  I tested on my end, and it seems that the issue is ongoing because of Air Version 3.8 was last updated. If restore you the version of Air to 3.7 this problem would be fixed.

  Default LR stores all changes in the catalog file, not in the pictures. So if you have a backup of your original catalog you will need to copy on the newly rebuilt system and open it in LR.   If I read this correctly, you have a portable computer that do not have an operating system on it.  You try to install Vista and get the error.
  You've restarted the Vista installation?  So then you get the same error? If you have tried to install more than once and continue to receive this error, check that the laptop is capable of Vista?  You may need to check with the manufacturer of the laptop to see if it is able to support Vista.   No need to just remove the hard disk from the dead computer and if the drive is still functional:

  (1) copy the data files, you can keep.

  You don't want to think in terms of migration when it comes to Adobe software.  You must install using installation files.  There is no need to have installed CS5 unless you plan to use it.  There is no way to upgrade of CS5 at CC, there is a reduced plan should soon be interrupted.  You get the first annual subscription for almost half of the normal price.
