How to: recover disk space by removing the updates of windows installation files

Original title : Software updates to XP Pro do take the disk space that can be reclaimed by removing downloaded files?

I want to recover disk space which can have useless files.  Once an update is installed, the downloaded file can be deleted and if so, where they are on my drive?

Please note this is only for Windows XP and is not on Vista or Windows 7

Folders that have uninstall as part of the name (for example $NtUninstallKB282010$ who reside in C:\windows (hidden files) are window Hot difficulty updating folders/files) can be removed safely (providing ever, you wish to uninstall the updates). I recommend you leave these records for a period of at least one month to make sure that the update works correctly.

These updates can be removed individually or together. To learn more about the update/s go on:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/xxxxxx
NB: XXXXXX = the actual number, not to mention the "Q" or "Ko."

Once you have removed the uninstall folders/files, then go to control panel, add/remove programs. Select the title of the corresponding Windows fix on the folder/file of the patch you just deleted, and select Delete. You will get a Windows error. This is because you deleted the uninstall folder/files. Simply choose OK and the entry will be removed from the Add/Remove Programs list.

When I compact my disk space, it deletes all previous 6 months emails in the trash. He's never done this before and has since a few months I do not more. all compact space solutions without losing everything?

Compaction doesn't send your mail in the trash. Those are backup files in case something like this happens.

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :

    Recovery methods:

If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:

    And see:

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

The total space in my HD is currently 434GB although it should be 500 GB! Anyone know how to recover my space 65GB?

See below for my disk utility:

    Hello waynetay,

Thank you for being part of the community of Apple!

Looks like you want to recover the hard disk space that has been used by Bootcamp.  I know how critical disk hard space is, as I understand it want to access it.

The Boot Camp Assistant should have added space on the side of Mac OS X from the hard drive when it has been used to remove Windows.  Since that didn't happen, you need to back up the system, and then erase the hard drive, then restore the backup.

First, back up the computer.  Your computer has software called Time Machine.  It is a fantastic software for backing up your computer.  Information on how to use Time Machine is available here:

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.

Once you have the backup, you must erase the drive and then restore the backup Time Machine.

You can use these measures to erase files on your startup drive and install a fresh copy of OS X:

    1. Before you begin, make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet.
    2. Restart your Mac. Immediately hold down the command (⌘) keys and R after having heard the startup sound to boot into OS X Recovery.
    3. When the recovery window, select disk utility, then click on continue.
    4. Select the volume name back from your startup disk in the left side of the disk utility window, then click Delete.
    5. If you want to erase the disc safely, click Security Options. Select an erasing method, and then click OK.
    6. On the Format menu, choose Mac OS extended (journaled). Type a name for your drive, and then click clear.
    7. After that the drive is deleted, close the disk utility window.
    8. If you are not connected to the Internet, select a network in the Wi-Fi menu.
    9. Select the option to reinstall OS X.
    10. Click on continue and follow the instructions on the screen to reinstall OS X.

Once OS X installation is complete, you should have the option to restore from a backup Time Machine in the first installation of OS X.  Choose this option, and the computer will restore everything that was on it before it has been removed.  More information can be found here:

  • Firefox thinks that I don't have enough disk space and cancels the download when it is almost finished.

So, recently, I was downloading a pretty huge file for a game (4.5 gigabytes), and it was almost over, when an error emerged, saying there wasn't enough disk space for Firefox to download the file. At the time, I had just enough disk space to download the file (Yes, I checked and made sure). Download became unresumable, and I was incredibly annoyed to find that I had to download it again, because my download speed is not very good at all. I put in the night and noted where he stopped, and in the morning, when I checked it, he stopped at the EXACT SAME place, which is at about 4.1/4.5 GB. I did a lot more room since then and I am downloading for the third time now. If this happens again, how can I solve this problem? Thank you.
In addition, it is a .dat file. I don't know if this has an impact any on what can cause this, but if anyone knows anything, please let me know.

Hello, please make sure, that you do not save the file on a volume formatted with the FAT32 file system, because it cannot store files larger than 4 GB...

  • Not enough disk space to convert the iPhoto photo library

My wife iPhoto library has about 9 500 photos. She has a MacBook Air, which has limited hard disk space, so we put his iPhoto library on a SD card (which is still in its SD slot). We decided to convert the iPhone photo library. When the process is started, it happens about 4% on the progress bar when a popup said that there is not enough disk space to perform the task (said to 72GO). How can I complete this process? She wants to ensure its iPhone and iPad Air can all share all the photos via iCloud. Can I put the library of Photos on the SD card too? Once the synchronization of library of Photos with iCloud, not all large digital images disappear from MacBook Air and only a miniature remain (like on the iPhone and the iPad)?

I decided to try the procedure on my original post on my MacBook Pro.

I copied the Library.photoslibrary Photos of my MBP to an external hard drive connected to my MBP.

I did an "Option" + then click on 'Photos' selected the "Library.photoslibrary Photos" on my external hard drive. This produces the following pop-up message:

"This library contains items to download from iCloud photo library".

"To download the complete library, delete the incomplete elements, then set this library as the library of the system preferences and activate iCloud photo library. This will disable iCloud photo library on other libraries. »

"Delete the incomplete items" or "quit".

I clicked on "Quit" and posted above.

  • In time real PXI-1031 does more work with labview. "Not enough disk space to perform the backup.

The labview real-time project was working until a few weeks ago and the only error that is displayed on the PXI is this error message.

"NEITHER Configuration Manager: not enough disk space for the backup" everything before that looks like it starts very well. Recently, I removed the hard drive and remove the 4 GB network log file because it seemed to me that a file of 4 GB on a fat32 file system was probably the cause of the problem. After that it the project worked when I tested it, but others in my lab said it was broken again the next day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated because I don't know all that equipment.

I found that I had "reset IP" set to "yes" in the bios that seemed to be causing my problem because I changed it to no and it seems to work perfectly now. Sorry that it took so much time to understand and I feel like a fool.

  • Error message, not enough of disk space to run the defragmentation

Cleaning disc already used and removed unused programs.  Still get popups that say "disc not enough disk space for number of updates available" "not enough disk space to run defrag" "not enough disk space to run the system restore" I'm positive, I have more than 200 MB of free space on c:, (if updates are somewhere on my computer and using all the space?)  This xp computer is not much used, and certainly didn't have the amount of used space?

Anyone know where is the problem?

None of this has worked.  What has worked is that I discovered that Norton Antivirus used up to 57% of my c drive.  Entered their downloads of programs and the program downloaded 2012, which automatically deleated the old Norton application.  Apparently, whenever the old application done an update to download, it would wipe out not at the same time old files is no longer needed.

in any case, I now 57% free space.

    Thank you

  • How to allocate disk space for vCenter server logs

    Hello

I plan to level 4.1 to 5.5 U2d vCenter on the customer site. One of the conditions set out in the vSphere upgrade guide is:

"In vCenter Server 5.x, the default size for vCenter Server connects is larger than in vCenter Server 4.x. make sure that the disk space allocated for the log folder is sufficient for this increase 450MB."

My question is how to allocate disk space for the log file and where can I find the disk space allotted to file papers to vCenter 4.1 existing?

Just see the free space on the partition where the vCenter server logs are stored. If it is insufficient, increase the size of the virtual disk and then increase the file system to the guest OS.

  • How to increase disk space without guest operating system reinstallation

    Hello

I take advantage of VMWARE with linux host and vista 64 comments, but I encountered a problem, running out of disk space.

During the installation of VISTA, I chose 25 GB of disk space, as recommneded by IG of installation).

    Now I need more space.

According to the virtual disk manager, I did

    VMware-vdiskmanager mydisk.vmdk 40 GB - x

increase to 40 GB. It seemed to work, as I received a message,

    "Disk expansion completed successfully."

Now "The VM setting" windows says HD 40 GB. But internally under VISTA, disk space is always 25 GB. In fact, the size of disk file (view on the side of linux) is only 22 GB. No idea how to increase disk space. He must start from the installation, but it's a little painful.

    Thank you.

If the guest is Vista or Windows 2008, then you should be able to extend the partition while the system is running.

Take a look at this article: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial133.html

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 won't let you do that, while the disk is online.  Vista and Windows 2008 changed things.

For versions of Windows Vista/2008, look for the Dell ExtPart.exe utility, as it will do the job for you.

    See you soon,.
