call Dell Support and request a set of recovery disks. The cost is minmal and worth it.

Also, ask to speak to a technician. See if the technology can teach you how to access the recovery Partition.

Del has installed the partition, they know how to use it.

How to get Vista recovery Media and/or to use the Vista recovery Partition on your computer.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

You can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their way of doing recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • On Windows 7, 1334 of the error message when you try to repair XI Acrobat Standard. The software was already installed on my computer so I don't have the installation disc.   Can you please help?

I have a laptop Windows 7 with Acrobat installed Standard XI.    The program was already installed on my laptop, so I don't have the installation disc.    I'm getting error 1334 and Error 1311 indicating the "file Source not found."    Do you have recommendations for repair?     As a reminder, the software was already installed on my computer so I don't have the installation disc.    Thank you.

MST can be downloaded from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html, but you may have problems depending on the operating system and if you have a volume license or upgrade. If the download works for you, don't forget to make a backup on another medium for the future.

I bought a laptop with a windows xp pro, I have the serial number, but I don't have the installation disc. How can I know which version I need? SP3 has not worked... at the moment I am testing SP1

The serial number of the computer has nothing to do with the product key for Windows.

What happened when you tried to install Xp with sp3? If you do not have the original for the computer that you use to install Windows?

You can try to contact the manufacturer of the computer who may be able to provide the recovery disc. The disks are usually under $ 20.

I'm sorry, but you will need a Windows 9 x / ME drive to provide during the XP installation from the XP disc is a version upgrade. There is no way around that. See if you can find a friend with an older operating system disk (not a recovery disk) to support qualification. Otherwise, you would need to buy the full version (not upgrade) of XP to install on the computer. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

    Hello Maggie,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

I also appreciate the fact that you want to install Windows on a new hard drive.

You can install Windows using the steps described in this article and check if it helps.
    Reference:
How to perform a new installation of Windows
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/clean-install

You can create the media to install Windows from this link:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

I hope that you have the Windows product key for activation .

    Important notes:
BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

I recommend strongly to backup all your important files and folders on an external storage device before performing any type of OS, repair, upgrade or clean install.

    I hope this information helps.

Please let us know if you need more help.

  • I recently installed Windows 7 32-bit on a PC. It won't start I don't have the installation disc in the drive. Why?

It is a legitimate Windows 7 PRO 32-bit installation disk with a single certificate. It is activated when I installed so nothing wrong with that.

I did a clean install and all updates from end to end so that the disc remained in the disk... so I don't think about her. After it has been completely updated and I did I pulled out the disc so that it wouldn't get damaged or stuck when I moved the tower. When I brought the computer to my friend, it wouldn't start. The PC said something to the effect of the DISKETTE of STARTING NO. REPLACE AND STRIKE ANY KEY TO CONTINUE. (This is not verbatim).

After playing with him for a few minutes, I had a thought... I put in the installation CD and allowed him to go beyond the option 'PRESS ANY KEY to BOOT FROM CD or DVD... "and it booted right up!

I've tested this with multiple configurations of BIOS - and even going up to strip the PC down to a hard drive, CD drive and any connected external - and this IS the reason why it does not start.

Why do I need the disc in the boot drive to a VALID and INSTALLED Windows 7 version?
