Can I play a video file of .asx with WMP? or if not, how to play with this extension .asx files?

When I try to play the file, WMP shows error then update says "video codec".

How then can I get this update for the video codec?

    Thank you, Michael Phelps 907

    Hi Mike,.

an .asx file is not a media file. It is a file that contains a pointer to a content online. So if you are unable to read a .asx file and are able to play other files using Windows Media Player so the best thing is to open the .asx, a Notepad file. When you open the .asx using Notepad, you will see a link that starts by http: and so on. Please copy this link and go to Windows Media Player. On the Windows Media Player window, press the Alt key on the keyboard and click file and Open url. Paste the link and check if Windows Media Player is able to open the link. If she opens the link this is a problem with the formatting of the .asx file and if it does not open the link then it is a problem with the server online of the .asx file. It could be that it is deleted from the server.

Hope this information helps. Keep us informed on the status of the issue.

  • AVI video files play sound but no video in Windows Media Player 7

My video files avi play sound but no video in Windows Media Player 7. Video files avi are since 2002 and has played very well until I'm a new PC with Windows 7 so I know that the files are not corrupt. All my other files and videos play fine in Media Player. I checked online and seen the posts in other forums on the codecs being the problem. Does anyone know how to fix this? Based on the other forums I found it seems that it is not uncommon that a problem with Win7.

Also, is it possible to convert audio and video files in different formats with Media Player? Or do I need any other software to do this?

It is not that there is a problem in Windows 7, it is more likely that you don't have just the installed CODEC the video file is saved with.  You will need to find a source, download and install any CODEC no MS yourself. You can use GSpot to identify CODECs used in AVI files. An alternative to downloading of many individual CODECs is to install FFDSHOW instead. Some media players like VLC and Media Player Classic also have internal CODECS and support for a wide variety of video and audio file types.

  • How do adjust you picture in Windows Media Player 11 slide show duration?

Original title: question of Windows Media Player 11

How do adjust you picture in Windows Media Player 11 slide show duration? Thanks in advance

FWIW... If you view your slide show with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer...
There is a way to adjust the display time of photo.

The following method will adjust the slideshow 'time by image '.
for Windows XP - Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Download and install free Windows XP PowerToy "TweakUI".

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Windows XP downloads
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/downloads/Windows-XP
(Search for TweakUI featured downloads tab)

When you have downloaded and installed TweakUI... open and
in the left pane. Expand the Explorer (left click the +) and select (highlight)
    Slide show.

Change the number to all what you need... then on the left, click apply / OK.
    For example... 5000 = 5 seconds.

  • Sound with no video in Windows Media Player or any other software I've tried.

I have no video when I play all the files on my computer no matter what program I use. I updated my driver for video card, re-installed the software. Verified that both we are up-to-date. The files are files simple .wmv and .mpg. They have worked in the past but now when I pull it up its just audio. The box of the video Viewer will be resized according to the picture, but there is no picture. I am a computer technician, and which left me speechless. Can someone help me or point me in the right direction please!

Looks like you have corrupted codecs on your computer. You may need to reinstall or re-register the codecs so Windows to recognize them again. Here is a longer version of this explanation on what to do if you have the sound but no video in Windows Media Player.
