How to remove startup programs in "msconfig".

First of all, care. Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1, 64-bit.

I'm not having the problem to disable startup programs, but trying to remove them from the list available to a start-up program. Some of these programs (the executable file of the command and its location) no longer exist on my system. Is there a way to remove these items in the startup list, and if so, how?

Unfortunately the only real way to do this is through the registry editor.

If you look at the line for the entry to remove it will track the path of the registry which organizes the statement. You need access to this location and delete the entry.

As always sophisticated editing that the registry should be done with caution and a backup taken 1. If you are not sure then do not.

There is a caveat. If you deleted the line (not checked it) then it will not be there. In order to stop this loading MsConfig moves the entry to an inactive backup key. In order to find the location, you will need to make the current line.

Because it has been moved it not treated during startup so other than to try to keep well stored, there is no specific does delete the line. Indeed, if the line points to a nonexistent file or a path then there no same effect if left. Registry of treatment so much more optimized in Windows 7 and entered orphan have no measurable effect on boot time. Delays of timeout that occurred were resolved.

    (Start-> Run-> "msconfig")

to toggle the elements that run at startup... but especially for diagnostic purposes.

A better way is to download the freeware from Microsoft "AutoRuns".  When you run it, it will show a list of items that run at startup and allow you to uncheck all that you desire.

First of all, note that you should be in * all * the programs that start automatically, not only with those who are in the system tray. Not all the programs auto-start manifesting by an icon in the status bar.

On each program, you don't want to automatically start, check its Options to see if she has the choice to not start (make sure that you actually choose to not run, not simply a "don't display the icon" option). Many can easily and better be arrested like that. If this does not work, run MSCONFIG from the start. Run the line and on the Startup tab, uncheck the programs that you do not want to automatically start.

However, if I were you, I wouldn't do this just for the purpose of the minimum number of running programs. Despite what a lot of people tell you, you should be concerned, not with the way * a lot * of these programs you run, but * that *. Some of them can seriously affect the performance, but others have no effect on performance.

Don't stop all programs to run willy-nilly. What you need to do is to determine what each program is that its value is for you and what the performance cost is running all the time. You can try searching the Internet and ask questions about the details here.

Once you have this information, you can make a smart informed decision on what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.

    Hello J.Carlson

If you want to remove inactive entries in msconfig, you must modify the registry.

Be very careful if you decide to do.

Back up the registry before making any changes.

    Start/run and type

    Regedit

    Ok

    When Open regedit

    File/export.

Give it a name will recognize you again and save it on the hard drive

    Then navigate to the

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder.

You'll find a subkey for each disabled item.

Delete only entries for the mobility programmes

    And also

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.

In the right pane, delete the value of MSConfig.
