just hooked up to my desktop to my TV and all is stretched out and very small, how to set the screen to fit my tv

Go to start / Control Panel / customization / display properties and try to reset the resolution.  Also check the box extend the desktop to this monitor if not checked.  If it does not, select the list all Modes and try another method to see if that solves the problem (again once you may need to adjust the resolution to ensure that)...
