  Thank you.  I'll do it and change my Windows Update settings.  BUT, FYI, in an act even more incredible, the same night I posted my question here, my computer was said upload, and I was still in place at 03:00 (when Windows is set to d/l and install updates).  I went to the kitchen for a bit and returned to my computer to find a countdown - he downloaded updates and "will re-start in 7 minutes" or so and counting down...   For the CD/DVD drive problem, try the following steps.

  3. Insert the CD / DVD and check if it works very well.
   
  NOTE: There is no option to repair/reinstall Windows Media Player on Windows Vista.

Did not help, Astromenda is still there when I add a new tab.

  I'm going on the web and found Web sites on how to get rid of the Astromenda but they want to download me various adware cleaning tools, but I am reluctant to download anything at this point unless it is sanctioned by Mozilla Firefox.
