How to reconnect to a personal media drive Bay

It was very stupid of me but I unplugged the cables for my Personal Media Drive Bay when I tried to remove the hard drive for maintenance.  I didn't really attention to where the white cable that looks like an audio connector is gone.  After his return from the hard drive, I can't find the connector of the personal media drive Bay.  If I had to install the external drive, I would use a USB port to connect the player to the computer, but I don't know where this subject is on the motherboard.  I searched the internet for help entered empty.  Help, please!

On your motherboard, you should see a connector with 2 rows of pins together. One of the lines is missing in a hairpin bend on the left side.

Can someone explain why HP abandoned the possibility of a drive Bay of personal media on their desktops? I have one on my desk, less than three years and I am totally satisfied. Were there any probems with them?

    WDS,

IMHO the PMD has been made obsolete by the absence of need and the difference in speed.

The PMD is a USB 2.0 and with larger internal hard drives (1 t - 3 t) and now available speeds (Sata300-600), the old need PMD became useless.

Latest motherboards have ESata and USB3.0 external options

  • Help please: Personal Media Drive Installation

Hello to all on the Forum HP... I was hoping I could get help regarding installation a HP Personal Media Drive in my desktop HP Pavilion m7480n computer... I am a newbie and considered average at best, with regard to my knowledge with computers... So, I was hoping that someone could possibly provide me with a link, or anything else... With step by step instructions... Photos included would be a bonus... lol... lol... I'll give you more information regarding the HP Personal Media Drive that I have below... Thank everyone once more in advance for their time and patience... Have a great day everyone.

    HP Personal Media Drive:

    -Model # hd5000s

    -Manufacturer RF863AA

    Parts supplied:

    -Adapter with power cord

-6 USB 2.0 certified Interface cable

    Hi Nacster,

It is very possible that the previous owner disconnected the cables. Here is an document (and video) player showing how to replace or add a hard HP. In it, you will see how the Bay of the PMD is connected the hard drive cage.

It might even be that the internal USB cable is detached from the motherboard.

I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

  • HP Personal Media Drive - cannot get support

    Hello

I tried to look for a "soft" or etc. but has not found category. I hope that I write to the rgiht category.

I have a HP Personal Media Drive that I am attemptign to solve problems

    hd0000

    part # rf863aa

    500 GB capacity

The problem I have is when I connect the drive to the system, it says device not recognized USB. However, he keeps making connection/disconnection noise notise. Bing bing, do. Bing bing, do. He did this continuously until I have unplug the USB cord or power.

    I tried the following

I have tried 3 different PCs

I have tried 2 different cables

tried it on windows 7 as well as windows 8

I feel that it is a real problem with the drive itself. I tried disk management, but I know that because this prevents the disconnect/reconnect the disk and not can not connect successfully, it seems like there may be a problem of internal material with the reader.

My major problem is to get to this issue. Today I have the support of google # and looking for where to get help. I found this page

    Does not help very much

    I called this number

    1-800-474-6836 (1-800 HP INVENT)

I now at calle 4 times. I get a call centre in India. They tell me that I need to talk to the accessories Department.

I had transferred there and waited 20 minutes and hung up. So I called again. Once again, they me transferred.

I tried 35 + minutes, had somone on the phone. After spending 15 minutes to get all the part numbers, etc serial numbers - it was obvious that they then had no idea what to do, they still have me once I was in the bad service I was calling not to the United States and Canada.

They me transferred again and I was transferred to a number of key busy/false.

I called back once again, even once said that I needed to be transferred... not too impressed at this point.

Nobody has been able to give me the # direct I should call either. I'm really frusterated. Help, please?

This device has an external power supply, I would first of all that. Resist the ear and check the that continuous rotation.

If it's running, plug the USB to a rear port. It may take 5 minutes to initialize. If you hear click (s) and then no rotation continues, it's probably in bricks/dead.  HP offers no repair service out-of-warranty units. (1 year).

Disassembly (different flavors for different design cases). Adapter for the device.

  • Unable to access HP Personal Media Drive in Windows 7

My wife desktop PC has failed.  I need to access the data on the HP Personal Media Drive and it attached via the USB port on my Windows 7 laptop.  However, the drive is not recognized and Windows says that there is a driver error.  However (a) according to HP, there is no Win7 drivers for this drive.  (b) according to Microsoft, the drive is compatible with Windows 7?  How the hell can I access this disk?

    Click on 'start '.

In the search bar, type 'Computer management' (without the quotes). Click on the program icon that shows up (should be at the top of local search results).

Search in the left pane of the window 'disk management '. If you don't see it, click the arrow to the left of "storage".
Look for a drive that is not titled "allocated." If you see one, check to see if it is the same size as your Media Player. (A 1 TB drive will show as Go 931,51, etc..)
Right-click on the unallocated disk, then click on 'Create a Simple Drive'
Go through the wizard using the default settings. When the screen where you can name the disc, name 'HP Media Drive' (or whatever you want).
Once the wizard is completed, wait a few minutes while the disc formats. Then open 'My computer' and the drive will be displayed.
Right-click on the icon, then click on "Create shortcut" If you have a desktop icon to access the drive.
  • HP Personal Media Drive 1 TB

Since 2009, I used the HP Personal Media drive on my desktop PC HP Pavilion a6152n with no problems. I was using Vista without any problems.  My computer has 6 usb ports and they all worked like a charm.  I used media player for all my backups, smartphone and computer.  A few days ago, I've upgraded to windows 7 and were not able to use my media player since.  My computer will recognize the usb ports when forced, but lists the media as unknown device player when he admits to all.  I tried to update the driver without result.  I uninstalled the device, disabled the device, tried to assign a letter to the reader all to no success. I'm finally to the point that when I plug the drive on the computer, the computer tells me that I have to format the drive to use it.  The drive has been formatted originally under Vista.  I'm afraid that if I format it now, I'll lose all my files.  Help, please.  I point out that I took the car to work and this computer using XP recognizes the drive media and actually allowed me to open the files.  The computer at work is about 10 years old and very basic, no dvd drive, etc...  I also get code 43 when you try to update the drivers.   Thank you.

    make the number of days!

    Hello

Thank you very much!  My computer now recognizes the PMD.  I was able to open some files, and they seem to be OK.  Once again thank you.

  • Problem with my Personal Media Drive hd1600

    Hello

I have a problem with my HD1600 Personal Media Drive.

After formatting, Windows 7 can not recognize it. Only the power of the blue light is on

in the Hp website, I can not find the driver software

    Please help me

    Thank you

As is the case, what I would do then is to format the drive outside of the Windows environment.  I like to use a Linux on CD or GParted on CD.  Unplug your hard drive after the CD and boot from the CD that you did.  With your hard drive disconnected, there is no chance of accitentally choose the wrong drive and the PC will work fine to either that of the CD.  Format the connected USB HD1600 Personal Media Drive everything using one of the version of the Linux CD in the NTFS format.  If it is completed, the disc is OK and you should be good to go.

  • Personal Media Drive (HDD) is not recognized in HP xb4 Docking Station laptop with HDX 18i

    Hello:

This is my first post since obtaining these three pieces of equipment.

a lot of problems with my new laptop and separate hard drive docking station.

But this one is the most annoying:

my HP Personal Media Drive HD10000x slips into a Bay (specifically for these players) on my xb4 docking station.

Connected to the docking station is my laptop, a HDX18.

Everything works very well between the laptop and docking station, except the HARD drive: it lights not or anything when you slide into the dock media Bay.

This is supposed to be 'hot-swapable' and everything, but it is just dead.    It's new, but I hate to send it back (at my expense) if there is another problem here.

    If someone has encountered this?

    Help, please!

    Thank you

You need to connect the power adapter to the personal media player - at the back of the dock XB4, next to where sits the personal media player.  So there are two adapters CA / CC plugged into the XB4.

  • Pocket Media Drive bay for e9290f

I recently bought a new HP Pavilion Elite e9290f and is surprised that, among the best models, he had no drive for the HP Pocket Media Drive Bay.  I tried to find where I can buy the Pocket media drive Bay so that I can install (retro - fit) it in my office so I could slide the pocket of 500Gb drive that I bought for inside. Currently, I use a very little available USB external port to activate the reader, as well as having to allocate precious office for the unit space. Is that what someone is selling the drive Bay?  I tried to find it in the shop online parts HP nothing is done.  Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot for your answer.  My computer takes the door Assembly #503156 - ZH1 and the Assembly Pocket Media Drive bay #505092-001, and I just got their share of a corporation in California.  I'll mark my query as "resolved". now but thanks again en your interest.

  • Support of Pocket media drive Bay

I have a Presario SR5262NX with an empty optical drive Bay, and a floppy drive Bay empty.  I also have a media player Pocket 160MO I use for backups.  I would get a Pocket Media support/adapter for the bay floppy drive so that I can put my Pocket Media drive in it and leave, rather than have it cluttering up my desk.  But I wasn't able to locate such a thing in the HP store or anywhere online.  I think that HP could sell such a thing, but maybe not.  I'm looking for something that does not exist, or just look in the wrong places?

    Call HP parts. (800) 227-8164

You can ask them if it works with Compaq Presarios.

  • HP Personal Media Drive and Win 7

I just upgraded my HP computer elite e9120y from vista to windows 7. Everything went well until I tried to use the personal media player in the Bay of the computer.  The computer recognizes the drive and installed the driver.  The player will start to work, but after about 30 seconds, it freezes.  The power light is still on, but it is no longer read or write data. Using the computer increases by about 10% to 70% and stays there. After the hunt, the use is the same, in the Task Manager, nothing is shown that the use of the CPU.  Before the upgrade, the drive worked fine with any of these problems.  I tried to uninstall the USB ports and restart to have reinstalled them, also tried to remove the drive from the computer and reinstall the readers. I still have the same problem.  It will work for awhile, then freezing, uses CPU jumps.          If I try the drive with the external power supply and another USB port, it works normally. Can anyone help?   Thank you

If you use the software that came with the driver (it might come through via the upgrade?), try to uninstall or disable and simply let Windows 7 use as Plug-and-Play. If I look at HP shopping it does not list the PMD as being compatible with Windows 7, but to me it would just be the software on the CD-ROM supplied with the player. Not the plug-and-play hardware.

If it's not that, and it's hardware related... the Bay is a big USB plug that connects to the USB headers on the mobo. For me, it tells me that something funky is listed at this place of specific header. Normally, I'd just use system restore to go back when it worked good... in this case, which might be ways to recover and upgrade again without any USB device attached... not funny.

You can try to disconnect the internal cable from the drive to the mobo Bay, restart, connect with the external cable, safely remove, close, reconnect the internal cable to the mobo header, insert the drive into the Bay, turning on.

  • Power of Personal Media Drive power cable

Since I bought my computer, I got the personal media player that comes with it plugged into the Bay. I wish I could plug it in to the usual with a supply cable and USB power. I have the box AC adapter which plugs into the drive, but the cable that plugs into the box has become lost. I get it, I don't know what it is that I have a box with many cables that I have collected over the years and it might be one of the few. I've lost hard drives in the past due to bad power connection and I was hoping that someone would be able to tell me which cable I need.

The personal media player came with my HP Media Center m7260.uk desktop PC and the power supply of the housing has the following number: 1200-B206

All but one of the cables I said 10 a on them. One who is different to 16 has on it. In fact, I think it could be this one, but as says the entry in box of 100-240V 1 has one of these cables would be perfectly safe to use? As I said, after blowing hard drives in the past to connect the wrong adapter, I'd rather be safe than sorry all the help on this would be really appreciated. Thank you.

I would say all power cable that corresponds to the adapter would be OK. The current absorbed by the adapter will be very low. The indique.65 mine has max. As long as the cord tension designed for your area, you will be OK.
