  Using Windows Movie Maker or Windows Live Movie Maker?

  I assume you mean Windows Live Movie Maker because you use Windows 7.

  Follow these steps to add transitions or effects in Windows Live Movie Maker:

  a. open Windows Live Movie Maker.
  b. click the photo or video you want to add a transition between and then click the activities tab.
  c. under Transitions group, click transition.

  I suggest you view the history in Windows Update:

  http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/see-which-Windows-updates-are-installed

  Those listed as recommended is technically optional.

  Before you delete updates the computer, I suggest you try the steps from the following link to improve performance and check if that helps:
