• Portege 3500 - how to reinstall XP?

  I have a problem with my portege 3500.

  The computer became very slow, it has never been formatted, and I suspect this years of highlights of program accumulated and parts is originally that it runs slowly. The original supplied with the computer disks were lost and even if I had this model does not have to put in a CD player.   The Toshiba recovery disc can t be downloaded. It s only comes with your laptop. Only chance is in touch with an authorized service provider. Maybe they have such a disc

  If this is not the case, your only chance is using a Microsoft XP disk. You can perform an installation without CD/DVD drive, if you copy the disk XP i386 folder on your HARD drive. Then start the winnt.exe file to start the installation of XP.

  You can get in trouble with your device drivers.  Go to Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  Check for the blu ray devie and make sure it says that it is a blu ray devie drive (if it does not say blu ray in the description it likely somehow is not recognizing that it is a device of blu ray and pilots could be the answer). If you need to get the drivers (and you need to do at least for blu - ray device even if you installed from the disc supplied with the deivice - ago maybe more recent updates available for this device and your version of Vista and all the others you have time to do - they can help way beyond simply solve this problem) leave the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html.

  It is not a Vista problem from your description.  It looks like a driver problem devixe, some missing software or firmware that is necessary to make the camera to recognize blu ray discs, or a problem with the devicce himself.  You have another computer, you can connect to see if you can get it to work on this computer (or you can connect directly to your TV if it is an option).  If Yes, we know devixe works and it is something on the laptop that is at the origin of the problem.  Have you confirmed that this device is compatible with your version of Vista in the http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-vista/default.aspxVista Compatibility Center?

  Another problem can be the software you use to play the movie - it cannot recognize or be able or read blu ray discs (or it can be so slow that you give before there actually loading times as I read that some may take a matter of several minutes before start).  What software you are using (name and version)?

  Have you tried to contact the Helpdesk of brush head to see if they can help?  Because it's brand new, they should be happy to help you set up and work with you to resolve the problem with it being unable to recognize blu ray discs.  They met perhaps this situaton several times and have a solution easy availalble.  If the above does not work I give them a call and help you get them.  Again, I know not what provider, you must contact (but it it came with the machine, I think you deal with HP and what I read there is no solution available yet but things may have changed since that was sent)- but try both of them (one is bound to be willing and able to help you).

  I bought a reader of external cd for my portege 3500.
  This is the original toshiba drive (connectet via a pcmcia 32-bit card and bootable)
  I run WindowsXP Tablett Edition on the tablet.

  When I plug the device in the slot pcmcia, nothing happens. (Windows Device Manager indicates also nothing new)
  Should I have all the drivers to use pcmcia devices or do I have to change something in the bios?

  The reader is 100% working, I tested it with another laptop.

  Look in the BIOS for a setting that allows you to switch between <->CardBus PCMCIA mode.

  Ensure that the slots are running ok in Device Manager.

  The fact is that not all external CD/DVD drives are supported for the start.
  You need an individual. As far as I know the compatible is a PX1055E-1NST.
  But this device only comes with a 32-bit cardbus card. This card will be recognized only in the Windows operating system.
  You need a 16-bit cardbus card. The Bios can recognize this card and you can boot from the external drive.

  AFAIK Portege 3500 was equipped with the 40 GB IDE HDD.
  This is why you must use an IDE hard drives (not SATA).

  Now, it would be important to know what max HD size could be compatible;
  If the laptop supports 40 GB I think a 60 GB HARD drive might work too.

  I think that you should just google for some 40 GB, 60 GB hard drives, that supports the IDE!

• Portege 3500 - change HARD drive and deal with overheating CPU

  I recently bought a Portege 3500 without any support of discs etc. It doesn't have a CD or a floppy disk. It has 2 problems, I want to trouble.
  (a) HARD drive is obviously out because it is by clicking on me, and it presents a permanent red section during defragmentation.
  (b) the fans are at full power all the time, and the CPU is running slowly.

  (a) I had a new HARD drive that I reformatted on other laptops. I put a base Windows XP on this HARD drive and uploaded on my external that I attach to the Portege. I used "transfer... Assistant "to transfer files, folders, and settings to the new HARD drive but I don't know how to install the old Windows XP OS Tablet it." I have the product key of Microsoft for the operating system. Any suggestions would be helpful.

  (b) I believe that the transfer of heat from the CPU on the radiator is a failure, causing the processor to hot and therefore slows down. I already solved the same problem with a Dell by coating the top of the CPU with Artic Silver 5 paste. I cannot, however to get the CPU in the same Portege so I removed all the screws down. Does anyone know how to split the case without causing damage?

  (a) Unfortunately, but I don t really know how you want to install the operating system without using the recovery CD or the windows CD.

  (b) on the Portégé, you should find the power saver utility. This utility allows you to change the different modes of cooling and processing speed.
  In my opinion, you should also check if the fans are clean. Especially the dust and debris inside of the laptop is responsible for cooling not properly of the CPU and other parts.

  I think that you have updated the BIOS with the wrong procedure.
  Have you checked the BIOS update document?

  In any case, the fault of system32 has nothing to do with the BIOS and I don t understand why you started the update of the BIOS.

  The Portege 3500 does not support an internal hard drive, and so if you want to install the operating system, you must use a compatible external PC card reader.
  I assume you are using this player to start.

  If some error messages appear during the installation, you must first format the whole HARD drive and delete all partitions and then try again to boot from the recovery CD!
