How to restore after deleting a partition in unallocated space on my hard drive?

HI, I have recently removed a partition of my hard drive on windows Vista Home Basic. I removed it because I needed to find the hard drive space on the main user profile.

I found, after following the instructions on how to remove the partition that the partition has been deleted, but the space was not available for use on the main user.

I couldn't find any information on how to restore the space unallocated on the C: drive, so if there is someone out there who can help me, I'd appreciate the help! : o).

Hi geddron1976,

Is "unallocated" space right next to the C: partition, that is to the right of the C: partition? If yes go to control panel and click the Administrative Tools icon. In the Administrative Tools window, click computer management. In the window of computer managgement, click on disk management and you will then see a view of your disks. Click right on your C: drive, and in the menu drop-down, select "Extend Volume".  A wizard will appear. In the 'select amount of space in MB' type the amount sdpace you want to extend the partition. If you want this then let the total in the State. Now, click Next, followed by the finished product. The c: drive should now be extended in your unallocated space.

If the C: partition is 'no' right next to the unallocated space, then you will not be able to extend the partition - not with the windows disk in any case management application. To do this you will need a third party application of partitioning, it is also a little more complex.

  • Should I delete catalogs old or empty space on the hard drive?

Somehow, I found myself with three catalogs in LR 4 - Catalog.lrcat, catalog - 2.lrcat and catalog - 3.lrcat.   My LR3 original catalogue was Catalog.lrcat.  When I upgraded to LR4, catalog - 2.lrcat was created, and this is a catalog that I use.  I don't know how the catalogue-3 was created, but all images are grayed out and have question marks on them.

I want to free up space on my hard drive by getting rid of - removal-(104MB) catalogue and catalogue-3 (103MB).  This is not recommended?  And exactly how can I do to remove a catalog?

  • Deleted files are still too much space on my hard drive, how to make their deleted permanently?

I deleted a large file containing about 60 gigs of my hard drive by sending to the trash and empty the collector, because the car was full.  All files were gone, my computer does not recognize free space and won't let me not defragment the hard drive or save any new data on the hard drive, saying that he is too full.  What should I do?

Either you have an application that saves you from yourself (Norton used to have what we call the "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" which has given a second chance to restore files) or if you have something else take place.

Did you restart after having emptied the Recycle Bin?

Have you run Disk Cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr > OK)

Assuming that the answers to the two questions above is Yes and you are still weak on the disk, download and run JDiskReport, space that will graphically show you what files are taking up space on your hard drive.  For more advice, post back with the identification of the culprits.

If you do not have enough space to install JDiskReport (about 2 MB), here are some ways to save space:

    • Turn off System Restore (right-click on desktop > properties > system restore > check the 'Disable the the system restore on all drives' > OK)
    • Disable Hibernation (Control Panel > Power Options > Hibernate > uncheck > OK)
    • Disable the Indexing Service (instructions here)

When you turn the system restore, make sure that only your system (usually C:\) partition is monitored and then click the settings button in the System Restore tab and adjust the amount of space used by restoring the system to 1 GB.

  • Lightroom - how to restore backed up files (not the Lightroom Catalog) from one external drive to another?

How to restore backed up files (not the lightroom catalog) from one external drive to another.

I've recently saved my photo files to one external drive to another. The backup (carbon copy clone) pointed out some files corrupt on the original drive.

I deleted these files and find good copies of Time Machine backups.

I want to get rid of the original external drive; use the recent backup as my main outside and then save it to a new disc.

I'm not sure how everything is point lightroom for backups so he knows look on the new drive instead of the old drive and all points of exclamation and question marks go away.

There are close to 60 000 images in several files with a 'parent folder."

My best guess is Lightroom Help - create and manage folders - locate missing files

Can I point to the folder of one of their parents, and all of the subfolders will return?

This is the process for recovering files in lightroom and there will be a problem with so many photos?

    OR for a Vista reinstall:

Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Deleted photos appear not to be freeing up hard drive space

I just deleted a ton of photos of Photos to free up space on my hard drive, but nothing seemed to change - why is - this?

    Thank you

    Hello mknj,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community Support from Apple. I know how it is important to keep your Mac organized and your free storage space, and I want to help him. Just to be sure, after you remove the photos in question, did you also remove them from the "Recently deleted" album in the Photos app? This is like the trash on your mac but specific photos, giving you an extra chance to save your photos that you not wanted to delete. Until that they are excluded from this album space on your Mac will remain full.

To find this Album open the Photos app and click 'Albums' tab on top and click to open it. To empty this album 'Delete All' at the top click or select the photos you want to delete and click Delete.

If you have already done so, try restarting your computer and again controlled storage. Let us know if you have any other problem, and the whole community will be there to help.

    Best regards.

  • How can I configure my H8-1240 to use a large secondary hard drive

I installed a Western Digital 3TO (WD30EZRX) hard drive as a secondary drive.  My bios recognizes the drive as being 3 TB.  I used the Windows 7 computer management tool to manage and format the drive, but it won't allow me to use 2 TB of the car and leaves 746,52 GB unallocated.  How to access unallocated space?

The drive is functional, but I want to access all of the available space.  I tried to "Extend Volume", but this option is grayed out in the menu.  I searched the forum, HP, Google, Gigabyte and Western Digital to the site but have not found the answer.

    Computer: H8-1240

Motherboard: M3970BM (printed on the card), seems to be made by Gigabyte

    BIOS: An2_705.rom v7.05

On my system (see above), I found my answer.

I had to just go into my disk management and delete all partitions of my 3 TB drive.  Once all the unallocated space, I could then right click on the drive and choose "convert to GPT disk.  It is!  Now my secondary drive shows 2794,39 GB free.  Nice.

  • cannot expand the c partition in unallocated space

I have a HP Pavilion dv5224nr laptop running Windows XP.  I've been low on disk space, so I came on this forum to find out how to remove the recovery partition, since I have the recovery CD from HP.  Now that I deleted the partition through disk management, it only allows me to expand the C partition in unallocated space left by removing the partition D.  "Extend partition" is not an option in the menu when I right click.  I also tried going through the "diskpart" command prompt, select the volume and him asking to "extend".  I received a message that it was unable to extend the volume.  How can I recover the 12 GB of space on my C drive?  Thank you.

I downloaded a free utility called Easeus Partition Master and it worked very well for resizing my partition C.  I also used explores the function to watch the 1 gig unknown partition and it wasn't empty, so I left it alone.  Thanks for your help!
