How to replace the infected .dll file?

After a regular virus scan Avira AVP has detected an infected file cngaudit.dll.  I have the Toshiba system restore disks, but wasn't able to find the compressed version of this file.  I need the compressed cngaudit.dll so I can run a replacement of the command line (EXPAND path\my.dl_ path\my.dll)

For example, if my.dll is in the windows/system32 directory on the C: drive and my.dl_ were found in the E: drive i386 directory, then:

C:\windows\system32\EXPAND E:\i386\my.dl_ C:\windows\system32\my.dll

I Can has .dll?  Halp!

I suggest you try the methods mentioned below and check if it helps:

    Hello

    1. where exactly did you go to the back-up and you try to restore?

    2. you try to restore the backup after re-installation of the operating system?

This operation is not valid; When you reinstall the operating system, you will not be able to restore the registry backed up to the old operating system. And you can not do this without replacing the existing files.

Import the registry can only undo changes that you have made.

  • Lsass.exe - Unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because the oleaut32.dll file not found

My system XP pro/sp3 does not start normally, without danger or with the original sys disk. I get a message
Isass.exe - Unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because the oleaut32.dll file not found. reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
However, I can't in the operating system to do a re-install.
    Any suggestions?

If c:\windows\system32\oleaut32.dll is missing, you will see messages like this:

Lsass.exe - Unable to locate component
This application has failed to start because the OLEAUT32.dll file not found.  Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

If the missing file is the only problem, you might have to do a reinstall to fix.

There should be a copy of Oleaut32.dll in the c:\windows\system32\dllcache folder, so if you can get in the XP Recovery Console, you can just replace it - then you are going to have to start on something to do.

Once started in the XP Recovery Console, you must enter this command at the prompt:

    Copy c:\windows\system32\dllcache\oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system32

If the file is not in the dllcache folder (it should really be), depending on your installation, this command can work:

    Copy c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386\oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system32

I don't know what the Microsoft Support Engineer think that KB307545 or KB922371 will help you.  I think that the MSE is just throw a few things to try and some links.  You don't describe symptoms consistent with the need to use one of these methods.   I would say the MSE has never seen this problem before, made no attempt to reproduce the problem, and has no idea how to fix this.

If your CD does not start in the Recovery Console, or if you don't know what kind of CD do you have to do a CD of XP Recovery Console and boot on it (no media XP required).

    Here's how:

Boot into the Recovery Console Windows using an XP bootable installation CD.

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that might have come with the acquisition of the system store.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

When you install ImgBurn, DO NOT install the Ask toolbar.

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the prompt of commands or read on here XP Recovery Console:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/recovery_console_cmds.mspx?mfr=true

After replacing the file, remove the CD and type 'exit' to leave the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

    Hey Chellse

one of the worst things you can do for your computer is to use a registry cleaner

the best you can expect is that it does not damage

    Run the sfc/scannow command.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally madeprograms,Accessories, right-click guest, and then clickrun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or clickallow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

If the sfc finds issues it cannot repair consider to borrow a vista of microsoft dvd and do a repair installation upgrade

IM using a windows machine 7 and one day, he said that the DWM.exe could start not due the windowscodecs.dll file is missing.

I don't have to go back, any system restore points

I ran the/scannow sf in command prompt and it says that the file is corrupted.

I tried to put the machine in safe mode,

I tried troubleshooting and software update

and I tried to download external software to replace the file.

It also affects the Aero theme, so my background is just a black screen!

What else can I try that actually work?

Why we just know it is a virtual machine?  Well...

Have you looked on your system here to check that the file is actually missing (of course that mine has been replaced):

I downloaded a file called on my OneDrive:

    64bitcodecs.dll (64-bit version)

The link to my a drive is:

    https://onedrive.live.com/?ID=EC673DF6F8DFEE84%212368&CID=EC673DF6F8DFEE84

You must visit my OneDrive, upload this file to a place, you can find, rename it to WindowsCodecs.dll and then copy and paste in your c:\windows\system32 folder (assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive).

When you have done so, check again with Explorer that the file is really there (if it was missing before) and if everything looks good, reboot your system and see what things look like.

  • replaces the former site files with the files edited on the remote server?

How we replaced the redesign of my website with the old. The revised files are in a new folder on my desktop with a name other than the old files. For the server section to manage sites I click New to enter the same information as the info on my existing site or should I click on edit on the original server info. All information is the same for the location of the remote server, password, user name. The only thing different is the name of the folder where the new files are stored on my computer. Should I move the new files to the folder containing the old files. Help, please. More I read the more confused I became. Thank you. Karen

It does not matter what drive name or folder you used on your computer.

What is important is that the structure of the Local site corresponds with that on your remote server.

Access the Site > Manage Sites > changing the definition of the old site > tell DW where to find the new Site Local folder.  See screenshot.
