Windows Live Mail does not allow scripts and other aspects of dynamic HTML.  If you have a message from OE or Windows Mail (Vista) that has these capabilities so you can send this message as a file as an attachment in a message eml and which will then open in OE or WinMail on the recipient machine.  Or you can rename it to eml to mht and who will then open in Internet Explorer on the recipient end.  But impossible to use WLM to compose such a message, as these features were eliminated in it.

There are other options to overcome these limitations in Windows Live Mail, so that users can continue to be creative in their e-mail.  Seewww.oehelp.com/OEnWin7.aspx for some of them.

  • How to transfer outlook express to Windows Live Mail?

I'm on a quest to transfer e-mails, in the form of a .pst file in my Windows Live email. I have been informed that Outlook Express can import my .pst emails and export them to Windows Live. Now, I'm trying to find a place to get Outlook Express 6. I have a laptop running Windows XP, but it has Outlook no Outlook Express. Can you provide solutions to my problem of conversion?

Outlook Express is a part of XP. Control Panel | Add/Remove programs. Add/Remove Windows components.

It should appear in the start menu. All programs. If this isn't the case, create a shortcut.

Right click on the desktop | New | Shortcut. Go to the * c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe *. Click next | Click Finish.  It will be a new shortcut on the desktop.

  • I am new to Windows 7 after using Windows XP for years. How to save an email from Windows Live Mail to an existing folder with content in my documents?

When I "Save as file" in the email and then select/open the file, I want to put it in the Documents, rather than keep the email name an existing document in the folder is highlighted and I get a message asking if I want to replace it. I don't want to replace anything, simply to add a copy of an e-mail to the existing content in the file. What I am doing wrong?

I can't reproduce this behavior.  If you save just under the ribs (without changing the file) it records correctly?

  • How can I move all the folders in Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail?

Bought a new computer with Windows Home, how can I move the folders of Outlook Express in Windows XP SP3 in Windows Live Mail? Thanks for your help.

Transfer of data from Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail:

    For Messages:

Copy the * ENTIRE * OE message store folder to a flash drive. (Folders.dbx must be included). Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail. Open WLMail and: file | Import | Messages | Microsoft Outlook Express 6, and the point where it was saved.

    Location of OE message store:

In OE: Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

    For addresses:

Open the address book in OE and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Copy it to a flash drive. Place it on the desktop or another location on the computer using WLMail.

Open the Contacts list in WLMail, (go |) Contacts in the Menu bar) and the file | Import | Address book (wab) Windows and the point where you saved it.

Note: If you use a CD or a DVD instead of a flash drive, after placing on the new machine you must remove the read-only attribute in the properties before you import.

In OE: Tools | Accounts, select the account and export it to the desktop. This will be an .iaf file. Copy it to the new computer and WLMail desktop: tools | Accounts and import the settings from the location you saved the.

  • How to make a backup of Windows Live mail

I need to reformat my pc to Win 7 64 bit. I need to backup my emails in Windows Live Mail. I can't use the automatic backup program because I have too many emails and I never got to work. (Quick save)?  I need the location of the directory of email and instructions on how to transfer them to an external support. Then, I need instructions on how to re-import them in own WLM program after reformatting. Thanks in advance.

Go to the folder where all "libraries" are and make sure you are showing all records - there should be the my documents, Favorites, etc., but it must be marked "appdata".  From there, go to "local", "Microsoft", "Windows Live Mail" and there are all the accounts and records of storage of Windows live mail - you can drag and drop them to a flash drive, DVD, CD, or other external media you have.

No 'extra' required backup program!  It's almost the same as the old path of Outlook Express, you have just to make sure that the "AppData" folder is visible, but it should be easy to display.
