How to rename a tile on the start screen

I made the fallen on some sites from the browser on my screen, but on the start screen, it shows just the URL. I want to change the name of tile in the screen start something more easily identifiable. I have rename the link on Internet Explorer, but the name on the slab of the home screen shows again that the URL. Is it possible to rename a tile on the start screen (this is for the new windows 7).

Just right click on the icon that opens the bar downstairs. Click on "open file location".

That's it... very simple.

Which icon?   The options that you have found are limited to very few added items.   Try your method with the pinned favorites that I used for my example?

Simple, Yes.   But quirks to learn more.

  • How can I PIN Hotmail at the START screen in Windows 8?

I try to put as much USEFUL information on the screen of BOOT of Windows 8.  It is the screen that is displayed first after logging in Windows 8.  right now I have to go to the OFFICE to get to an email which is an extra step.  Any help is appreciated here.

You say you want actually slab on your Start that will lead you to your Hotmail page in Internet Explorer? If Yes:

To add a tile at the beginning who opens the Office of IE10 for Hotmail

    1. open IE10 Desktop then go to your Hotmail Inbox.

    2. click on Tools "cog" (top-right), and then select Add a Site to the start screen.

To add a tile at the beginning that opens modern IE10 (aka metro) to Hotmail

    1. open modern IE10 then go to your Hotmail Inbox.

2 right-click anywhere, and then click the PIN site icon (it looks like a bug - row at the bottom of the icons, 3rd from the right) and select Pin to Start.

The foregoing will not be live tiles.

The Microsoft Mail application can be used for Hotmail accounts and will have a live tile showing when the new mail arrived. Its features are far too limited for my taste.

Windows Live Mail is a free alternative that can be used with Hotmail. When pinned at the beginning, it will not be a live tile showing the incoming mail, however. Please see:

  • How to increase the number of lines of the App on the start screen

I use the Lenovo Yoga powered by Windows 8 RT. When I turn on my computer and it goes to the start screen, 3 rows of Apps are displayed. However, every now and then, for some reason, it displays 4 rows of Apps. I usually adjust my Apps to suit line 4 because I prefer that display but, it always changes back to 3 ranks.
I am sure I have the correct screen resolution and my computer sleeps 4 rows of apps on the home screen, but I'm just not how to do it. I have 4 rows Apps displayed permanently and not only sometimes by chance. I would really appreciate if someone could give me a step by step on how to do. Thank you.

This Friday, October 18, free to 8.1 Windows Update will be downloaded to your computer and your splash screen settings can be adjusted to display more lines.

  • Can't wait to close applications when multitasking bar on the start screen?

When within an application, I can easily drag another app in the multitasking left bar on the lower edge of the screen to close. However, I can't do the same when on the start screen. Any attempt to drag an application to the bottom gets just the application itself.

I see from the description of the problem, you have a problem with the closing an app in multitasking on the start screen bar.

I will surely you help with this. We are here to help and guide you in the right direction.

By design if you drag an app in multitasking on screen bar start it will open this App. You can't close an application by dragging it to the bottom of the screen on the start screen.

You can close an application by dragging in the bar of multitasking for the bottom of the screen, desktop and other applications.

  • Some applications Windows 8 will not be open and constantly return to the start screen

Some Windows 8 applications (calendar, Photos, Messenger, etc.) do not open and return to the start screen. I updated the computer, so the apps worked during this session.  However, after that I disconnected and re-connected to the laptop the next day, the same apps stopped working again.  This continues that occur on a regular basis.  How to solve definitively the problem?

Note: I noticed that others have this same problem, and I tried the troubleshooting suggestions (i.e., to download the troubleshooter of the modern user interface, cache cleanup, etc.), but none of these suggestions has definitely solved the problem.  I bought my new laptop two months ago and have been facing this problem since.  I want a permanent solution.
