How to remove the Yahoo! search engine

I have two yahoo search engines, appearing in the search box menu. One is Yahoo and the other is Yahoo! (with the brand of the explanation). It seems that Yahoo! has hijacked my browser as I am unable to remove it by using the search engine option to manage. Although it seems to be removed, when I close Firefox, I get a message indicating that a blocked program its withdrawal. Please tell me what I need to do to remove this fake search engine as it redirects me to what seems to be legitimate pages Yahoo saying the words I never typed cannot be found. Interestingly, redirects do not occur for all the sites I visit.

Thank you, Tony

Use most or all of the programs listed. Each works differently.
If a program forgets something, another can catch it.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox can be a result of malware installed on your computer, you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to search for malicious software that work with your existing anti-virus software:

  • How can I stop Firefox to redirect me to the Yahoo search engine

When I try to go to the official site for ATF Cleaner, Firefox redirects me to the Yahoo search engine.
I have removed all references to Yahoo in my registry and searched all the user for any reference to Yahoo profiles. I am running Firefox version 29.0.1 on Windows XP.

It is also possible that this problem is due to an add-on, maybe one who snuck on your system as part of a bundle.

In the case where one of your extensions is concerned, could test the page Firefox Safe Mode? It is a standard diagnostic tool to disable some advanced features of Firefox and extensions. More info: questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Mode safe mode using either:

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > restart with disabled modules
    • Help menu > restart with disabled modules

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still works

After stops in Firefox, a small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not reset).

    Any difference?

  • Please tell me exactly how to remove the AVG search function

Please tell me exactly how to remove the AVG search function

edited by a moderator for clarity

You need not repeat dozens of times or use profanity to get help.

    (1) disable all non-essential or unrecognized extensions on this tab. Don't know what it does? When in doubt, turn off:

Firefox orange (or the Tools menu) button > addons > Extensions category

Use the links above a disabled extension to restart Firefox if some seem to.

    (2) restore your Google search engine:

    https://addons.Mozilla.org/en-us/Firefox/addon/SearchReset/

    (3) check a user.js file (before the release of Firefox, otherwise the parameters in this file can cancel your cleaning) as described in this article: How to fix preferences that will not save.

    (4) If AVG search took over your page to the new tab (Ctrl + t), which changes as follows:

    (A) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (B) in the filter box, type or paste newtab and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    (C) double-click the preference browser.newtab.url and enter the desired value for your favorite page:

thumbnails (i) (default) Page = > subject: newtab

(ii) blank tab = > subject: empty

Firefox homepage integrated (iii) = > topic: welcome

(iv) any other page = > full URL of the page

IMPORTANT: If you have AVG software in your Windows Control Panel, you need to remove it.

  • I tried all of your corrections but after 2-3 reboots home past to the yahoo search engine - I'm fed up and let Firefox if no solution

I've followed all the patches on your chatline:
At different times, I turned off the graphics accelerator, I cut all add-ons, refreshed firefox, went in firefox safe mode, but even though firefox is returned to normal, after 2-3 restarts if he returned showing on my home page yahoo search engine. I have my own homepage written in HTML and use it on all my browsers for many years. I downloaded Firefox on the Mozilla site (twice) and have never downloaded from a Yahoo site sponsored. I never asked to have Yahoo as my search engine and do not want. I'm getting harder and more fed up with the situation, and if no permanent solution can be found, so I'll let Firefox (after many years of use). Please find a solution!

Thanks to all who offered a solution to my problem, but although some suggestions were given a temporary solution, the problem is back after a short time.
However, I think that I have now found the solution:
Although a spybot check did not find a problem, I searched "Files and folders" in the control panel and found 2 entries for 'the browser extensions' and 'search protection' of a company called "SPIGOT.COM".
I uninstalled both of these applications and it seems completely solved the problem, even after several reboots and cold starts.
I don't know who is this company, have never seen before and never knowingly downloaded something on their part or any partner site.
    So there you have it!
I hope this helps someone else with the same problem.
    Pete.

  • How to add the custom search engine?

    Hello
Firefox is a great browser especially for those who care about freedom and privacy. I would like to know why it is not possible to specify the custom search engine that you were able to do in the latest version of Firefox. I want to use the search engine google with https://search.disconnect.me/ which offers the possibility of anonymous research. I know that there is a plugin https://disconnect.me/search, but is not very comfortable with respect to the standard search bar. Thank you

I read the solution proposed here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-search-bar-firefox-and-manage-search-engines#w_add-a-search-engine but in 36 of Firefox does not work

TypeError message probably explains why you could not add the page of Mycroft search engine initially.

When I search this exact error in Google, only that rolled up from July 2013:

As long as the 'Integration of office of Unity 2.4.6' plugin is enabled I couldn't add to Firefox search engines.
    https://bugs.Launchpad.NET/Ubuntu/+source/unity-Firefox-extension/+bug/1202383

Note: this option is not a Plugin, this is an Extension and available on the page Add-ons with other extensions.

  • I would like to know how to remove the Yahoo logo in the upper right corner of the last page of the version of the browser?

I just upgraded to ver. 18.0 if there isn't a way to remove the Yahoo logo please direct me to re - install the latest previous version.
    Thank you.

The Yahoo logo is just part of the customizable themes in Firefox. Go to the Firefox menu, select Add-ons, then select the appearance tab. Select the theme that you want, or select 'Remove' to get rid of the Yahoo theme. There should be a default theme in the list. You can also go the site of Mozilla Firefox and download other themes, or even create your own.

  • How to remove the Babylon Search bar?

I have a laptop HP Pavilion G6 and at some point, were able to be infected by the research of Babylon that HI-jacks of the engine your own preferences system and re - directs you to their search bar. The program is not found when you search in the control panel "uninstall a program". I think that it is a form of malware, because it has a little information when you Google, especially on how to remove Babylon Search bar.  I tried some of these but not luck. I also tried the system restore, once again without a bit of luck. I just hope that someone out there has had and managed to remove it successfully. In the affirmative, please let me know what I need to do.

  • How to change my Yahoo search engine to Google?

I updated a program I use called Any Video Converter, but accidentally, I missed one of the SMALL unchecking during installation that made Yahoo my main search of all my installed browsers. Hello

Which toolbar do you speak? Internet Explore toolbar or some other?

If it is internet explorer, the problem goes away if you run internet explore without modules, probably accessible from Start - (all the) Programs - Accessories - System Tools.

Hello r2c2nu, please see if you can solve the problem by running the search reset addon - he'll come back more often customizations make these adware programs in default firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

Since you also have the addon present apphat, who appears as being malicious, also run a full scan of your system with security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner!
